Have you ever wondered looking at history why anyone would want to be counted among the Jewish people. There are many ways to give-up that heavy obligation. The most Secular among them will be at a synagogue every Yom Kippur, where as a community , they ask God's forgiveness for there sins of the previous year; as prescribed in the Bible. Secular or Religious , they know they fullfil a divine plan. As one well known American Rabbi said in a TV interview.( paraphrase) ' When the Messiah comes , it will not matter–but some may be curious and ask — Have you been here before ? ' On a related subject, if you ask ANY American Jew ( Conservative or Liberal) to make a choice between America and Israel; they cannot…. because for them — the choice is like the mother who Screamed and thew herself on the ground , when King Solomon tested who loved the baby more by suggesting the baby be cut in two. During the 2,000 years Israel had become a waste land. Many years before The State of Israel was established, Zionist began to reclaim this waste land by, draining swamps,digging wells,; and planing forests. Land, which once once was worthless, land which did not interest the Arabs,until it became fertile again, because if the Zionists constant work. Israel's industry has become is the most advanced in Western Asia. Now the Arabs want it and are in constant attempt to get it. at

And why do you suppose "many Christians" believe this, Dave? Might it be because that is what the New Testament teaches? In fact, the NT is so bold as to claim that ANYONE (not just Jewish people) who does not submit to Christ as Savior "will not make it into heaven."
