Missouri to vote on 'right to pray' amendment

Voters in the U.S. state of Missouri will decide on August 7 whether to approve a constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to pray in public places.

Governor Jay Nixon signed a proclamation on Wednesday setting the election on the amendment, which Missouri legislators voted overwhelmingly last year to put on the ballot in 2012.

Had Nixon not signed the proclamation, the amendment would have automatically appeared on the November 6 general election ballot. A spokesman for Nixon declined to say whether his signing of the proclamation meant the governor supported the measure.

While the U.S. Constitution protects the right to pray in public places, supporters of the Missouri ballot issue want to clarify those rights. In House committee testimony last year, they said there is increasing ignorance about religious expression. Opponents testified that the amendment adds nothing to existing law and may invite litigation.

Is this another liberal governor?? People of Missouri please be diligent, and vote that you will have the right to pray our GOD AND SON JESUS CHRIST in public or where ever you choose, A RIGHT WHICH HAS ALREADY GIVEN TO YOU BY GOD. The government of the USA is trying to take this right from us. They can't do that, vote for prayer and show them that you will abide by GOD'S WILL, NOT THE GOVERNMENT'S WILL.

Hold there feet to the fire and call ever day and remind them all you are a voter and we have a right to pray anywhere and any time……

The Bible clearly states the following:"That day (rapture of the church), shall not come, lest there be a vast falling away (apostasy) first. We are seeing that in every facet of todays life in America. It is difficult at best, to find a doctrinally sound church where the pastor preaches the Bible, the whole Bible, and nothing but the Bible. Rather, pentacostal/charismatic churches are gaining daily in popularity, preaching a social gospel of signs and wonders. This once great nation has become a cesspool of humanity feeding at the public trough. We have sown the wind, and are reaping the whirlwind. There is still time, but am not optimistic this nation can survive OBAMA and his commie/muslim co-horts.

Has there ever been a generation in the history of mankind that has not had a vast falling away?

The Bible did NOT plainly state the material you posted. The Bible did not have the parenthetical addition ("rapture of the church") that you found necessary to insert in the attempt to gain Biblical credibility for your dispensational premillennialist
      hobby.

Hmmm! I don't recall Daniel getting an amendment passed before he prayed in public!!!

Wake up Christians! This is the consequence of the constitutional framers' rejection of Yahweh's law for civil government and the Christians of the day letting them get away with it, thereby subjugating themselves to secular, humanist jurisdiction.

Find out how much you really know about the Constitution as compared to Yahweh's moral law (His commandments, statutes, and judgments). Precisely. Since when do we need the government to give us "permission" to pray? Come to think of it, how would they stop you, anyway?

      • Tim

To answer your question, see China, North Korea, every communist, Marxist, and Muslim run country…

        • petroskhan1262

I guess I was referring more to the actual praying itself. Sure, you can into trouble in the places you mention for dropping to your knees, hands clasped, etc. But simply talking to God, praying…? I've done it while driving, before falling asleep, while walking my dog, and at work.

Don't see how anyone can stop you from that.

        • Evermyrtle

The Christians have not been stopped in any of those places. These people are wiling to die for GOD as should we be. GOD IS ALIVE AND WELL IN THOSE PLACES. PEOPLE THERE WILL NOT LET HIM GO.

      • bighoss

You don't, and this amendment neither adds nor subtracts anything to or from any right that does not already exist. It is a
piece of Christian nationist posturing, designed to gain favor with ignorant right wingers who have deluded themselves into actually believing that there is any threat at all to their right to pray.

  • lambsev

    PRAY ANYWAY.

  • keyboardshark

Dare to be a Daniel. Pray no matter what the government or anyone else says, and regardless of the cost.

Well Missouri, Let's see what you do with this. You can sit and watch TV on voting day, or get up and be counted! Your vote and the outcome will set a way for others to follow. Remember there is no Separation of Church and State written within the constitution. Give them an overwhelming voter turnout. Thank you.
