Kirk Cameron receives celeb backlash for anti-gay comments

Kirk Cameron might have been applauded by Piers Morgan for his statement against homosexuality and gay marriage, but the "Growing Pains" star didn't seem to get more support from fellow celebrities than he has already had. Instead, he received more criticisms including the ones from his co-stars.

Kirk's on-screen sister Tracey Gold was quick to declare which side she's on by tweeting, "I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT Community, and I believe in equal rights for all." Alan Thicke, who plays his on-screen father, was also against him, "I'm getting him some new books. The Old Testament simply can't be expected to explain everything."

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, meanwhile, mocked Kirk, "The only unnatural thing about me being gay is that I had a crush on Kirk Cameron until about 24 hours ago." Debra Messing joined the mockery by writing, "I want to thank Piers Morgan for his response to what he wud say to HIS child if (s)he came out: 'Great, as long as you're happy'."

      Liberals definition of freedom of speech is limited to speech that agrees with their opinions. If you don't agree with them, they will slander you and/or try to silence you. They do this because they know that their position is not backed up with facts. They claim to be 'pro choice' but if you make a choice, whether it be for the traditional view of marriage or being pro-life, that is opposed to their choice, they go ballistic. They are nothing but hypocritical phonies.

          "Christians" are "always" saying that the OT is no longer relevant? Seems like kind of a generalization. I am a Christian and have never taken that position. No doubt that some Christians may say such things, but they obviously do not understand how integral the OT is to the NT and need to do some serious study and prayer. They are probably the same 'Christians' that do not believe the whole Bible is divinely inspired and infallible.

          That would explain why most Christians own, read, carry a Bible that has BOTH the Old and New Testaments!?! To think–I could have made my Bible one third as heavy if I had just ripped out the Old Testament years ago, since we Christians "are always saying that the OT is no longer relevant". However, I would have serious difficulty following my pastor's frequent sermons from the OT if I had? And I wouldn't know that God has plans for me–plans for a future and for me to prosper, or that God knew me before I was even born.

          The Old Testament is a learning tool of how man became seperated from God because of his sin and it explains the history of mans downfall…. and then the hope and salvation is told with the birth of Christ in the New Testament along with the ending with Revelation. So the bible has a beginning and an end….. and within these pages tells us everything we need to know where we came from and where we are going. How is this NOT relevant?

    I agree with Kirk Cameron …I think gays should not be allowed to legally marry (DOMA) but other than that should be afforded all the legal rights heterosexuals are allowed. Homosexuality is not supported in the Bible or any other religious work.

      Miss Duggal, the Bible clearly says that homosexuality is a crime that GOVERNMENTS should punish by capital punishment. Does your statement mean that you believe that all capital criminals (e.g.: murders, rapists, kidnappers, et. al.) should be afforded the same legal rights that non-criminals are allowed? If so there could be no punishment of these capital crimes which are all named in the Bible. The fact is that when one commits a felonious crime one can expect to lose rights in many areas, and if executed in all areas. For example a bank robber is not really free before he is caught because he is always under the threat of being found out and arrested. The proper view of dealing with felons is to make their rights go away until they are captured and brought to trial.

    Alan Thicke may keep his "other books." His response is a vivid reminder that man's so-called knowledge is nothing compared to God's. Christ told us to expect to be vilified for holding to HIS truths. Hollywood "celebrities" may one day, by the grace of God, come to their knees in humble admission of their sins.
    Until then we can expect further nastiness from them…as if their opinions matter. Keep to the truth, Kirk!

      Well said, Rifleman. BTW, I like that nickname, since I'm a fan of the old 50's and 60's shows like "The Rifleman", which I watched earlier today. Those old shows, for the most part, had a good family-friendly moral message, unlike the trashy shows on cable and the networks today. No wonder Kirk gets verbally assaulted simply for making a statement about Biblical morality, something that would have been unheard of in the 50's-mid 60's. With the trash from Hollywood filling many people's minds with perverse ideas, I'd say the USA is in serious jeopardy of going down the toilet permanently.

      Love that passage, but it actually states that the natural man CAN NOT r-e-c-i-e-v-e the things of the Spririt of God, neither can he KNOW them, for they are Spiritually discerned. This means that no one CAN turn and recieve Christ apart from being granted the Grace whereby the Spirit regenerated them. This is only possible through the proclimation of the Gospel. These folks don't realize they are sinners, (even those who say they know they are) for if the Spirit regenerates them, they WILL truly "see and hear" the Truth. In this way they then can turn…these folks are God haters because they were concieved as such and are slaves to their own natures. Hence, Salvation is of the LORD.

    As for the new book, homosexuality is still a sin in the New Testament too. Of course, homosexuality is one of the liberals sacred causes these days.     The problem is that "Hollyweird" has a high incidence of gays working there, including "stars" so that the Biblical values system is scorned. If normal people would boycott those programs and movies that glorify the gay lifestyle or at a minimum make those people of faith look like buffoons and bigots, maybe they would get the message and chill out. After all, they claim they present stuff that people want ot see and thar reflects society. right. As Peter and John asked the religious leaders of their day, when warned not to preach about Jesus, what is better to obey God or may? The question we need to ask is it better to obey God and have nothing to do with a perverse generation or do we just sit back and allow them to feed us their form of entertainment and allow them to dictate what we can or cannot say and do?

    We do have freedom of choice, but there is always a consequence to making wrong ones. There is never anything positive which comes from making bad choices and if I love someone it demands that I tell them the truth, whether they approve of my warnings. Condoning wrong behavior makes me guilty of their sin, just like harboring a bank robber makes me a party to his crime. People do not comprehend the eternal consequences nor how hard it is to be bluntly truthful to those you care about. People go into a closet because of their own guilt and come out when they've lost the capacity to blush.

    Obviously, there are allot of people out there that have not read the gospel, for one homosexuality is mentioned in the new testament not just the old:1 Cor. 6:9, Rom. 1:27 are two that come to mind as I read the comments of the people who know Kirk personally, which are very judgemental themselves. Kirk speaks for me and all true Christians, not those that call themselves Christians trying to get a vote. Kirk's statement does not mean that he hates or dislikes gay people, that is not what Jesus taught us, it is Sin that we dislike and like it or not Homosexuality is a Sin.
    If the world wants to make homosexuality a norm then why not make adulterers, fornicators and sodomites a norm also. Where does stop! I could go on and on, but you get my point! At least I hope you do.

      Depending on your translation "homosexuality" may be in the Bible…but, the word in the original is not there…we are all Homo…and most of us are capable of sexuality…so, making up a word like that just makes no sense…there is no single word for this unnatural act…so we all come up with exsisting words to try to put a label on it…

      But you are correct…Old and New Testaments forbid such action, for it is not in God's Image. It's sad, but, I'm afraid things are going to get worse if ( and I believe we are) in the last days.

    what gets me is that its ok to diagree if your gay but if your not gay a gag order is applied.Homosexuality is not natural.It is counter productive to nature. We should be looking for help for our homosexual and lesbian brother and sisters. If a conjoined twins were born we would seperate, if a cleft pallet child is born we correct with surgery, if a bi polor is dianoised we treat with medication as we do with depression. Do you actually think the average straight female acts anything like the gay female or for that a straight male acts as butchy as a lesbian male?         I've said a million times – there is a commandment against working on the Sabbath and there is not a commandment against being homosexual.

        Where is the outrage against working on the Sabbath? It seems Christians pick their issues based on media reports instead of what is in the Bible.

          The Sabbath was done away with at the advent of Jesus. He declared Himself Lord of the Sabbath.

          For the follower of Christ the sabbath day no longer has any meaning. Nor is their any injunction on Christians to observe it.

          As for the sin of homosexuality, it is condemned in both the Old and New Testaments. In the New Testament, the apostle Paul clearly depicts the homosexual as being reprobated by God. The unrepentant homosexual can expect no mercy at the time of his judgment.

            In this 40,000-student school district, the “neutrality” policy bans faculty and staff from discussing sexual orientation or recognizing homosexuality — effectively a “gag” rule that officially marginalizes gay students and licenses bullying.

            Petition signer Baiba Olinger, who taught at Anoka-Hennepin district schools for 33 years, said, “I feel we have gone backwards in our policy towards LGBT students. How can ‘being neutral’ work? Can I be ‘neutral’ on someone being female or black?”

            Right now, administrators and faculty are standing by as students are bullied and even beaten. One teen dropped out after being attacked and called a “faggot” in front of teachers and classmates who did nothing to intervene.

            Gay youth are left with the choice of attending school under miserable conditions or leaving – and some are becoming so depressed they take their own lives, as Justin Aaberg did.

            Justin’s mother says, "I had no clue that in a school they would have a climate like this and be okay with it.”

          Do a little study, daves, before you reveal even more of your ignorance about the Sabbath. Sabbath keeping is an Old Testament practice that is no longer in force. Christians meet on the first day of the week (See Acts 20:7). So you can say all you want about Sabbath keeping, a million times or more, but in doing so you simply reveal the shallow depth of your understanding of the Bible.

Either that, or you have a new-fangled, fluffy version of the Bible that excludes any and all passages that condemn things that you support. Because I assure you, daves, that there are Scriptures that clearly condemn homosexuality – both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. If you were interested in discovering the truth (which, clearly, you are not), you would take the time to read the following Scriptures:

          Leviticus 18:22-23

          Leviticus 20:13

          Romans 1:26-27

          1 Corinthians 6:9

          1 Timothy 1:9-10

      I agree with Bobseeks on all points. I would hate to be the parent who teaches his children that gay is ok and then when they meet Jesus will find out it was said to be an abomination.     There was a time when it was a biological truth that the anal canal was NOT biologically designed for sexual (or foreign object) penetration. This is NOT an anti-gay statement unless gay men indulge in anal intercourse. The concept includes heterosexual women who allow themselves to be abused by degenerate (is that still a good word?) men. The medical point is that the incidence of anal cancer is on the increase and that anal intercourse is a contributing factor. I am of the opinion that Charlie's angel, Farrah Fawcett-Majors, was a victim of said behavior. Just an opinion mind you. And, the incidence of anal cancer is highest among heterosexual women than it is among gay men. I also think the medical community is so cowed by political correctness that the TRUTH, to the extent that it is known, is not common knowledge. Do doctors advise women engaged to be married that anal intercourse MAY lead to cancer? Do Judges so advise? Do religious leaders so advise? There was a time when blood tests (State dependent) were required before marrying but no warnings of dangerous sexual behavior. Shouldn't this at least be a topic of serious discussion? Or will we be shouted down by those with an agenda of – anything goes regardless of the consequences?

    I was molested as a child and that is when the problems began. Children are innocent and that is why the Lord says to come to him as a child.
    I was not a good student in school after that always daydreaming and always trying to escape from my reality. When I was about 13 yrs. old I started to smoke cigarettes and marijuana and that seems to make it better to deal with. I could escape my life without all those head games. I got high all the time and in high school they kicked me out. I was doing alot of different drugs for years. When I was about 19 I started working in a gay club and while serving drinks to the guys and wanted to know if they were also molested. I worked there for a few yrs. and was somewhat shocked to find out that the majority of them were molested. I started a relationship while I was working there and it went on for a few yrs. and after awhile I found out that he was playing around and that is very normal in the gay lifestyle.

      Children are not born innocent as the Psalmist (David) states it…I was conceived in INIQUITY…his Dad and Mom were married, so, how was he conceived in sin?

    Part 2 ! So I left the job and the relationship and once again found myself empty and somewhat alone. To make a very long story short, I was searching for happiness for what most of us want.. One day these 2 girls asked me if I wanted to go with them to here this man called David Wilkerson at a Christian college speak so I said yes and wow what happened next. They were talking about Jesus and what he did for us and their were all these guys and girls there that spoke about how their lives were changed by him a while I was listening to them I started to here truth and a light went on in my head and heart and at the end of the service they asked if anyone wanted to accept Jesus as their Savior to pray the sinners prayer and I stood up and did and as I stood their this warm oil started flowing from the top of my head to the soles of my feet and God touched me and I had just experienced the greatest high I ever had and it was Real and I had so much peace. growing.

As I sat down the girls on both sides of me asked if that was me, my heart was beating like a drum and I was glowing like a light and I know now that it was the Holy Spirit, but than I just new that God had touched me. I was changed than and started going to churches and growing. After a while I got married and had acouple of children and we had our share of problems mostly of the past of sexual abuse and she left me. Well I had gone back in the old lifestyle and told myself that I was going to find myself a Christian guy and met someone who told all the things I wanted to here and more and than after awhile I found out that he was far from a Christian and very,very promiscuous and than found out that I was hiv+ and in shock and a few yrs. later we split and met another guy and than he got tested and found out he was also hiv+ and a few yrs. later he passed away, but before he passed he had accepted the Lord. After that I was lost and lonely and had a few short term relationships and one longer term.

    Romans 1 appears to indicate that homosexualism is a direct effect of a society that does not acknowledge God as Creator. America had a great manifestation of that when the Federal Supreme Court declared abortion a human right under articles of privacy rights. This time, politicians deceive themselves and attempt to deceive the American citizen into thinking we are not bankrupt beyond recovery. Sixteen Trillion dollars of debt in such a bad economy and a weak dollar in addition to Trillion dollar "planned" (budgeted) deficits is just immoral.

Call and write your elected leaders and tell them you want them to speak against what this current administration is doing to take us all further from God's word. When we don't speak up and go to the voting booth and get these people out we are part of the problem. Experience has taught me that an overwhelming majority of the members of the so-called "love and tolerance" crowd are nothing but hypocrites who fail miserably when it comes to practicing what they preach. See, it's easy to love and tolerate people who agree with you. But it's very difficult to love and tolerate people who have opinions and beliefs that are different than your own. *That* is when a true test of character takes place.

    Romans 1 appears to indicate that homosexualism is a direct effect of a society that does not acknowledge God as Creator. America had a great manifestation of that when the Federal Supreme Court declared abortion a human right under articles of privacy rights. Since then the argument of separation of Church and State has been increasingly cited in lawsuits, regulation, policies, etc. with the express purpose of stamping God, His Son, Jesus, and His Word from every public place. One by one, states of the Union are legalizing same-sex marriages, making it the official law of the land, even against the will of 70% of citizens, proving the testimony in Romans 1. At the same time the prosperity America has enjoyed since her foundation, except during the Civil War and Great Depression dwndles. This time, politicians deceive themselves and attempt to deceive the American citizen into thinking we are not bankrupt beyond recovery. Sixteen Trillion dollars of debt in such a bad economy and a weak dollar in addition to Trillion dollar "planned" (budgeted) deficits is just immoral.

Christians know that our Messiah was born a Jew and that He obeyed and taught obedience to the dictates of the Old Testaament. In fact, Christians acknowledge that Christianity is based on the Old Testament. We cannot truly know our religion wthout a knowledge of the Old Testament. If you read the Bible with an open mind, which I doubt you do, you will find that the authors of the books in the New Testament frequently quote the Old.

    I refuse to watch the trash that Hollywood produces anymore. I can not even watch TV and all of the crap they put forth. I do, however, watch the films Kirk Cameron has been in and purchased them.

    God, will give us the strength to over come the idiocy that is in our Media, programs and World. We just have to be patient and know that he is the Lord, God and the Omega.
