Brian “Head” Welch’s song, “Save Me From Myself,” from his 2008 same-titled heavy metal debut album, recounts the musician’s need for God to save him from his own personal demons.

Welch, who said he embraced Christ six years ago, takes the Edge Stage at Lifest at 10:30 p.m. Friday, followed by his testimony at 11:15 p.m.

Hard rock fans will likely recognize the longhaired, tattooed rocker who co-founded the alternative metal group Korn in the early 1990s. Yes, that Korn.

The Bakersfield, Calif., native and his Korn bandmates received six Grammy nominations, winning two, while selling about 40 million records worldwide.

But as Korn’s popularity grew, so did Welch’s addiction to crystal meth. Then in 2005, he abruptly left the group to rededicate his life to Christ and to raise his daughter, Jennea, now nearly 13, as a single father.
