The protagonist is a Presbyterian minister who loses his faith, runs from violent ghosts and falls for a sexy police detective investigating the murder of his former fiancee.

The author is a Presbyterian minister, too, and he has his own unusual story, though admittedly not as dramatic as the main character’s in his first book.

The Rev. Jonathan Weyer, 36, is a campus minister who is trying to break into writing with The Faithful, a Christian horror novel set in Columbus.

The book was published in October by a small Minneapolis publisher, Brio Press, and has sold about 1,500 copies. Brio prints mostly self-published works, but Weyer didn’t have to pay, he said.
