Focus on the Family Leader Calls for Immigration Reform

Focus on the Family President Jim Daly on Monday joined over 100 other evangelical leaders who signed a statement calling for immigration reform, saying that most of the country's illegal immigrants should be granted U.S. citizenship.

Daly said the reason he added his name to the star-studded evangelical list is because the issue of immigration is not simply a legal issue, but a family one as well.

"I just felt – along with the board of directors here a Focus, who just met this week so the timing was perfect – that fundamentally all of us were concerned about the family issues related to this issue now," Daly told Christianity Today on Tuesday.

In addition to Daly, others engaged in the issue include Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, Max Lucado, Russell Moore, J.D. Greear and Timothy George. Organizations associated with the effort include the National Association of Evangelicals, the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and World Relief.

The issue of immigration has been a contentious issue for many years. Advocates on both sides of the issue have become so grounded in their beliefs that hardly any opportunity exists for either side to find common ground.

Very disappointing. I'll be withdrawing my support for Focus on the Family.

I'm with you. ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL in all sense of the word. Send the whole family back from whence they came. Then they will continue to be a "family".

  • T.L.

Take the family back to the native country. Stop rewarding illegal activity, stop rewarding the children of illegal aliens. If they found their way here illegal, they can certainly find their way back to their native country. The USA needs to be considerate of the countries from which these illegals arrive–after all they have economies too, and need the human resource to improve their economy, not see those resource being allowed to stay in the USA.

  • Granny

If the children have been born and raised here then I am for the family being able to stay as the children will be in for a culture shock to be forced back to their native countries when all they have known is the USA.

It is so sad to see religious leaders repeating the lies of the same politicians who are pushing against Christians in so many ways. Repeating a lie doesn't make it the truth no matter who repeats it. These supporters of the don't enforce our laws open border crowd always fail to mention the harm being done to families of citizens by illegal immigration. What about the Citizens who have had family killed, molested, raped, robbed, ID's stolen and the list goes on. Not a word about it because the truth would not serve their greed or unlawful position.

  • Evermyrtle

i believe if we could screen these illegals in some way that we could only allow those who would obey all of the laws of the land and send the rest packing back to were ever they came from it would be a good thing That would cut down 75% of the criminals in the country, 70% of our unwed births. What a difference that would make. But mention such a thing to DC if you want a riot.

James Dobson is a pious phony. He adheres to the Nazarene concept of "entire sanctification" and contends that he has reached a stage of spiritual perfection where he does not sin. This false doctrine also is referred to as the "second work of grace. "

<<<"Gil Alexander-Moegerle, a former Focus executive and once one of Dobson's most trusted advisors, writes in his 1997 book James Dobson's War on America that this "Holiness" principle is key to understanding Dobson's worldview: "James Dobson believes that he has been entirely sanctified, morally perfected, that he does not and cannot sin. Now you know why he and moralists like him make a life of condemning what he believes to be the sins of others. He is perfect.">>>

I personally wrote to Focus on the Family to ascertain whether Dobson actually held to this view. The organization never responded.

    • Evermyrtle

I understand he is pushing the One World Government, which, if this is true he is way out in left field with the plain common sinners.

      • Evermyrtle

I do apologize, it is not Dopson, but Shuler who is backing the One World Union

        • bighoss

Forget about Schuler; he is a disgraced nobody.

Dobson is a poseur and an egomaniac.

You can do very well without either.

If a person is in the USA illegally: Deport every single one of them that is currently lodged in an American Jail or Prison. Deport every single one of them that has ever spent time in American Prison for a felony conviction. Deport every one of them that has once been sent back to their country of origin and is now caught in America again. Deport every one of them that is taking money in the form of food stamps, or free medical services. For those others that are still in America illegally, make them fill out forms for legal citizenship, learn English as their primary language within 1 year, learn American History to understand our founding within 1 year, make them swear allegiance to America, inform them that if they are convicted of a felony within the next 5 years, they will be deported permanently. If they stay clean for 5 years Grant them Citizenship. Do that and I will be pleased every time I see a Mexican, because I will know that they are here because they love America and are willing to work to become one of the "Melting Pot of Americans".

    • Mistertea

"Do that and I will be pleased every time I see a Mexican.."

Wayne, they don't have "Mexican" stamped on their foreheads, no matter what you may have heard on Hannity.

What a bunch of hypocritical bull. How bout we deport all illegals first.Strengthen our borders then fix immigration reform.Instead of just granting a free for all.

Focus on the Family has been treading on VERY secular non-Christian values for some time now.
They are becoming very liberal with their promotion of secular humanistic values. They might just as well join the Mormon church and adopt a morality/ works-related plan of salvation. Dr. Laura has just as good of advise as they do.

I haven't listened to them on the radio since they virtually endorsed Obama at the last election.
