In Losing Faith in Faith, Dan Barker – the preacher-turned-atheist – wrote this about the origin of sin:
“The very concept of sin comes from the Bible. Christianity offers to solve a problem of its own making! Would you be thankful to a person who cut you with a knife in order to sell you a bandage?”
This memorable citation has been posted on countless atheist websites ever since it first appeared in Barker’s controversial book.
Memorable and clever though it may be, there is one problem with this statement: It is not true.
