Bellevue Baptist Church

Church Bullied by Liberal Group to Shut Up or Else

Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AC) “is calling on the Internal Revenue Service to look into allegations that Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn., is violating restrictions for posting a link to a pro-family organization on its website.” What restrictions? The First Amendment does not prohibit churches from speaking out on any issue. The amendment is so clear that the people at AU almost never cite it:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Notice that the prohibition is directed at Congress, our nation’s national law-making body. It can’t establish a religion and it can’t prohibit the free exercise of religion. Here’s what Rob Boston, Communications Director with AU, had to say: “A church cannot link or direct people to an organization telling people how to vote. . . . All nonprofits, including churches, cannot endorse or oppose candidates. The IRS does warn nonprofits about linking to campaign-related websites.” To prohibit a church from linking to any site for any reason is a violation of the First Amendment. Notice that the First Amendment gives everybody, churches included, the right to speak about religion, write about religion, congregate about religion, and “petition the government for a redress of grievances,” the very thing this church is trying to do and Mr. Boston says it can’t do.

  1. Free speech for all! So long as you are a leftist, atheist, "filthy speech" advocate, homosexual, anti-American; you can say whatever you want. If we don't like it, then you are guilty of thought crime.

    -Capt Gene
    • when does thought have to be defended. when you cant think of what or where or when or why then there is no original thought just reconstituted government propaganda!

  2. Again only preconceived ideas are allowed.

  3. CHRISTIAN'S, CHURCH'S and CHRISTIAN ORG. needs to take these issue's before the SUPREME COURT The LIBERAL'S and ATHEIST'S have gone to far CHRISTIAN'S have as many right's as they do. The CONSTITUTION give the CHURCH right's that the GOV. is denying. The church has the right to support a political party just like any other ORG. does.

  5. Unless this church is trying to make itself into a national religion it isn't doing anything illegal in my mind. When will these dullards wake up and read the Constitution. Nowhere, absolutely nowhere in the Constitution does it say a word about the separation of church and state. It does say that the government can't establish a state religion. I am not seeing any church trying establish itself as a state religion with the exception of the muslims who are trying their best to change not only our laws but the establish their religion as a national religion. Our educational system has failed.

    -Violet
    • Not only have our schools failed and our churches but parents are too busy with their own lives to teach their children in their home what is the right way to live. Parents are afraid of their children and let them get by with doing wrong. They want to be "friends" with them. I see it in the schools with bullying and lack of discipline because they can't "touch the sweet little things" with a paddle. Biblical princples no longer exist — like "spare the rod and spoil the child". We the People need to get back in touch with God through His Word taught by ministers who are not afraid of teaching the truth.
Only God can turn this Nation around only if we are willing to learn and do His will. (Read 2 Chronicles 7:14)

    • Yes, and we must get a good strong Christian who is a patriotic constitutionalist who cannot be bought off by anyone or any institution or 'establishment'! Someone who is not your run of the mill politician. A truly honest and peaceful candidate who is in this for We The People and not for himself. RON PAUL is the only one who fits this and he is someone whom we can trust to rebuild the republic we should be, again. Anyone who tries to take over our laws and to invoke their 'religion' on our country, could be in a lot of trouble. Shariah rules are barbaric and if followed would allow what we consider crimes against women and children. This would place them behind bars.

  6. Freedom of religion, at least for Christians, is a thing of the past. It is still in force for atheists, muslims, hindus an all manner of liars, oppressors, murderers, scum, and degenerates, but not for those who hold to the truth. This just shows that satan doesn't waste his time attacking these false religions because he is smart enough to know that he already owns the deluded fools who follow them.

  7. So tell me why a Liberal politician can go to a black church and speak without harassment .Inadditon take whole congrigations to the polls.

    -s bryant
    • I have alway's wondered how that was allowed ,are the Black churches not a religious place or not ? If a white candidate was to go to a Methodist or a Baptist and telivise his speech they would have the ACLU ,the southern poverty law center and the NAACP screaming to raise hell it's self, but I have seen black and white candidates in black church's and telivised world wide and you don't hear one damn whimper why is that?????????????????

  9. I pose you a mystery: Why …… do Christians' tremble' under Godless threats? Why … do Christians NOT DEMAND THEIR 'choice/rights' – under (secular) law?.?? There are several, highly successful (public supported) law groups that will quickly represent these cases – if only asked? The ACLU knows many (most?) Christians are in name only; that's 'why' they enjoy their success rate. Truth is .. expose evil to light and darkness will flee!

  10. And tell us, too, why this site so consistently displays right-wing, anti-Obama messages? Because they're its sponsors?

    -Mary C.
    • @Mary
This particular article doesn't mention obama, left wing or right wing. This article is about The
Constitution and Bill of Rights for Religious Freedom. Is it causing you to sting? Must be
something there within you to see it in this light.

      -Guest
    • It appears to me you are a bit delusional Mary . I dont see any anti ovomit messages here . Although there probably should be in wake of the fact that ovomit is the most blatant opposer of anything that resembles the principles and the doctrines that this nation was founded upon!

      -dave
    • I am sure anyone of conscience is (was) anti-Hitler, anti-Mao, anti-Stalin (ad infinitum) AND anti-Satan. We believe in taking a stand against the proponents of injustice and evil. Where's the rub?

  11. "The separation of church and state" isn't in the Constitution.

Once again is the First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Do you see anything that remotely smacks of separation? Didn't think so! The Supreme Court has ruled on the side of God and country. Without 'divine providence' our country wouldn't exist.

Don't give in to these idiots. Speak loudly and often about the First Amendment. I do.

    -Wendy Tuch
    • The buzz word on the street is separation of church and state and hardly anyone knows what that really is. These morons need to be promoted to the idiot of the year club.

      -KnowTheTruthToday
    • To my knowledge the separation from church and state issues were not to keep religion out of govt. it was to keep govt from pushing themselves into church business, the way I see it the govt. has crossed this line many times. The pushing of homosexuality and muslims and all the other popular issues they cater to, is already infringing upon the rights of the majority of Americans. The next step is a China like church where they TELL you what to preach or teach or what books you can read, any of this nonsense sounding familiar??

  12. Come quickly, Lord Jesus, we need you!!!

    -Kammie
    • Kammie:

We are in the end days, as it says in bible in revelations that so in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah will be the end days of man. As everyone knows in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah immorality and depravity were rampant, immoral sex acts against children and amongst men and women with each other and many other acts of immorality and God destroyed the cities with fire from the skies. The end is coming soon. Not saying it is December 21 2012 but more civilizations than just the Mayans have predicted a drastic change coming upon that date. Most native Americans know this is coming and I am one. For myself I welcome it as this world is going to hell in a hand basket.

      • And in the meantime…
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by MY name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
        HOW?
II Peter 3:8… but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
Jer 17:5 Thus says the LORD," Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the LORD

        -maryallen
    • Why would Jesus need to come back? Has he stopped being omnipresent lately?

  13. These scum bags should have to pay all cost associated with these types of law suits. Then when they pay up run them out of the country.

This must be a super stupid outfit to think that anyone can be prohibited from posting links. The Church should sue for mental stress and be awarded enough to bankrupt these egg suckers.

    -KnowTheTruthToday
  14. The churches cannot demand that their congregations vote in any specific manner. They can advise their congregations via links to legitimate websites such as Planned Parenthood or various adoption agencies seeking to 'obsolete' abortion by easing the transition to adoption. Congress is forbidden from making laws that favour any peaceful faiths over any other peaceful faiths; what the mujadeen are ranting does not qualify as either true Islam or a legitimate peaceful faith. Choose your god(s) and compete in sports and constructive activities and honour all gods by constructive competition and co-operation, ban religious war.

This church has violated no rules. The Infernal Revenue Disservice should be dissolved.

  16. How long are we going to put up with the garbage of these so called groups attacking our churches and telling us what we can say and who we can say it to. I'm so tired of them trying to do away with our rights we have, my brothers at arms have fought for.

  18. Is the aclu going to stop the unions from ordering their members to vote for democrats too? Why can churches not advise their members to look at a site that is in line with the churches thinking. Jerimiah wright sure could condemn the USA with no body telling him to not do that. The double standard that the aclu and liberals set for us is ridiculous.

  19. The demons of the Satanic AU organization are screaming again Barry Lynn et, al. are Satan's servants the Lord will judge them in His time and they will pleadf and scream as Michael, Gabriel throw them into the lake of fire with Satan whom they serve with passion!

  20. I wonder what would happen if they told the muslims s to "shut up" about their "religion".

  21. Believers also have this responsibility…
I Tim 2:1-2 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

Paul wrote this when Nero in Rome was burning believers on a stake and feeding them to lions.

  22. The impasses and legal abuses portend to a coming dangerous time for America. Economic deterioration coupled with political/cultural polarization is building a certain momentum. People will only tolerate so much and then the top blows off the pot. We may not see another civil war, but much civil unrest and violence is coming. I would that it were not so!

    -Gordon
  23. There's no two ways about it. Christians are going to HAVE to start pushing back or the atheist scum will end up having their way where Christianity is completely outlawed. No more turning the other cheek to these lowlife agents of Satan.

    -Robert Wayne
  24. This is what the tea party is all about . Putting the constitution back to work for the people instead of twisting it to work against the people . The separation of church and state is nonexistent in the constitution but separation of the state and church is exemplified . All early politics was discussed in town meetng halls , which in most cases was the local church . Lets all go back home to the old meeting places .

    -buck
  25. The tea party is funded by the Koch brothers who are doing business illegally with Iran. They have you suckered. It's all about manipulating the gullible religious clowns so that the rich get richer.

Christian organizations bought the Prop 8 election in California to take away people's rights. They want to take away people's access to contraception so poor people are lumbered with babies that then end up on welfare.

    • This posting has to be a hoax, i can't beleive anybody could be that jaded and it would take a real hatred of God to be able to even think like that.

  26. One reason this particular church is a target may well be the fact that one of the greatest preachers of all time, Adrian Rogers was pastor there for many years. And although he went to be with the Lord a few years ago, he can still be heard/seen weekly on TBN. So even though he is no longer with us, millions still hear his messages that are straightforward, Biblical, unapologetic and unafraid. If you get TBN, watch him on Sundays and you'll see what I mean. His death was a great loss for us but made Heaven that much sweeter!

    -Tammie
  27. I have said time and time again. Anything the government gives you, they can take away, and that goes for the tax exempt status of churches. My advice to my Pastor was to cast off this yoke of bondage the government has around his neck. If the congregation is tithing simply because they get a tax deduction, they are tithing for the wrong reason. I will give my tithe to the Lord, tax deduction or not. If Pastors remove the bondage, they can begin to speak the entire truth from the pulpit. Things like Islam is of the devil, Progressives and Socialists and their agenda is destroying our nation, homosexuality is NOT an acceptable alternative lifestyle. How would the congregation react to the truth being preached from the pulpit? I don't know, but when I teach Discipleship training, they certainly hear it from me. It's time to realize that not all people will go to heaven. If a little thing like a tax exemption keeps them from coming to church and giving toward the Lords work, then it will be their choice and well, there is only one person we will all be accountable too in the end, and that's the Lord of creation. I suggest these Christians choose wisely.

  31. this provision in the tax code to revoke a churche's exempt status for speaking out to the congregation about a political canidate i beleive came from Truman in the fifties to help keep the people from knowing what the Democrats really stood fore since a large part of the voting block went to church they were able to fool the voter and of course the press was always liberal so with the church disabled and the media on their side the next target was hollywood, talk radio was the first casualty of the war on conservitism. Or should i say truth was first to go.

  32. The population of "bullies" seems to be growing faster since Obama has been in the White House !! Loud abusive language seems to be the "flavor" of the day also – Lies are being told so easily, Obama is very good at that also. Everything Obama has brought to the Whi te House is very negative – "left wing"??
Leave the CHURCHES ALONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are God's house's of prayer – keep the GOVERNMENT OUT OF THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How come Obama was a regular parishoner in Rev. Wright's church in Chicago and since he has b een in the White House – he "RARELY" attends – the right church isn't in Washington, huh???

  35. Churches should be allowed to comment and advocate for anything without restrictions. If they don't say vote for so and so — an individual candidate that is, then they should have those rights and cannot logically be restricted further. Suppose a church linked to a site recommending a balanced budget or non-violence, or anti-bullying, or pro-gay rights, or …..you get the point. All issues fall within the legitimate authority of a church's right to comment and advocate. But while we're at it, while we're talking about the IRS's unconstitutional use of the 501c restriction on anything — what about ACORN. You telling me they weren't advocates? How about labor unions? How about anything liberal, left-wing, anti-God and anti American. We must become militant against these liars and totalitarians. This is our nation and we're taking it back.
