Nat'l Day of Prayer Proclamation Upheld in Colorado

A Denver federal court on Thursday upheld a Colorado proclamation recognizing the National Day of Prayer as a lawful expression of an individual’s right to practice religion.

Judge R. Michael Mullins dismissed a lawsuit asserting that Gov. Bill Ritter, a Democrat, violated the state constitution by issuing a state proclamation recognizing the National Day of Prayer, which is observed every year on the first Thursday of May.

Although I believe that religion is one of the main roots of evil and I am an atheist, I still repect others belief of it as long as they don't abuse it , force it on other or use it against others. I don't object to prayer day, prayers in schools, Gods name on money or buildings and whereever or however it has been used in the last century or two. I don't let it affect me and neither should anybody else. This country was somewhat founded on it and it never did any harm to anyone, so let it be. If you don't like it, keep it to yourself; it shouldn't be bothering anyone. Its a matter of tradition, keeping the custom, heritage, etc. If you don't like the way it has been accepted over the last couple hundred years, shutup or leave the country if you can't accept it.

You should be more concerned about the muslims praying in the closed streets of New York City!!!

You don't believe that religion should be forced on anyone? How about THOU SHALT NOT KILL, THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, just to name a few. You are forced to abide by those every single day or we the people will bring the full brunt of the law down upon your head. Without our Christian beliefs, there is no basis for law and everyone would be at the mercy of everyone else's whim. I prefer to have this "religion" forced on me and everyone else so America survives for future generations. Get real. Think right.

Adultery is not against the law . You can bear false witness all you like as long as it it not under oath. We even sanction killing is certain circumstances. Our laws are based on English common law, not the bible. Your christian beliefs are no different than any other religion.

The problems with governance are not political except in the sense that religion is excluded in the formulation of understanding and policy makin.

Problems are a reflection of culture. to change governance, attitudes must first change of which religion is the basis. So absolute separation of Church and State is a lie . The Apostle Paul explains in Ephesians Chapter 6.

The initial meaning of separation of Church and State was that the power of both should not reside within the same chair as in Henry VIII.

    Read it and weep.

I am a Republican, but I say "Hats off to this Democrat.! We are on the same side in this issue. Our country was based on Jewish/Christian principles. If you look at deeds prior to about 1820, they start out with "In the year of our Lord" . . . . That did NOT mean Mohamed. Most of the early wills began with something like, "I, John Doe, being of sound mind–thanks be to God for his mercies" It then continued with "and the personal goods which it has pleased God to bless me with, I give to the following. . . " Americans freely acknowledged that it was God who had provided for them.

If you google "Abraham Lincoln Proclamation" you will find that Congress had requested President Lincoln to proclaim a day of "fasting and prayer"–not just prayer– and he did indeed proclaim one on (I think it was May 3) 1863. Look it up, it is a beautiful document. No one objected. When did the government start stifleing the Christians in their acknowledgement of the LORD? It we do not stand up for our right to worship and thank him, we are going to lose them.
