GOP presidential hopeful Rick Perry stood by his wife’s remarks that he has been “brutalized” by his rivals and the Republican Party because of his Christian faith.

The Texas governor, appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America today, called his wife, Anita, “one of the finest women” as he defended remarks she made yesterday during a campaign appearance in South Carolina.

“I’ll stand by my wife,” Perry said. “My understanding is she said I’m the most conservative candidate in the race and ‘He’s a Christian.’ “
