Christian Leaders Advise Santorum to Exit Race

Conservative Christian leaders who have in past months embraced the conservative message of former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum are now calling for him to consider exiting the GOP race for the White House so that voters can access the qualifications of the Democrat and Republican nominees.

One of those who sees the reality of Santorum's chances slipping away is Dr. Richard Land who heads the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.

"I have not spoken to Rick about this issue, but as his friend, I would advise him to consider getting out of the race at this point," Land told The Christian Post. "Rick is a still a young man and has a bright future in 2016 and beyond."

"He has run a solid campaign the last six months and resurrected himself once again as a major political figure in our nation," continued Land. "This is the most important election in our nation since 1860 and we need time to vet and access the statements and beliefs of the two men who will be representing our country's two major parties."

What a disgusting display of pragmatism by these "Christian" leaders. The fact is, these "leaders" should be sending a message that, unless the GOP fields a bona-fide Christian for the race against maobama, they will withdraw their support for the GOP and sit this one out. The fact is, GOD will not bless a nation that can't field anything better for a leader than a devil of the left or a devil of the right.

Ron Paul IS a dedicated, bona fide Christian. He just does not believe in broadcasting that fact for the purpose of getting votes. There are far more Paul supporters than the mainstream media would have you believe. They are the ones who realize that every candidate except Ron Paul will continue on the path of endless wars and bankrupting economic policy. He is the only one that understands that we currently have a dictatorship by the banking industry.

      • Evermyrtle

Hiding your Christian beliefs, means your beliefs are not strong enough to be able to stand on them.

        • daves

Not near as bad as using your relationship with God for political gain.

    • B. Smith

Excellent idea. Just stay at home and let Obama have another 4 years. Kind of childish don't you think. Sort of…if you don't play by my rules I will just take my toys and go home. I have an extremely difficult struggle identifying any republican who would be worse that what we currently have.

      • bighoss

You haven't looked very hard, have you?

      • http://conservativebyte.com Michael G.

A drug sore wooden indian would be better than what we currently have.

    • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Romney is going to be the candidate. The sooner Republicans accept this and rally behind him, the better chance we have to defeat Obama.

      • M Green

        Wow, Jeff. You're a Republican. I'm impressed.

        • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

I have always been a Republican. Atheists are rational.

          • http://youtu.be/zjgBhpanOfQ Despeville

Hahahahahaaha, you and rationality is like making firewater from fire and water.

      • http://youtu.be/zjgBhpanOfQ Despeville

Gee what a political genius you are… That has been known at least three weeks ago.

        • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

The article was about Santorum quitting the race. Whether it was known weeks ago or not has nothing to do with my post. But we both already knew that Humpty.

          • http://youtu.be/zjgBhpanOfQ Despeville

You mumble the obvious and you see your mumbling as any relevant or on time pronouncements. Pathetic.

      • Evermyrtle

Jeff, First I am a Christian, then I am a Republican. You are likely right and when you look over the field of candidates I don't believe between the whole flock there is not $00.10 of difference. At ONE TIME, I thought Santorium would be the Christian who would work out for us. I quickly changed my mind. As time passes I think, "ONLY GOD CAN STRAIGHTEN OUT THE MESS WE HAVE GOTTEN OURSELVES INTO, WITH OUT EYES OPEN." All of the signs were there! Either we did not want to see them or were blinder by the "MASTER OF EVIL"

    • Lasaro Flores

You all still don't see it. The POTUS will be the one God puts into office by the means of the voting process. Yet, He will put the one we deserve. The problem with our nation are the "Christians!" God has withdrawn Himself from this nation, we the people of God have derelict in our responsibility and duty; but worse, we are so full of the world and sin that we have turn our backs on our God and we can see the results around us in every area of our lives. Our only hope rests if we turn back to God in Jesus Christ before it's too late. But as I've noted the comments, I'm afraid that if professing Christians vote for Romney it reveals how much of the truth of God is in their hearts. Even Santorum or Gingrich won'e do, either.

      • Evermyrtle

The only reason HE will have anything to do with this mess is to use it to put an end to the evil that has literally swamped this world. According to the way I understand HIS WORD HE won't put up with our shanigans much longer. You are right. The question of who is best? As humans we can only, pray that we don't make a mistake and close our eyes and draw a straw!!! WE CAN DEPEND ON IT, IT IS IN HIS HANDS.

    • reb

What an ignorant post. You really need to do some soul searching and pray for forgivness of your hateful ways.

  • aceituna

We need to fight the evil in the govt. with whomever God gives us to do the fight. That is why I will vote for the Republican even it though it is the Morman, Romney. Yes. I prefer Santorum, to tell the truth I would have much preferred to vote for Caine.

  • Esteban Cafe

"Anybody but Obama !" needs to be the Conservative/Christian war cry. Now, let this group drop their attacks on each other and focus on pointing out the considerable foibles of your Mr. Obama. The world's problems are a bit larger than America's: when you catch a cold, we catch pneumonia. If you lose your freedoms, we lose everything.

As your American V. Vidivici said: "We’ve sent naïfs — heads chocked full of kindergarten morality — out to do business with stone killers and gangsters posing as statesman. ‘A’ in the classroom, ‘F’ on the street, with little to no life experience, people who couldn’t change a tire."

    • Evermyrtle

Our choice is heartbreaking for a Christian nation. We are up against a stone wall.

      Matt. 7: 16-20
      16. You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
      17. Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit.
      18. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
      19. Every tree that brings not forth good fruit is cut down, and cast int the fire..
      20. Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them.

Much Christian prayer id badly needed .

  • B. Smith

Hey people, we are electing the next leader of the free world not the next Pope. For the sake of this nation and even for the sake of Christianity do as Esteban Cafe stated and develop an "anybody but Obama"attitude. I am a believer like most of you but please do not let your faith blind you to what another 4 years of Obama could do to this great nation.

    • bighoss

The "anybody but Obama" mentality is a contagious disease among the wing nuts on automatic political pilot who are despairing of getting a GOP candidate who will belly up to the disordered, deluded demands of the Tea Party throwbacks.

Well, boys and girls, you are gonna get, as your nominee, one of those distasteful personages, a GOP Establishment moderate, which is the worst you could have hoped for within your splintered, chaotic party. And add to that that your boy Mitt is a Plastic Man with a contrived and utterly unconvincing persona, who will have to stand up and debate a skillful, charismatic incumbent President who can point to a genuine record of economic improvement that is getting better every day. By election time, the silliness of the right wing claims of administration failure to improve the economy will be laughable, leaving very little for Romney to find any fault, though he will try hard to do so. The superPACs will use their vast reserves of money to put out so much blithering balderdash and Karl Roveian rubbish that by November, it will have become apparent to all but the terminally deluded that truth does not matter any more to these lying weasels. The backlash will express itself in the form of a high proportion of the independent vote going to Obama. Owing to the alienation of women voters by all the baloney put out by Santorum and the GOP concerning (amazingly!) contraception, the female vote for Obama will swell to and probably exceed, the level encountered in any recent election. The Hispanic vote is in the bag for Obama already, as is the African American vote.

It doesn't look good for the "anybody (dumb) butts"!!

That "anybody but Obama" mantra is gonna get you–guess what—OBAMA!

      • http://youtu.be/zjgBhpanOfQ Despeville

"skillful, charismatic incumbent President who can point to a genuine record of economic improvement"

        "Skillful" IN WHAT? Basketball?

"economic improvement"? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? Or have you been on secluded island last three years?

Finally this tops if all: "charismatic"? What are you smoking? He is no more "charismatic: than Velcro is…

        • bighoss

Frankly, I actually find Velcro to be rather charismatic. I never cease to delight in its determined adhesiveness and its intense, singular focus on doing so very well the one thing it is designed to do. There is a certain excitement in fastening and unfastening secure closures that are free of the nagging encumbrances of such impedimenta as buttons, snaps and zippers. I get positively tingly each time I un-Velcro or re-Velcro the pockets on my favorite fishing shirt!

      • bighoss

Watch this space for a puerile, insulting eructation of unmitigated vitriol by our local haranguer, Boobschreeches!

      • B. Smith

        Enjoy the Kool-aide Bighoss.

  • EVERMYRTLE

That is my problem, I AM NOT BLINDED!!

    • B. Smith

You like what Obama is doing? The direction he is taking the country? His treatment of religion and the Church?

      • evermyrtle

B Smith, you are not near as good at mind reading as you appear to be. My faith is very strong BUT I know what is going around me too. I have know just what Obama is capable of, since the beginning. I have a fairly good line on Obam, ROmney, Santaoum, Paul and Ginfrich.I thinkit is a "NO_NO"to say what I thin about the entire deal but it looks bad.
by the by that is exactly what i meant by, I AM NO T BLINDED!! I really would like to know what on earth did you think I meant.

To answer you question I knew from the word go, what Obam was, not ever what I wanted. I was never fooled for a moment. HOW ABOUT YOU, THE SAME QUESTION???

      • bighoss

Yep, I like what he is doing. And he is NOT doing anything adverse to religion and the church.

Remember a warmongering imperialist nation builder named George W. Bush (hint: "Mission Accomplished")? Have you noticed that no GOP candidate wants his endorsement? They are embarrassed by his miserable performance. Many of those who put that disaster in office are now clamoring to remove his successor, who has gotten this country on the way to recovery and is doing about all that a president can do to disengage us from the insane and costly military misadventures of G.W. Bush and the neoconservative empire builders and puppeteers who pulled his strings.

        • http://youtu.be/zjgBhpanOfQ Despeville

Describing Bush and his nuttery does not make Obama what you imagine him to be.

          • bighoss

No, but it helps the duped Bush supporters of the past to retrospectively see the error of their ways and just might be an encouragement not to be too awfully conclusive about the incumbent President, but to give time a chance to educate them on HIS performance. The economy is on a strong up-tick following the disasters of the Bush era military misadventures and the financial collapse engineered by the greed of the Wall Street crowd. Time will tell.

          • http://youtu.be/zjgBhpanOfQ Despeville

Strong tick? Yea if you mean a timed disaster. Let me tell you about that tick. 45 million Americans on food stamps another 30 million qualifies to the T for them byt fight the loosing battle to not to use them. All of that accelerated under President Hussain. You can of course relegate all of that to nitwit Bush but is it reasonable?

    • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

No, your problem is that you are delusional.

  • msjallen

It is not who is in power that matters; it has to do with Christians who are growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and applying Biblical principles to their lives each day. Then our Nation will be cleansed from most of the evil that is upon us. God is the only one who can help this nation.
Psalm 33:10-11 The LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of nations. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation.
Phil 4:6 Be anxious (stop worrying about anything) for nothing, but in everything (in all circumstances: prosperity and adversity) by means of prayer and supplication (requesting special needs for self) after thanksgivings let your requests be made known to God (let the things sought for be revealed in the presence of The God).

    • belinda

      BY HIS GRACE,
PERIOD….this is a great word. God Bless you and your Family.

I'm not sure Satorum can win.
The other day I heard s blurb if he does cease his campaign, then the money spent in the Primary could be directed against OB more effectively.

    • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

      Of course he cannot win.

      • bighoss

No, but he can hang in there and show the country just how warped and bumfuzzled the right wing can be!

    • bighoss

Santorum is a welcome drag on the Romney candidacy and a desirable way to bleed resources from the GOP coffers and the slimy superPACs, such as those of the disgusting Koch Brothers. Hang in there, Rick!!

Remember who is in charge. God knows what He is doing. We may not understand why certain things happen but remember "All things work together for good to those that love God, those who are called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28) If Romney is the person God permits to be put up against Obama, I will vote for him though I much prefer either Caine or Santorum. I will trust that God knows what is best and will allow Him to be our guide.
