While at the Hamptons Film Festival on Long Island, NY, actress Susan Sarandon talked about her 1995 film, Dead Man Walking. She said that she had sent a copy of the book that the film is based on to the Pope, however, the words she used to differentiate Pope John Paul II from the current Pope Benedict XVI have been deemed controversial.
“The last one…not this Nazi one we have now,” she reportedly said, according to Newsday. Rather than retract her statement, she just repeated it.
Now, she is coming under fire from critics, even though the audience did not respond immediately to her words.
