Should Genesis be taken literally?

Creationists are often accused of believing that the whole Bible should be taken literally. This is not so! Rather, the key to a correct understanding of any part of the Bible is to ascertain the intention of the author of the portion or book under discussion. This is not as difficult as it may seem, as the Bible obviously contains:

This is not a "reply", but, would like a comment on commentaries of the entire bible. My friend has "BIBLE KNOWLEDGE COMMENTARY: AN EXPOSITION OF THE SCRIPTURES", by Walvoord and Zunk-wheaton, Ill., and has copied various exerpts from it, for me, but, unfortunately, I

cannot find it in any book store. Can you suggest where I might find it – or, suggest one, that is similiar to the afore mentioned.??? Thank you, George

GEORGE: I like what I read of your writing about Genesis. Down to the portion that I finished reading, I felt like you were right! I believe that the Bible is to be taken literally unless it's obvious, such as when Jesus said "I am the door." Of course he is not an actual door with hinges and doorknobs. He means that the only way to get to heaven and to God the Father is to come through Him, believing WHO He is and trusting that what He did makes salvation available to all who receive HIm. Jesus is the incarnate God who came to deliver us from sin and to give us a life worth living here and now, and to assure us of our home in heaven. Jesus also said in John 14:6, that He is the only way to heaven iand the way we get there is to come to Him in faith and trust.
