Christian Book Store’s Name Called “Offensive”

The owner of Kittanning’s only Christian book store said he was denied advertising on a restaurant menu because the name “Christian” is offensive. Reverend Don Toy, owner of the Christian Book and Gift Shop, appeared on last night’s Talk of the Town program on Family-Life TV, to describe a national movement against Christianity that has made its way into our community. “Last Wednesday, a salesman came to our store selling advertisements for a menu. The salesman said, ‘My company is printing a limited edition special menu for Garda’s Restaurant in Ford City.’ It got my attention. I know the owner well. I respect the place. ‘For the upcoming holiday season, we are going to print 5,000 of these menus and they will be made available to the clientele at the restaurant and provided with take-out orders.’ He was selling advertisement around this multiple page, attractive menu,” Toy describes.

Absolutely, make it clear to these morons who do not understand that it is not acceptable to discriminate against Christians. If it takes boycotting or lawsuits, so be it. They bend over backward not to offend any groups, yet it is somehow ok to offend Christians??? No, it is not and never will be. My next door neighbor is a Jewish Rabbi. During the holiday, he has a 3 ft. sign on his car roof saying"Happy Hanukka". Hey, I think it's great and I respect his right to celebrate his religeon. I put a nativty scene in my front yard for Christmas and his daughter said it was pretty. See. can't we just all get along, seriously!!!

It wasn't the restaurant, but the ad agency that is printing the ads. Read the article again. Toy reached out to the restaurant owner who was equally upset, but he is under contract with the agency.

It's the agency, Brecht-Pacific Publishing, Incorporated that should be boycotted.

  True, but it's hard for ordinary people who don't advertise to boycott an ad agency. Better to get a copy of the the ad and tell all the businesses on it that you are not patronizing them because they use that agency. Or maybe calling up the agency and asking for a list of their clients – if they'll give it – ad then contacting them. Advertising dollars have to generate a lot of income or the businesses will seek other means.

    Your suggestion is great Jarod, If I lived in that community I would do exactly that. Get a copy of those using the Publisher, then right a letter to the editor in local paper suggesting that others using this publisher be boycotted. That should wake somebody up.

  TW, You are wrong! The restaurant is paying for the menu and it (the owners) are the ones who determine what is and isn't acceptable as ads. If the owners say it is OK, the printing company has no say about it and if the owners want they can drop the printing agency and go with someone else.

Thank Congress for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment to this CRISIS by dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fiasco's! I called Grada's Restaurant and told them I was a Christian woman and believed that they needed to get a new advertising agency because

this boycott of Christians is going nation wide and would great ly affect their business. The young woman who answered my call politely

asked me to hold a minute and then put me on a monitoring system. She never returned to the phone. Go figure.

I am sure that if it was a muslim bookstore called nation of islam it would be perfectly acceptable . When are Christians going to refuse to do business with those that do not support Christianity ? This is no more than like boycotting what we don't want on TV. Let the TV stations know that you are boycotting the sponsors, and let the sponsors know you won't buy their product. So, let the restaurant and other businesses know that you will boycott them, and the printer, because of their discrimination against the word "Christian". If they all drop their order with the printer and let the rest of the community know what happened, the printer will learn a lesson in Free Speech!

I boycott businesses regularly because I DO NOT see any reference to Christ.

At a McDonald's drive-thru once, the attendant was looking off in the distance and quietly singing what sounded like a Muslim prayer, while I paid the bill. His little song was offensive to me.

I told him, "Jesus loves you" and I never went back to that McDonald's.

This is ridiculous. Brecht Pacific is not the problem. They cannot discriminate against ANY religion by law. So if they let Christianity be represented on the menu they would have no choice but to also allow Satanism to be represented. The law is ALL or NOTHING! Im sure they didnt mean to offend anybody but come on. They have to protect their company. If they allowed one and not the other they could be sued. So everyone that is upset about this please ask yourself…..How much MORE upset would you be if you had to look at Satanism being represented in your town? Walk a mile in their shoes before you judge.

This is from another thread, but since the Theory of Evolution promotes the idea of Survival of the Fittest, then WHY do we have to constantly cater to the lesser and weaker religions of Satanism and whatever else was mentioned. As a Christian, I would like to say, boycotting any company for not allowing itself to get tangled up in religious issues is absurd. I can only imagine the outcry from Christians had this been a Muslim ad or any other religion than Christianity. This type of reaction is surely what this publisher was trying to avoid. If you take one, you have to take them all. It is a legal issue folks. I am disheartened to see this radical response from Christians. Separation between church and state is essential, and this is an example of that.
