Italian study claims Turin Shroud is authentic

Just days before Christmas, a new study has emerged that suggests that one of Christianity’s most prized but mysterious relics – the Turin Shroud – is not a medieval forgery but could be the authentic burial robe of Christ.

Italian scientists have conducted a series of advanced experiments which, they claim, show that the marks on the shroud – purportedly left by the imprint of Christ’s body – could not possibly have been faked with technology that was available in the medieval period.

The research will be an early Christmas present for shroud believers, but is likely to be greeted with scepticism by those who doubt that the sepia-coloured, 14ft-long cloth dates from Christ’s crucifixion 2,000 years ago.

Sceptics have long claimed that the shroud is a medieval forgery, and radiocarbon testing conducted by laboratories in Oxford, Zurich and Arizona in 1988 appeared to back up the theory, suggesting that it dated from between 1260 and 1390.

  1. Man's propensity to create idols is boundless unless checked from above…

  2. I think it's an authentic piece of artwork commemorating the Roman execution of Yeshua ben Yusef of Nazareth in April, 28 or 29 AD, for sedition, interfering with financial institutions, and advocacy of protest against Roman rule. It was probably made by Leonardo da Vinci or one of his students. Whether it is anything more than top quality artistic talent – whether it is deic inspiration or just human tribute – cannot be ascertained until we develop the ability to view back into time. For now, we should celebrate our individual preference in Winter Solstice holiday and try to drop the war for a while…

    • That is exactly how I feel, time is short we can not afford not to use every method possible to bring all to salvation. I am praying that Jesus does not tarry any longer, this world is not our home

    • The ONLY hope we need is what God has given to us from His Word. Not manmade idols or things that distract from His Word. More and more people are turning away from learning what the Word of God teaches and turning to the social gospel, emotionalism — anything BUT learning and living what God teaches though His Word the Bible.
Roman 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world (human viewpoint), but be transformed by the renewing (renovation) of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Read and study the Bible and meet Jesus Christ face to face. God will provide all your needs…
BTW, you can be a Christian and have the most enjoyable life possible even through trials and tribulations.

      • The problem is, the Shroud ISN’T manmade. If it is, riddle me this: just HOW was it made?

      • Actually I see this as more of a tool to draw unbelievers in to the conversation not so much to confirm or strengthen weak believers. Some men see the devil in everything others see God in everything in the end we make our own choices.

You call this a man made idol without any proof. The scripture are correct but maybe not your personal assumptions of how they relate to this. Could the Lord show the wise as fools in the last days as the world eats crow and the scriptures come alive even through science. I don't know and leave it to God to decide how this all plays out.

  4. Of course, there will always be doubters and those who refuse to believe the Bible's truths, so why would they accept that this is the burial shroud of our Lord. We need to ignore those who choose to not believe, that's their right, but it's our right to choose to believe.

  5. I don’t think the Christ was in the tomb long enough to leave “imprints”, besides in a time when the Greeks and others were obsessed with sculpturing anyone who was anybody it’s no coincidence that a likeness of Jesus Christ was not created. The Lord warns us about idols and it’s not likely that he forgot about this shroud. Put the shroud to rest as an interesting artifact and keep your focus on the Lord and his teachings.

    • The imprints are said to have been made at the moment of Christ's resurrection. I'm not convinced of the shroud's authenticity ad His burial shroud, but it is an interesting artifact, given its apparent age. Let's jsut say I have an open mind to all possibilities.

  6. If you read the underlying story in the Vatican Insider, you'll see the scientists' findings don't actually prove "it's not a fake." They just can't say how it was faked, or when, or by whom. Given that the one-piece Shroud of Turin doesn't match the two-piece shroud described in the Gospels and attested in other 1st century tombs by archaeologists, the case for authenticity is — at best — "not proven."
