The families were lined up far back from the front door, and there was little concern about having leftover turkeys.
“In this economy,” Jim Calhoun said, “and it seems like I’ve been saying this three years in a row, the economy is not getting any better.”
Calhoun and his family brought plenty of help from UConn for his 13th holiday food drive. First at the Pope Park Recreation Center and later at St. Monica’s Episcopal Church, the Huskies passed out 1,000 turkeys and bags of fixings to needy families.
“I played here a bunch of times and I coached here,” said UConn center Andre Drummond, who played at Capital Prep. “So I know a lot of these faces. People were happy to see me come in. It’s special for me to come here and give something back.”Continue Reading on www.courant.com
