Don’t be deceived: Jesus Christ is not universally loved and adored. Your friends at the office, in the neighborhood, and in the classroom harbor many and varied objections to the Bible’s claims about the poor carpenter from Nazareth.

As you talk to them, ask them what they think of Jesus. In response, you might get one of these four objections. I’ll list and answer them briefly for you below. For more of these kinds of answers, get my book The Spiritual Top 50.

1. How do we know Jesus even existed?

Let’s not discount the New Testament itself as eyewitness proof of Jesus’ existence. It records the words of many different authors, written at different times in different places. Their testimony is found in the most well-preserved collection of documents of all antiquity, the New Testament.
