Residents to vote on “In God We Trust”

On August 24th, residents of Kissimmee, Florida will have a chance to vote to make the city motto: “In God We Trust.” Kissimmee Mayor Jim Swan told News 13′s Stephanie Coueignoux, “This is a Christian community, and we all have strong Christian beliefs in this community.” It is unbelievable that there are no non-Christians in Kissimmee, Florida–and untrue. According to Sperling’s, only 40% of the population in the city affiliates with a religion at all. And of that minority, there are a smattering of Jews and even fewer who practice Eastern religions. The majority of the religious are Christian. But what of the large majority who are not religious at all?

  1. Patti says:

I think it is about time Christians stood up for their beliefs. For too long, we have remained silent and let things go, such as Madelyn Murray O’Hare getting prayer taken out of schools. And our government, not allowing judges to have anything religious in the courtrooms. I am sick of political correctness – lets not offend anyone about anything – well, I am a white native born American and I am offended that my rights are being taken away with this admdinistration. This administration is taking us down the garden path as quickly as they can. Hang in there Christians of Kissimmee. We are with you ! ! !

    • M WALDEN says:

RIGHT ON, PATTI!! I JUST WENT OUT AND HAD A STAMP MADE WITH ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’. I FOUND OUT THEY TOOK DOWN THE SIGNS THAT DISPLAYED THIS IN OUR LOCAL POST OFFICE, BUT THEY WILL SEE IT ON ALL OF MY MAILINGS. WE HAVE BEEN THE SILENT MAJORITY FOR TOO LONG! I AM OFFENDED ALSO BY MY RIGHTS NOT BEING RESPECTED. WHETHER THE POLITICAL CORRECT NUTS LIKE IT OR NOT, WE ARE A CHRISTIAN NATION(IN SPITE OF WHAT OBAMA SAYS TOO!!!)

      • Dan Howell says:

I agree with you guys completely I am proud to live in a Christian country and it really p=== me off when people try to change that. if they do not like this country the way it is they need to go home or just get out of this Christian country. and win it comes to this I do not believe we need to be turning the other cheek. it is time to take a stay for our Christian heritage and our Christian right.

        • Walther Freyberg says:

This is getting really ridiculous, the Motto of in God WeTrust has been the motto since inception and has been good for this Christian nation. Its time to maintain and restore all Christian symbols, school prayersand respect for the religion this nation was founded on. We do not dictate to others in their faith.

          • Doug says:

            You wrote:

Did you also flunk math & English classes?. Because if you attended History class, you would know better then this.!

          • Joe says:

Doug is partly right, and partly wrong. The motto “In God We Trust” began showing up on coins around 1862, but was not instituted as the national motto until 1956, quite a few years after the “Inception,” presumably 1776. However, as early as 1814, nearly the identical phrase was used in what would become the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” That song was written by Francis Scott Key as a response to the dire threat of the War of 1812, and it clearly reflected the thinking of the founding generation, as this was only 40 years after the founding. Therefore, taken as a percentage of time elapsed, it really has been around since the “Inception,” i.e., the founding, not the movie. :)

        • Mathilde says:

I really feel the same way and sad that we as christians let it happen.

        • dmp says : says:

ALL PATRIOTIC AND GOD LOVING CITIZENS :

OUR RELIGIOUS RIGHTS HAD BEEN TRUMPPLED BY FEW ATHEIST WHO ARE TRYING TO DESTROY OUR GOD-CREATED COUNTRY. THE ACLU IS ONE OF THE FEW ANTI-RELIGIOUS ORGANIATION WORKING TO CHANGE AMERICA TO BE A GODLESS COUNTRY.

REMEMBER THAT OBAMA CANCELLED THE YEARLY CELEBRATION OF ” DAY OF PRAYER “? AND INSTEAD CELEBRATED A “MUSLIM PRAYER” HELD IN THE WHITE HOUSE? WE HAVE TO WATCH CLOSELY WHAT THIS OBAMATICS ARE DOING.. THEY ARE TRYING TO CHANGE AMERICA INTO A MUSLIM NATION. THEY ALLOW THE BUILDING OF THE MUSLIM MOSQUE IN NEW YORK? WE MUST STOP THIS WITH OUR ” BLOOD” IF POSSIBLE. THIS IS OUR OWN COUNTRY. THE ILLEGALS DON’T CARE IF WE LOSE OUR COUNTRY TO COMMUNISTS AND MUSLIMS.. WHY CAN WE NOT PRAY IN PUBLIC? IN SCHOOL? WHY NOT….. WE WILL SHOW THE ATHEISTS AND ACLU THAT WE LOVE TO PRAY AND WE LOVE GOD

          • Susan says:

I agree completely! If we deny him he will deny is before the father.Everyone needs to stand up and fight for our Father who see’s all and looks down and cries. We need to beg him for his guidance and to protect us from out enemies, especially those trying to take God from us.

      • marylee says:

I also have a stamp that I put on all outgoing mail! even my bills – had new checks made up recently and had “God Bless America” on them – my way of saying –
“DON’T TREAD ON ME” – WHICH FLIES IN MY BACK YARD!!
We have to get out and vote and get these radicals out of the White House and all congress/senate seats.
I live close to Kissimmee, Fl in the winter months and this makes me so proud! God Bless Them.
        May we all keep strong!

      • Harry says:

Hey B.O. goes to church. so he must be a Christain, Right? Like maybe in appearance only.

    • JJ says:

Go for it ! We need people to stand up with God.

    • I am not religious, however our Country was founded on religious beliefs. It is also founded on our given rights to think differently that others in our Country. What happened to being tolerant of each other. If there is a show you don’t like you don’t watch it. A story you don’t like you don’t have to read it. Now all of a sudden people are taking away the rights of the majority on every issue, and imposing their thoughts into everything. Lets get back to freedom of speech and thought. Quit being so picky about every little thing that might bug you. Let freedom ring.

      • Brandon says:

Judith – only Christian nations can be tolerant. All other religions, including and especially atheism, allow no such tolerance.

      • dmp says : says:

        JUDITH :

PLEASE BE RELIGIOUS! BECAUSE GOD IS CLOSER TO YOU THAN WHEN YOU ARE NOT RELIGIOUS. THE ATHEISTS ARE CHANGING AMERICA BECAUSE WE ” THE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE “, ALLOW THEM TO DO IT TO US. WE ARE TOO COMPLACENT NOT TOLERANT.. WE ARE SLEEPING WHILE THESE ATHEISTS ARE SNICKING ON US.. WE CAN NOT CONTINUE TO IGNORE THE ” ROBBERS” WHILE THEY ARE STEALING OUR RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS. THE ACLU IS THE LEADING ENEMY WITHIN THAT DESTROYS OUR FREEDOMS…. WE MUST FIGHT TO PROTECT OUR GOD-LOVING COUNTRY, OR ELSE THE ENEMIES WILL IMPRISON US IN OUR OWN COUNTRY…

        • dolores Lawson says:

It’s a shame that the atheists have almost taken over in the U.S. and the ACLU, too. No prayers in school, no prayers at football or any kind of games – what has this country turned into? I think that all the terrible things that have been happening here on this earth:
Haiti, oil spill in Louisiana, murders, thefts, volcanoes coming to life and the lava flows that kills so many, I think that all of this is a pat on the our backs to shape up, honor God. God Bless the people who pray for our nation and for the Christian schools that pray before classes. And Obama? I dare not print how I feel about him – I’d probably end up in jail! even though it’s a free country to say what we want to say. (Not anymore!)
          Dolores Lawson

          • Adele says:

If we don’t stand up for God this country will not survive. We must bring back our Christian beliefs. Read the Constitution of America and what our forefathers wanted for this country, freedom in all areas of our lives.

    • karen krishak says:

Amen to that Chrisitans around America are standing with the Christians of Kissimmee FL. Stand for Jesus Christ it’s time to put a name on the God you love and serve and He will stand with you. There is a reward waiting for those who do not dny His Mighty Name! Shout it from the roof tops Jesus Christ is Lord not only in kissimee, but He is Lord of ALL that exists!

    • Charles Kho says:

Amen, I am Charles,17, from the Philippines, I agree with you all the way, I have recently been very vigilant with what is happening right now and I have a feeling God is coming again soon. America will fall when barack obama is president and I know it. God will judge America if the Christians do not take a stand and the nation does not repent. As a child I have always wanted to go to America because it was a Christian nation but look at whats happening now… partying, sex, abortion, unanatural marriages, and the list goes on…. Repent while there is still time

  2. Big Ugly says:

    Baseball bats and personal visits.

    • john says:

Baseball bats, personal visits, and cherry pie

  3. Saraba says:

Trusting in God has nothing to do with being Chistian, nor does it have anything to do with religion….it has to do with faith in a higher being than ourselves and trusting that higher being, commonly referred to as God by many religions and people of faith. You’ll even hear an agnostic, and on occassion…an atheist say “Thank God”. :^)

Sounds like a good motto to me……

    • Baptist Deacon says:

The very word “Christian” means “Christlike”, therefore to be a true Christian one has to have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord & Savior.
The worship of any other so-called god does NOT make one a Christian. The only way to the TRUE “God The Father” is through Jesus Christ
the SON OF GOD. I suggest you check this out with your BIBLE.

      • rev. lewis ellis matkin, jr. says:

Amen, Deacon. Too many gods are afoot in this land–a land originally founded on the Christian faith and the Holy Bible. The ONLY God is the God of the Holy Bible!!!!

        • marylee says:

you are so right! too many religions – they come to America and expect us to “bend” to their beliefs and heaven forbid if we “offend them”!!! We should be like Australia – you can come live there but you go by the Australian rules! Speak their langauge and abide by their rules or go home! You do not hear foreigners down there “you owe it to us”
A good example….the 13 story mosque they want to build by the hallowed ground of The Towers in NYC

      • Franka Nkadi says:

.ir, I am in total agreement with you that the only true God is Jesus Christ. This country was founded on Him. They may deny it but it true. USA is a Christian nation period. When you go to our nation capital and around the city, inscriptions of the word of God is all over the place. You and I know that the devil, the lier, the confusionist is very crafty. Now if he is going to say trusting in God has nothing to do with Christianity nor does it have anything to do with religion it does not surprise me. In the book of Matthew chapter 4 he said to Jesus if you are the son of God turn this stone into bread, in another chapter in the same bk, he was questioning Jesus asking Him if he was the son of God. How can you in one place ask him to change the stone into bread if he is the son of God and the other hand you are questioning him if he is the son of God. That shows you how crafty he is. That sounds good to me if they will agree to use the word in God we trus because it means a higher power. They may be confused about which God we trust .We know which God they are talking about and trusting. It is time for those that love and trsut God to stand up and fight and take back what rightfully belongs to them. The price has been paid victory is ours we are the lions not the prey. They prey should be afraid of the lion not the other way around.

    • Darrell says:

I think you bought your ticket, but you missed your train! Trusting God has everything to do with being a Christian! Trust in God is the main foundation of being a Christian!

    • Bill says:

I disagree with your opening comment about “trusting in God not having anything to do with being a christian”. Not trusting in God makes you an athiest. In the universe there MAY be plenty of temporarily superior beings (including angels); but, that doesn’t make them God or a god(s). Even a terrorist can trust in a god/God (with or without the 72 virgins that are not mentioned in my bible); but , that doesn’t make him a christian. Trusting in God makes you a believer and if you follow that belief you are a christian by default. That is one of the names they are called.

  4. Bob FAntelli says:

I’t's truly amazing how some people find fault in a paultry cost of professing what our founding fathers believed in ( GOD) , yet are so much for spending enormous sums in studying the habitts of turtles, .,rescuing cats, , and curing sick and disabled racoons and the like.

  5. ED FOUTS says:

THATS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE IN GOD WE TRUST, KISSIMMEE IS DOING THE RIGHT THING SHOULD PASS

  6. Walter says:

It is sad to me that when some mention of a “Christian Value” or issue comes up it is always a sign of biogotry and stupidity…..but when something comes up about the cult of Islam it fine and dandy. We can no longer hold public Christian Christian displays in many towns, yet the current White House administration hosted a White House celebration of the muslim holiday Ramadan and had some 3,000 muslim guests…….why isn’t that an issue? Sounds like a problem of separation of church and state there. Of course, the fact that dumbama is a closet muslim terrorist makes all the difference. The actual intent of the constitution was not to prevent religion, but to protect it. And most of the founding fathers were very religious individuals and there foresight and guidance is whad made this country strong. The adandonment of thes principles over the last 30 or so years through liberal efforts has brought America to this point today………godless atheism, liberal gay teachings in schools, promotion of false religions and cults, yet the banning of REAL Christian religions and so forth. Now, instead of “real” people, we can only appoint gays and radical atheists to positions of power such as the supreme court and so forth. Where are all the “normal” people who believe in good old fashioned values such as marriage, family, honesty, work without expecting “free” handouts and more? I cannot believe we are in the minority……..we have been silent too long. Time to stand up and make our voices heard and quit letting a minority of liberal fools govern our lives with their trash and leftist ideology. Time to take this country back and get it on the right track again. It may offend you, but “GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!” President Bush…….WE MISS YOU!!!!!!

    • MIKED says:

      you read my mind,i agree

    • QUANUCK says:

Walter, I fully agree with everything you say. Just recently we had a rally at the Rhode Island state house in honor of marriage nbetween a man and a woman. You wouldn’t believe the amiount of homosexuals that were bussed in from out of state to protest us. What people don’t understand is that all laws derive from one moral edict or another. When the immoralities of our Godless citizenry want freedoms to do as they please, it sure is offensive to the Christan community. It is time we start speaking out and remove from office those that do not carry our beliefs or moral values. God bless the United States of America.

      • Sandy Jones says:

Trying to vote people in who have Christian values is harder than you think. Remember our former President lied during his campaign. He stated he was a Christian but now we find out he is actually a Muslim. So how do we go about voting them out if the ones we vote in lie about their religious affiliations? I believe we will find more of them lying about their beliefs just to get voted in.

        • Frank says:

A fraudian slip? I only wish he was truly a former president

    • paul says:

AMEN, Walter you said it all. In GOD WE TRUST.Way to go.

    • MJ says:

No one could have said it better. Thank you.

    • Barbara says:

“Of course, the fact that dumbama is a closet muslim terrorist makes all the difference.”
Amen and amen. I have believed all along (before he got in) that he is a Muslim, and he was put in the White House to aid them in take us over.

“The actual intent of the constitution was not to prevent religion, but to protect it.”
True again, I’m amazed how many people do not know this.

  7. Walter says:

You said it, Walter. And very well, I might add. It’s time Christians take our Country back!

  8. When we forsake God we have become vulnerable to all the false gods that man can imagine and create in his mind and spirit, including the worship of himself because man is putting himself/herself above the creator of the entire universe. God says,”Honor me and I will honor you”, but in this passage he doesn’t say what happens if you don’t honor him. God and history have revealed the destruction and disasters that occur when man depletes himself from the wisdom and understanding given to us by God. There is no safe or successful path or journey that man can develop to rise to the height that God has for us. We must follow where he leads by first acknowledging his name and then our pledge to him for leadership in our nation.

Why America is going down hill at a fast pace. Eliminating GOD by so few. Those that oject to God please feel free to move to another country We were built on christianity and GOD.so just butt out

  10. Ed Cowman says:

Good for Kissimmee!!! It’s time we turned out on the street and sent back where ever they came from the godless inhabitants of the halls of power in Washington D.C. Pray that we take a huge step in that direction in November and in 2012 that we send the not-so-closet Muslim in the White House into the unemployment line where he belongs

  11. liz says:

In comments after the article, Donald wrote: This reminds me of the putting the ten commandments in the hallways in schools, was there any benefit? The answer is NO. YES!!! The Ten Commandments tells people NOT to kill, steal or covet. From recent crime waves in schools, apparently some students need to know that killing and stealing are wrong. YES, the Ten Commandments are necessary instruction in ALL public buildings.

Additionally, the ONLY WAY to become a CHRISTIAN is to accept Jesus Christ as your LORD and SAVIOUR!!! PERIOD!!! You can talk to God, bow to God, genuflect to God, quote God and generally be a nice person. HOWEVER, THE ONLY WAY TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN IS TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOUR!!! Any questions?

    IN GOD WE TRUST………….OUT LOUD!!!

  12. Deb says:

Unbelievable !! This country was founded on christianity. The origional colonist came and made a life in this new world to get away from the non-believers and have a way to the lord that was not stifilled by government. They perservered tremendous hardships to have a place to believe. And now of al things it has to be voted uopn. Give me a break, unheard of. Those non-believers can go to other countries and live and see how they like that. PEOPLE THIS IS AMERICA and DON”T FORGET IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Deb says:

IN GOD WE TRUST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SAY IT AGAIN AND AGAIN………………………… Don’t ever stop saying it…

    • charles ,n.c says:

OUR FOUNDING FATHERS DIDN’T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IN GOD WE TRUST AND THIS COUNTRY HAS STOOD FEAR LESS FOR OVER 200 YEARS, SO A VOTE FOR IN GOD WE TRUST IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF GOD BLESS AMERICA

  14. patricia says:

This is absolutely a no brainer. IN GOD WE TRUST is the only thing we can be sure of. HE is not going to lie to us.

  15. Guy says:

In God we trust is what our constitution is based on.
No one, but no one should have the audacity to change, ammend or any other word you choose to use, our constitution as read and that goes for all of our currency, and public buildings and the like that proudly display it.
If you don’t like it or it offends you, then get the @&%! out and go back to where you came from. We don’t want you.
Why should any American have to give up their beliefs for someone else? Adapt to our way of life or too bad.
Too many politicians are letting these people get away with this crap to ensure their own re election, and they are appointing liberal judges to go along with their adgendas.
Time to take OUR country back from these infodels.

  18. J W Morley says:

It might be a good idea if the politicians, liberals, atheists, etc forget “POLITICALLY CORRECT” and start doing more of what is “GODLY CORRECT”. If you are not sure what is Godly Correct, there is a great reference book (been around for years) called THE BIBLE. Should be required reading in Washington, DC

  19. Kalev says:

Our Republic was based on Judeo-Christian values to state it accurately. Many of our codes of law are based on the Law of Moses, i.e, the first five books of the Holy Scriptures (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy and Numbers). As a few stated to be a “Christian” is to believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and personal LORD and Savior, and He is the only way to the Father. Shalom Aleichem to all.

  20. Alvin Roy Langley Sr. says:

The American people who don’t vote for ” In God We Trust ” should leave this Great country and live with that man who sites in our White House. The whole world now he is not an American and should be arrested for treason and if Congress does nothing about it or the Senate then it is time for all America to wake up,Remember there IS ONLY 245 OF THEM AND OVER 300.000.000 MILLION OF US.God Bless America love it or leave it.In my heart I do believe Obama will wait until November and then declare Martial Law? Do you know what Martial Law is?? In Blacks Law that is used in every court in America it states that MARTIAL LAW is the law prevailing in in the land, when it is subject to Military Activities or when it is under Military rule arising out of a situation like war calamities, disasters, emergency etc. In Military rule Constitutional or fundamental rights of the citizens are temporarily withdrawn and Commanders or head of rule a quire Full DICTATORIAL powers…Wake up America that’s when Obama will remain in power, because all powers to remove him are lost. He will remain in power as long as the Money people want him in power. .As I said before it is Obama’s plan to turn the United States of America the GREATEST COUNTRY in the world into A third world country as he and the money people want it to be. Please go to Google ask where in our great state of are all of the United Nations Vehicles are parked today? I saw with my own eyes the 4,000 setting in Jacksonville Florida. And where are all of the United Nations Solders being hid till Obama makes his move on America. Also Google and see for your self all of the 40 empty prisons that built and left setting only with guards on duty but no prisoners yet .It will be for holding the Americans for when this day comes to America. All American people Be A Democrats or Republicans just remember “United We Stand and Divided We Fall In God We Trust” Remember what Ben Franklin said? There is no other place for us to put our trust. Keep with this motto & our nation will survive. God is a surity for the people of our once Christian nation. Continue in prayer seeking no other one, but Jesus Christ our Lord & Saviour.

  22. Kathi Marks says:

Only a fool says there is no God. Blessed is the nation whose god is the Lord. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will direct your path. I choose Life. Jesus said He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Where there is light, there can be no darkness. I refuse to live in darkness. Come on brethren….may our days be as bright as the noon day sun and may we all become a bone in the throat of our enemy. Christians are here to stay. Fear not!! We have not been given the spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. A kingdom divided against itself will not stand. Come on…..Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done…We know God is IN CONTROL regardless of what it looks like and we as Christians also know that He has given us dimenion over the work of His hands and has put ALL THINGS under our feet. So, let not your heart be troubled and do not be afraid. Jesus will give you peace, His peace, not as the world gives. UNITED WE STAND. IN GOD WE TRUST. NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST US IS GOING TO PROSPER. IF GOD BE FOR US, WHO CAN BE AGAINST US? Yea, dear brothers and sisters throughout the world…..Let us give God the Glory for His mercy and let us continue to walk in love. Pray for our leaders and each other. Edify each other and PRAISE THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR M IGHT. The joy of the Lord is our strength. We are blessed and highly favored.

  25. Derek Sloan says:

Friends, there is a battle to be fought for your mind – it has been the silence of Christians which has enabled much blood to be shed these last few hundred years. America, once a bastion of freedom and true Christianity has done much to overthrow her roots – yet many Christians remain – and I challenge you to stand strong for the Faith once delivered unto our Fathers. It is time to win new territory for our Leader, and to overthrow the strongholds of Darkness in the name of our Redeemer. It is very interesting at this time – for as once Christian nations have been overthrown by secularism and vice of the most degrading kind (Netherlands, Britain, Germany, to name a few) and America herself has become corrupted from within, yet it takes much to overcome this land founded as it is on the immutable principles of freedom ensconced in her Protestant worldview. Let them not lose their tone, but cry ever louder.

This country is being attacked at every angle from Spiritual wickedness in high places, as an elite dedicated to Luciferian principles pulls strings in the economy and the media to enslave our minds.

The economic disaster is nothing more than a wealth transfer from middle class – Christian America, to the uber-rich. Our selection of stimulus economic principles (both liberal, Keynesian, and destructive) allows the government, deficits, and taxation to grow at startling rates. Allowing the control of our money supply to be ceded to private bankers – has been a crucial mistake. Thomas Jefferson himself stated that this act would lead the banks “depriving people of their property until their children wake up homeless on the land their parents conquered”. Wake up my friends! Let us rouse to action, let us study the word!

  26. Wesley B Rose says:

I have mixed feelings about slogans and catchy phrases with God in them. I’m a Christian, disabled veteran and ordained minister. I have been studying God’s word for over 30 years and teach others about the gospel message. So, then to continue…. I was thinking one afternoon about the In God We Trust that honors our currency. I’m not so sure God would be pleased because the currency is used bu drug dealers, killers, atheists, and scores of other people groups. I don’t believe it gives God any glory in these circumstances. I agree that we should let the world know that we are a Christian nation and that we trust in God. In the beginning of Christianity this was done by evangelism and mission work. I also agree that we should stand up for ourselves. Unfortunately I don’t think there are very many that can do that effectively today. I personally believe that there are too many that know little about the Bible, salvation, and Christianity and those can do more harm than good. I’m not trying to down the Christians, on the contrary I am making an appeal to Christians. I am appealing to Christians that know more than traditions and denominational teachings. I am making an appeal to Christians who are not diluted with heretical teachings, who are not too lazy to read and study the Bible, and who know what they are talking about. I appeal to them to stand up, evangelize this country and help reclaim the moral foundation that has been under destructive attack for so many decades. Too many are disillusioned, mislead, and down right confused about being Christians and the impact we can have in this country. I agree, lets stand up, proclaim the truth, stand on our faith, and make a difference. That doesn’t mean when it is convenient, or easy, or in the right places with the right people. We should think and take for examples the apostles and others who proclaimed their faith regardless of the circumstance and the hostile threats that abounded. But we also have to be realistic and know that it won’t happen overnight and not at all if folks don’t do more than complain and wonder why things don’t change.
I think it is a positive step to add such a proclamation to the very public sign of a city. That, like the sayings on church marquees, lets all know what the heart of the town truly is. But if we proclaim these things only to other Christians what have we accomplished. If we stand by and watch as a elderly man is forced to take down his Christian flag, or US flag, then are we helping? if we are helping then who are we helping? In conclusion, we have to make sure that our efforts to help are actually doing just that. I as a Christian don’t want to expend thought, prayer, and energy on things that DO NOT bring honor and glory to God. Just think before you act, that’s all i want to get across. Our savior was betrayed by someone who THOUGHT he was doing God’s work. Saul (who became Paul) persecuted the heretic and blasphemous Christians and THOUGHT he was doing God’s work.

    • Wesley – the money is used by drug dealers however it does not represent drug dealers. In God We Trust rerpresents a nation that believes in God – Every freedom that we have comes from God – not government – government can only limit our rights. As a minister I’m sure you are aware of the consequences suffered by nations of the bible who failed to recognize God as their leader. I hope we never lose the freedom to acknowledge God as founder of this nation by posting it on our money which goes all over the world

    • Christain First says:

      B Rose,
With all due respect,….you are wrong on several levels.
Famous mis-quotes from the Bible,….”Money is the root of all evil”. This wrong and often misqouted notion may also be the root of your misunderstanding.
What the Bible, which is God’s word, says, is, “The Love of money is the root of all Evil”. Now there’s quite a difference between the two isn’t there.
Your time lines for what was happening in “the beginning of Christianity” are also way off.
I agree deeply with many of your other points. Doctrine, is a serious problem. Very few churches actually teach the whole Bible, and without little or no understanding of context. But, this too is in the Bible and what has been set in motion can only be stopped by the ONE who created it all.

  27. Karen Bracken says:

I think we should make this the motto of the entire state of Florida. Lets do it people!!

  28. Rev Bob says:

Given that the people who profess to be “Christians” constitute only some 20 percent of the population of the earth, I’m puzzled. Please show me the proof that the Creator is a Christian. If you supply something that purports to be truth, how does it reconcile the idea that only the Christians will be saved, and the other 80 percent of the Creator’s children will be consigned to hell and damnation. Kinda makes you wonder about this “loving God” thing, doesn’t it?

Closer to the point, please show me the instance of the use of the word “Christian”, or the word “Christianity”, or the word “Jesus”, in the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. The Founders were incredibly wise men, and they had extraordinary facility with the English language. If they had meant to create a Christian nation, you can rest assured that they would have mentioned it. They did not, so it is not. Rather, they created a secular Republic with a Constitution that guaranteed religious freedom. That means that, in the rules by which the federal government is allowed to function, there is freedom OF religion and freedom FROM religion, as the people wish. However, the people, and the States that they control, are free to approach religion in any manner that they wish. The people are sovereign.

Don’t assume that the word “theology” and the word “religion” are related in any meaningful way. The Creator is the subject of theology, and is only distantly related to religion. Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and other such constructs are philosophies. Roman Catholicism, Methodism, Mormonism, and other such constructs are religions. Philosophies are descriptions of ruminations on life. Religions are man-made sets of instructions on how to live according to one group’s interpretation of a philosophy.

There are some two thousand Christian “religions” that claim to be “the” unvarnished truth. If the U.S. were to become a Christian theocracy, which one of those would you propose to be in charge? What if the one selected to be in charge were not “yours”?

Be careful what you wish. It could come true. Remember the eradication of the Gnostics. Remember the Crusades. Remember the Inquisition. Remember the Islamic radicals. Remember all of the atrocities committed in the name of “religion”.

    • Bob, This nation was founded Christian/ Judeo nation. values and Another nation was founded on Muslimism, another founded on a belief in Budha. 80 percent of this nation is Christian and is the only nation in the world known as the Christian nation

  30. Jerry says:

Christians are “Forgiven Sinners”–that have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior, who paid the Price of full-filling the Law–which said
“The Wages of Sin–IS DEATH-!” Christ was the “Substitute Sin-Offering” as portrayed by the Pure-Lamb–that fully paid that Law in the
‘Old Testament’-! Even Noah offered this sacrifice–”in Faith”–that God would “Grant” a “Scape-Goat” suitable to forgive his Sins-!! By
acting “In Faith”–it shows you are forgiven by the Righteous Act of Christ to “Redeem each Sinner” who accepts his Gift of Redemption, &
accepts Jesus Christ as the “Son of God”, with “Full Power to Wipe Away your Sins–by His Bloody Sacrifice-!” Thus. the words–”In God
We Trust”-! Therefore, Jesus Christ becomes “The Way & The Gate–into Heaven”–there is No Other-!! Thanks to God, Kissimmee….

I agree with statements that we need to stand up as Christians. I think the time is soon coming when we may lose our lives for standing up for our faith. I think the end times are upon us and those who do not have a personal relationship with the Lord are so blinded by the current political maneuvers that there seems to be no other explanation for what’s going on and all the changes that are happening so fast. I am standing strong in my faith come what may! It is my prayer that I am wrong and that we can change the course of the future by voting this administration out of office next November.

    • FiscalDave says:

The fact is, during Christ’s time on earth, there were about 130 so-called deities being worshipped by one group or another, all pagan “gods” that could not respond to prayer or worship as the God of the Bible does. Among those was Allah. Do we really want to acknowledge the deity and sovereignty of a pagan god?

There is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, and that is Jesus Christ, despite what anyone chooses to believe. There has never been a corporeal presence that even comes close to matching Him in wisdom, love, and perfection. He is the God acknowledged by our founding fathers, regardless of what the public school textbooks spin. His historical existence has more proof than even the exuistence of reknown literarians like William Shakespeare. To deny the Christ of the Bible is a refusal to accept Truth in its entirety.

  36. Mrs. James Clemons says:

I have to say that agree with those who support the quote IN GOD WE TRUST, because it symbolizes among other things the faith of those who do Believe in God, and if we as a country don’t do that I shudder to think of the outcome of those who don’t believe in HIM. I.e. they will face that Eternal Judgement when they die. But it is our responsibility as Christians to share the Gospel as it is made known in His Word. As a country, and for the individual cities of each state, we need to acknowledge His Power, His Salvation, and His Grace to all who will come to Him and know that He is the Only One who has that Power to Create, to kill, and to bring to judgment the status of the soul. To say that a city can have on it’s insignia the words “In GOD WE TRUST” is to say for those who believe in HIM that we put our trust in You Lord Jesus. Yes I know there are other ‘religions’ and they think they are also worthy of recognition, but the only reality of their religions, is that they don’t have an empty tomb to prove the Ressurection is True. The Christian faith is the Only One that can make that true Claim and no others can do so. I pray that all who don’t know the Savior will come to Him. So the motto, or what ever you want to call it, should be allowed on all city emblems, in all the states of the U.S. and to be recognized as the Christian’s God above all else. Because He is the One who has given you breath to live, and a heart to beat to keep that blood moving in your body. If you don’t want to accept my words, read in the Old Testement in Ps. 139 and see what that passage has to say about you personally in so far as you are being created, and all that God knows about you. You may be shocked to learn the Truth of that passsage.

  37. Mocha says:

“In God We Trust” already is our motto. It already is deemed fit to put on every U.S. coin. Why does there need to be a vote? Just DO IT!

  38. Aloha! Considering that I have put in a bit of time in the last hour perusing through your articles, I thought I would shoot a quick note in your guestbook to say hello. constantly amazed at the high quality of writing that I can find on the web by punching the “I’m Feeling Lucky” option on Google! In the interest of efficiency, to Bonnie Wheeler and Christain (sp?) First:

    Bonnie Wheeler says:

“Bob, This nation was founded Christian/ Judeo nation. values and Another nation was founded on Muslimism, another founded on a belief in Budha. 80 percent of this nation is Christian and is the only nation in the world known as the Christian nation”

No, this nation was founded on the moral values of Nature’s God. It is irrelevant that other nations were founded on some other basis. There is no statistic that will substantiate your claim that 80 percent of the U.S. is Christian. It is possibly true, but there is no proof. No matter. It is irrelevant. The Founders did not form a Christian nation. The U.S. is known as a “Christian nation” only by Christians who believe their own propaganda.

    Christain First says:

“B,…you on the other hand, are not so smart as you might think.”

I assume that you think that you provided a response to my comments. You didn’t. You merely attempted to insult me in a crass and very un-Christian fashion. I wonder why you didn’t attempt a real response.

    —————————————–

By the way, folks, you might notice that I didn’t comment unfavorably on the subject of “In God We Trust” as the motto of Kissimmee. That is because I think that it is a good idea. But you might consider that there is nothing that is expressly Christian about it.

  41. Rick says:

If anybody truly took the time to research the history of this nation this sort of thing wouldn’t even be an issue today. Our nation in it’s fight for freedom in part was to be able to have the freedom of religion with no one making demands that you had to honor just one religion. It’s your freedom of choice to honor the faith of your own God.
Every faith consist of their own views of and how they choose what and who their God is as it should be so the reference to God shouldn’t matter in anybody’s religion.
Can’t these liberals see that when you remove any God from society you promote less and less respect from our younger generation of children today
. As a child we had others of different faith and all that was ever said in school was that in prayer that they should pray in the manner of their faith. I’m sick of government meddling in places that are of no concern of them.

  42. Eleanor D. Pryor says:

I read in a little booklet the other day, quote “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to an all-knowing GOD” unquote. How anyone feels he exists without the help of our Creator amazes me. Florida’s motto has always been IN GOD WE TRUST and it should be the motto for America not just Florida.
I can only pray for those who are doing all they can to destroy America and I believe those who want to do away with GOD being printed on things that are most precious to the majorilty of Americans are going to be very sorry one of these days in the not TOO DISTANT FUTURE

  43. James R. says:

I would certainly vote for “In God We Trust”. So far as believing in God, Jesus said, you believe in God, Believe also in me. We must accept Jesus as our savior but should not fool ourselves into thinking that He does it all from that point, for life is a series of test and we must learn to not resist the Holy spirit, In essense we are saying, I am turning from my way to your way for ever and am burning my bridges behind me. The same as nailing all my worldly cares and desires to the cross and beginning again as a new tree, and offering my body, mind and soul a living sacrifice. This is a reasonable service. And when asked if you have anything to say, speak loudly, Jesus I’m coming home before the blade falls, Because God is not sparing us from what man will do to us but we will be spared from what God will do to man. The silence is for the shortening of the days. We are currently in the beginning of the falling away period. llThess 2:1-12, when we see him standing in the Holy place as god we can look up for our redemtion draws nigh. Both these incidents, (first and second Tessalonians) are the same, not separate.

Sperling is just wrong on his numbers by aabout 45% about 90% of the people hold some form of religion and 3% are athiest and 7% are agnostic. So most people believe in God in some manner

  47. The more people like the late Madlyn Murray O’Hair try to rob us of our belief in God, the more we should assert ourselves and not let them take away our mottos with In God we trust. Next, they’ll take away our freedom shrines, our right to sing patriotic songs, even our right to say the Pledge of Allegiance. They already took the 10 Commandments out of courthouses and schools (yet left up posters of the Revs. MLK and Jesse Jackson on school halls (in the name of some social justice clause, none having to do with God.). In God We Trust includes those who are Chritian and Jewish. It’s not like the Floridians are asking for a motto that says In Jesus We Trust.

  48. sherry clark says:

  49. Jerri Jeffres says:

If one doesn’t trust in God and obey His word, he has no hope of heaven. How can one go through trials and heartaches in life without Him? The main problem in the United States of America today is: we have left God out of our lives and think all is fun and games for our lives. God has to e FIRST.

  50. W A Pardue-Polk says:

I am encouraged to read thru these comments that Christians ae beginning to realize and stand up for their rights and beliefs. Whatever happened to majority rules? Are there truly more non believers than belivers? God is in total control of everything that happens in this world and every person in it. It is our Christian American Patriotic duty to stand up for our beliived country and all our rights from the past , now(even tho they seem to be shrinking). EWe canot believe most of the media and lots of so called preachers and different non political and political organizations. All we can believe inin the Lord God who made us. We didn’t just pop into existance from a little bubble from nowhere to here. America need to get on our knees and pray daily for God to protect us and our country and our future. We MUST turn back to Him NOW.

    • Jay says:

      “Whatever happened to majority rule?”

The reason we have a constitution is to protect the rights of the majority from the tyranny of the majority. What if at some point in the future Muslims or non-believers outnumber Christians in the U.S? You sound like you would be just fine with our laws being based on their beliefs since they would be the majority.

  52. Don Evett says:

Yes. there are many people in this country who do not want any reference of “God” to appear on our currency, buildings, etc. It seems that the secular society of today is so liberal and that they feel no need to adhere to God’s laws, the Ten Commandments. The liberal media seems to go right along with the theme,” Seperation of Church and State”, and to them it means “God” stay out of the picture and our public lives.
There will come day when all that will change and God will step into t he picture for certain.

  54. Dr. Wayne says:

Whoever Rev. Bob is, does have his facts wrong. This nation was founded on Biblical principles and God’s Word.

Why argue with folks when they are right. God is no pleased with that. I don’t have prove my point, because the History of this
nation written on the pages of most documents, and books, as well as in the hearts and minds of Americans know the Truth.

We as a nation must trust in God or we will fail and oppression will be our lot. Also it very revelant that other nations do not worship the
same as we do, from a Christian standpoint. You must know waht you believe and why you believe it. The Bible is God’s Word, God
said, that settles it and I believe it.

Why be so obtuse in stating a lie. Sound like Obama talking. Moral values of Nature’s God. WHAT?????????????????

God is not alla !!!! God is Jehovah, El, Elohim, El Shaddiah, Addoniah, Kurios, Pater, God Is God.

    The Bible states in order to be a Christian and go to heaven, you must be born-again. Have you not read John 3 : 16. Romans 3:23;
    Romans 6 : 23; Romans 5 : 8 ; John 10 : 27 – 30 ; Romans 10 : 10 – 13 . And that is just a beginning.

Only Christain go to heaven !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLO ~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Rev. BOB, what Bible are you reading from ??????????????????

  55. LaVerne says:

Just look back at how our Heavenly Father protected us and gave us (a Christian nation) everything a country or people could want. We have beautiful homes, plentiful food, good health care (the best in the world) and as the Bible tells us, God will take care of His people as long as we keep our covenant with Him. When we no longer honor Him, do not believe in Him and blaspheme Him, he will withdraw his saving hand. No doubt about it, our nation is destroying itself these days and is now poised for the final destruction with our current leadership which we put in place. How could we be so blind as to fall for these people and to have as “our new Gods” the likes of Lindsay Lohan and her ilk. Can we redeem our selves? Yes, by changing our behavior, by turning back to God, by placing all our trust in Him. For those of you who cannot trust in God, try praying for faith. God will listen and you will not be sorry.

  56. L.J. says:

If this town cow tows to the politically correct crowd and angers God by taking Him off their motto, then they had better prepare for disaster! Enough is enough! Put God back where He belongs, the head of EVERY household; the Cornerstone of the United States Republic and let’s not to forget to elect Christians to government who WILL honor the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, not any muslim demonic god who will work their tails to the bone to put God BACK in his rightful places. Then, and ONLY then, will our country see a turn-around economically and prosperity will return. Why are we losing day by day and so many ignorant United States citizens just burying their foll heads in the sand hoping when they come up for air that things will be better. Heads up America, time to take back this nation by whatever means possible and PUT TERMS LIMITS ON SUPREME COURT JUDGES. That is one point of contention I have with the founding fathers when they wrote the divinely inspiring Constitution of our land. And yes, I completely understand WHY they did that. But, it appears that it will be business as usual and another communist will accompany Sotomayor on the Supreme Court- Kagan! She is pro-mulsim sharia law, anti-2dn amendment and favors curtailing our right to free speech among the myriad of other marxist ideologies she brings to the court. She IS NOT QUALIFIED NEVER HOLDING ANY FORM OF judicial post; she is just another Obama clone. Wise up and call ALL YOUR SENATORS OFFICES AND TELL THEM YOU WANT THEM TO VOTE NO TO KAGAN BEING SEATED! If she is seated, I sincerely believe that she will assist in bringing down the Republic along with her progressive commie allies on the court.

  57. Dennis says:

“In God we trust”, is not a phrase which denotes any one religion. It is a belief in God! The Supreme Court and others have made an erronious decision, which in reality establishes a belief that a belief in God and acknowledgement by citizens of this fact through government means that there is an establishment of religion, in other words intermingleing of church and state. Nothing could be further from the truth. However, let us not be confused by the truth! A belief in God, and an acknowlegement of this through government has been the history of this Nation and the Founding Fathers since before the Revolutionary War. Our present, Godless rulers, have declared war on the belief in God, and done so inorder to erace God from this Nation and from our true history. A belief in God does not establish a religion nor does it set one persons beliefs over anothers. If one does not believe in God, he is free to do so, there is no penalty for that set of values or lack thereof. The majority of citizens of this Country do believe in a Superior being, and our Nation was created based on that belief.

    Dr. Wayne:

    One more time:

Dr. Wayne wrote, “Whoever Rev. Bob is, does have his facts wrong. This nation was founded on Biblical principles and God’s Word.”

No, the Republic was not founded on Biblical principles. If by “God’s Word”, you mean the Christian Bible, no, the Republic was not founded on that particular version of God’s word. Read history. Read the Declaration of Independence. Read the U.S. Constitution.

Dr. Wayne wrote, “Why argue with folks when they are right. God is no pleased with that. I don’t have prove my point, because the History of this nation written on the pages of most documents, and books, as well as in the hearts and minds of Americans know the Truth.”

I don’t argue with folks when they are right. When they are wrong however, I do. Perhaps you don’t have to “prove” your point, but you should offer convincing evidence if you expect to be perceived as sincere and knowledgeable. But you are correct when you write that the history of the Republic is written in the pages of many documents. All one need do is to read. There is much to be learned, and unlearned.

Dr. Wayne wrote, “We as a nation must trust in God or we will fail and oppression will be our lot. I agree that we must trust in the Creator, which means that we must exhibit divine thinking in our actions. No, it is NOT relevant that other nations do not worship as we do, “from a Christian standpoint”. Other nations, and other people, do as they do because they too have free will. Yes, you must know what you believe and why, because your reason-to-be and your life are defined by your beliefs.

So, the Bible is “God’s word”, eh? How do you know that? Oh, I forgot. The Bible states it. Perhaps that settles it for you, but have you ever heard of the concept of circular logic, Dr. Wayne? In case you haven’t, it pertains to the idea that one can prove that a document is true by quoting from that document. The idea is an example of sublime nonsense. Also, just because Dr. Wayne believes a thing does not necessarily make it so. If you believe it, that is fine for you, but you have no right to demand that others believe as you do. Read the U.S. Constitution. If you do, you’ll find that a concept of freedom OF and FROM religion is included.

Dr. Wayne wrote, “Why be so obtuse in stating a lie. Sound like Obama talking. Moral values of Nature’s God. WHAT?????????????????”

First, I didn’t state a lie. Second, I was not obtuse. I was most direct. As for your comment about Obama talking, there is no need for insult. If you can’t address your point in civil fashion, it is better to remain silent. As for the moral values of Nature’s God, have you ever read the Declaration of Independence?

Dr. Wayne wrote, “God is not alla !!!! God is Jehovah, El, Elohim, El Shaddiah, Addoniah, Kurios, Pater, God Is God.”

Good Heavens, man! Do you read? There is only one God, but there are many words that connote God. Allah is one of those words. God is an English word. Allah is an Arabic word. Do you understand the concept of different languages? You quote some of those different words, yet you cannot bring yourself even to spell Allah correctly.

    Dr. Wayne wrote, “The Bible states in order to be a Christian and go to heaven, you must be born-again. Have you not read John 3 : 16. Romans 3:23; Romans 6 : 23; Romans 5 : 8 ; John 10 : 27 – 30 ; Romans 10 : 10 – 13 . And that is just a beginning.”

Yep, I have read all of those. I have read the Bible. I have read many books on philosophy. But, the fact that I have read a book does not prove its veracity. Did you ever consider that quoting from the Bible to a non-believer in the Bible is a useless exercise?

Dr Wayne wrote, “Only Christain go to heaven !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLO ~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

But, Dr. Wayne, what about the other 80 percent of the people of the world? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLO ~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Would a loving God consign 80 percent of its children to an eternity of hell and damnation? Sorry, Dr. Wayne. That doesn’t compute.

Dr. Wayne wrote, “Hey Rev. BOB, what Bible are you reading from ??????????????????”

Hey, Dr. Wayne, let me explain a novel concept about the world to you. The Bible is a Christian document. The vast majority of the people of the world do not read or follow it, and most couldn’t care less about it. To believe that Christianity is THE answer for everyone is arrogant in the extreme.

By the way, which of the more than 2,000 versions of the Bible do you read? Do you not recognize that the idea of VERSIONS of an inerrant document is powerfully peculiar? Did it ever occur to you that not every one of those sometimes very different versions can be correct? Did it ever occur to you that, perhaps, just perhaps, the version that you read might not be completely correct?

Did it ever occur to you that one must use a certain amount of common sense in reading the Bible? To start with, you might realize that you should look for the forest, not the trees. Don’t nit-pick the words. Look for the big picture. Who knows? If you do so, you might find the real message of Jesus, which is incredibly simple. It is: You must understand your relationship to the Creator (that is, you are a child of the Creator, equal to all other children). You must understand that you are responsible for your actions and will receive exactly what you deserve (as stated in Galatians 6:7). You must understand that brotherhood is the required mode of life.

If my comments have come across as somewhat harsh, I apologize. My objective is to attract your attention and convince you to ponder more deeply on what you believe. Your relationship with the Creator is a personal one. Only you can devise and develop that relationship. No one else need be involved. Speak sincerely through your thoughts and deeds. The Creator always listens. Pay attention to your life. The Creator’s answer is there. Read Galatians 6:7 again and again.

Take care, Dr. Wayne. I wish you well.

In 1832 a small structure was built in what is now known as Prospect Park, Pa., by a small group of Baptists. In 1861 The Pastor, the Rev. Mark R. Watkinson wrote to the Sec. of the U.S. Treasury Salmon P. Chase proposing that a motto giving recognitionto the Almighty God be placed on the coins of our country. This resulted in the words, ” In God We Trust” being used on our Currency. Sec. Chase one of the ablest of members in Pres. Abraham Lincolns Cabinet and regarded as the father of the modern American banking system was burdened with the problems of war financing when he received the Watkinson letter. But, he read it and promptly recognized the merit of the minister’s plea and dispatched a letter to James W. Pollock, Director of the U.S. Mint at Philadelphia. ” No nation can be strong except in the strength of God, or safeexcept in his defense. The trust of of our people in God should be declared on our national coins. You will cause a device to be prepared without delay with a motto expressing in the fewest and truest words possible this national recognition.” An act of Congress on April 22,1864 formally put the motto on coins. Not until 1957 id $1 silver certificates begin to carry the motto. under a bill signed by Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower. “In God We Trust” shall appear on all United States Currency and coins. The name of this Church , MY CHURCH, is The Prospect Hill Baptist Church, in Prospect Park Pa.

We are now and always have been a Christian Nation. Our elected official in Washington DC (the great Pretender) showed his disdain for the American people by suggesting that we are no longer a Christian Nation. I support Kissimee’s efforts to put this on their logo. If people don’t like it they are free to move, or not visit. I am not especially fond of the cities throughout America supporting gay days but it is their right. I just don’t go there. America will be a Christian Nation long after Obama is out of office.

  67. Double Ace says:

    Rev Bob,

The good Lord did not condemn the other 80% to hell. He gives them the same choice he gave the 20%. Accept me, believe that I sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross for your sins. Accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior and you will have a place in heaven. That doesn’t sound like he condemned anyone. He gave them a choice. He has given mankind a choice since the beginning of time. What a great God. Stop trying to make excuses for not believing.

I agree with all the above comments. The motto “In God We Trust” first appeared around 1868. Why not leave it alone. If that is taken off the money, then it should be replaced with a really choice epitaph–such as: “Obama is an Idiot”, or something far worse.
Remember, the worst thing you can do to the left at this time is ‘make fun of them.’

Christians need to stand for HIM…Ronald Haddad needs to be made an example of. He needs to go!!! Please help me make this happen. We cannot tolerate this.

  71. BigIron says:

There are many people who are religious but prefer NOT to associate with or declare any particular faith and indeed there may NOT BE any particular faith that fits their beliefs. Some who claim a particular faith do so for false reasons. All may practice their faith as long as it does not infringe upon the “rights” (Natural rights as understood by our Founders) of any other. Some practitioners of a faith, in their fervor, fail to realize or simply do not care that their actions infringe upon anothers “rights”; that thinking should be corrected.

For example: One may quietly pray pretty much anywhere and not necessarily silently but should NOT disturb those around them and they certainly may NOT use a bull-horn so that everyone around is forced to listen. That is a violation of the “rights” of others!

For example: If I choose to display the Ten Commandments on my property I may do so for if someone finds them offensives they have the option of NOT looking at them. If, however, they are placed in such a way that one is forced to look upon them then there may be debate and relocation may be required in order not to violate their rights.

I do not mind the trappings of other religions or find them unpleasant unless they offend in some way for which I have no control. Such as the clanging of the church-bell on Sunday mornings which in no longer needed as it was in the past since most of their “flock” have clocks and probably don’t even live close enough to hear it. Or a sign placed in such a way that I MUST look at it. Simply displaying some trapping of ones religion takes nothing from me; it does not FORCE their religion upon me.

“In GOD We TRUST!” … you betcha; I may even put it on my house. I’m probably a Deist (don’t really feel the need to classify myself) and I approve this message!

Many of you have heard the expression “If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything!”. Unfortunatly many of us that do care about our country and its founding principles, have been too apathetic, lethargic and distracted by our own self-interests. Guess what? We have fallen for many things. We have allowed ourselves to be run over, stolen from and railroaded. It is time to deal with career politicians that have put their self-interests like power and money ahead of the health of our nation. Unless a career politician can literally show proof of a good track record of voting for the national interest (not double-speak or smoke and mirrors or…..”Present”), they should be removed from office. IT IS TIME TO BECOME PASSIONATE ABOUT THE HEALTH OF OUR COUNTRY AND THE UN-HEALTY STATE OF LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL CONGRESS PEOPLE!! I am 63 and have never done anything more than vote every year. But that has obviously not been enough. It is time to get into the streets, peaceably. If we don’t, I’m afraid the power brokers and career politicians will not take us seriously. The time is late but we can still turn this great country, America, back to its founding principles.

  76. In God we Trust needs to be kept in our Goverment and Home. This has been our country and the Goverment is trying to take it away from us. We need to take back our country. Also I saw a video where “Obama SAID” he was born in Kenya (sp). He was not born on American soione is . No one is doing any thing about it. God Bless Our Country.

  77. DaveZx3 says:

There are a lot of great comments here. I agree with all comments that say we should get GOD back into our institutions, schools, government, finances, medicine, etc, etc. It was GOD’s protection which made America great, but as HE always said, “if you turn your back on me, I will turn my back on you”

The separation of Church and State principles deal with the “establishment of religion” , making it unconstutional to make laws pertaining to the establlishment of religion. But, make no mistake about it, nowhere in the Constitution is it illegal to establish, worship and honor our Creator.
We must always remember that GOD is not religion, and religion is not God. Religion is the methods and beliefs that man institutes himself in order to deal with GOD. But GOD would still exist without religion, and without man.

We are free to express our love for GOD, our Creator, at any time, and at any place, including public schools. It is freedom of expression and speech, harming no one. GOD is LOVE, so one who is offended by the expression and love of GOD, simply has sinister motovies, which should not have a place in the governance of this country. Stand up for GOD, worship and pray to GOD regularly, and HIS invluence will again be felt in our institutions as they have been throughout our history. This is why immigrants flock to America, because it is a great country, and it is a great country because GOD blesses it, plain and simply. Immigrants or native borns who do not believe that GOD is our blessing, have a hand in tearing the country down, and we have seen this happening for decades.

But it is time to reverse the trend. Not by electing smarter politicians, but by electing politicians who are willing to worship and love GOD themselves and ask for HIS guidance. But clearly never stepping over the line and advancing one religion over another, or establishing anything resembling an organized religion.

JUST REMEMBER THAT GOD IS NOT RELIGION!!!!!

Let’s analyze your position, Double Ace. (I apologize for the length of the following, folks, but I felt that I should reply to Double Ace’s comments.)

You claim that God offered the same choice to everyone in the world. But you also claim that God actually communicated the offer to a relatively small group of people in the Middle East, not to the whole world. Hmmmm. Why do you suppose that was? Oh yes, I remember now. Word-of-mouth advertising. That small group was supposed to spread the word to the rest of the world. Good plan. I think that we should examine how they fared at it.

Well, for the first several hundred years, the relatively small group was divided into two sub-groups: the Gnostics, and the “others”. As it worked out, the “others” killed all of the Gnostics that they could find. (Just to refresh your memory, the Gnostics included approximately half of the believers of “the Word”.) And, just to be safe, the “others” destroyed all of the Gnostic writings about Jesus. I guess that they wanted to make certain that “the Word” didn’t become corrupted. (Those silly Gnostics believed that Jesus taught personal responsibility, and, according to both their writings and the various versions of your Bible, they were correct; whereas the “others” believed that an organization of clerics was required to teach Jesus’ message.)

Oh wait! Again, I forgot some details. Jesus didn’t write his message down, and neither did his contemporaries. For the first 325 years, there was no single source of “the Word”. There were only hundreds of stories much like the Gospels of the current versions of the Bible. The first “Bible” wasn’t compiled until the Council at Nicea in 325, which was held at the orders of Constantine. At that conference, several hundred “correctores”, at the direction of Constantine, modified many concepts and added a number of pagan concepts (the trinity, the crucifixion, the resurrection, and such) to the collection so as to provide the mystery that would ensure that the people would be easy to control. (If your faith is so complex that you must go to a cleric to interpret it for you, then you, and your purse, are under the control of that cleric.) Also, Constantine reconstituted all of the various “churches” into a single organization that was designed to oversee the entire endeavor — the Roman Catholic Church. It included great perks and bennies for the clerics, plus some heavy-duty enforcers to ensure that everyone followed the party line. Naturally, “the Church” was under his control.

In the next few centuries, there followed many other charming “Christian” adventures. For instance, there were the Crusades, which caused untold death and suffering. As another instance, there was that wonderful prank, “The Inquisition”, which killed somewhere between four and eight million. By the way, the overwhelming majority of the victims were Christians, most of whom were tortured to death. A bit later, there was the widespread “Bible or bullet” choice that was used to convert many as the European monarchs plundered large areas of the world, all using the excuse of “saving” the populations. I guess it was all part of that word-of-mouth advertising.

Kinda makes you wonder whether Jesus would have approved of all of that, doesn’t it?

To get back to that question then, how did they fare? Well, in a mere 2,000 years, they have spread “the Word” to perhaps as many as 20 percent of the people in the world. It is clearly an underwhelming success story.

The situation doesn’t seem so good for your side, Double Ace. It seems that my position is the better founded one. The vast majority of the other 80 percent believes in the Supreme Being and follows their own theological philosophies, which are just as efficacious at salvation for them as Christianity is for you. It seems to me that you Christians would be well served to get your own house in order and allow other people to tend to theirs.

You were correct though when you stated that the Creator had given everyone the same choice, but just not in the way that you meant. There were many messengers (one of whom was Jesus) and many messages, each one tailored to the people at the place and time, but all containing the same essence (personal responsibility and brotherhood). That mankind is today suffering through many natural and man-made disasters constitutes a comment on mankind’s failure to heed the messages. As man sows, so shall he reap.

So, Double Ace, stop making excuses for believing what isn’t so. The fact is that Christianity is one of many theological philosophies, and each offers a path to salvation. Each individual must choose a path and make the decision to follow it. How the individual finds that path is a personal choice, and no one else need be involved.

By the way, I am an intensely spiritual individual, and I am totally committed to the theological philosophy that I follow. (However, it is not Christianity.) I work at propagating my philosophy, but I make no demands that anyone believe as I do. I have presented my philosophy to thousands of people. How many have accepted it? I have no idea. My task is to offer it as AN (not THE) explanation for life. The task of each of those to whom I offer it is to make his or her own decision. It’s called free will. I assume that you have heard of the concept.

Is it not the constitution itself that gives those that are in ( power ), the authority to rule, and not the other way around ?.
And does not it say it is God who made us equals?

I don’t know about anybody else, but they all confuse me with their agruments

If lots of people begin to live their live for the Lord, we will have millions and millons on votes on this vote In God We Trust. Thank all for standing up for the Lord and all of you will be rewarded for standing up for the Lord. We need to also pray for our nation and what the Idiots in the WH are trying to do to us, We might have to fight to get what needs to be done for the Lord, but I say we have to stick up for our Lord Jesus Christ, who would do the same for us
