New film to mark anniversary of Christian missionaries’ arrival in Moravia

A new historical feature film is being prepared to mark next year’s 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Christian missionaries SS Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia and the beginnings of Christianity in Bohemia and Moravia, the film authors and church dignitaries told journalists yesterday.

The film will be made by Petr Nikolaev. It is to be premiered next year.

The authors said they want the thrilling story from the 9th century to arouse people’s interest in history.

Simultaneously, a five-part series will be made by David Kocar to map the era of Cyril and Methodius, combining the methods of drama and documentary.

Both projects have been supported by the Catholic as well as Orthodox churches, which worship the brother missionaries.
