A Biblical Threat to National Security?

Can a Bible be a “threat to national security”?

For years, the government has employed the risk of “national security” excuse to infringe on a wide range of freedoms — like the right to pass through an airport security checkpoint unmolested, or read library books without Big Brother peeking over your shoulder.

Michael L. “Mikey” Weinstein is trying to prove that there is more than one way to put the country at risk, and he’s found it in a heretofore unlikely place: the Bible.

Well, the Holman Bible. To be more exact, a version of the Bible that, for reasons still undetermined, was authorized with the trademarked official insignia of the U.S. Armed Forces emblazoned on the front cover. There is The Soldier’s Bible with the Army’s seal, The Marine’s Bible with the Marine Corps seal, The Sailor’s Bible and The Airman’s Bible, both with their respective insignia. The books have been sold for nearly six years throughout Christian bookstores, commissaries and PXs on U.S. military installations — and are still available on Christianbook.com, Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.

I do not believe that I have ever heard of anything more rediculas in my life. The entire universe belongs to GOD and the Bible is HIS WORD and COMMANDMENTS. The threat to our security is that all of the anti-GOD principles and laws we have adopted.

There is no doubt in the mind of a Christian, that the laws and principles, that GOD tells us that we should live by are those in the BIBLE. HE will protect our country forever as long as we follow what HE has written in there, for our instruction. When we think we know better or that HIS rules are out of date, and give ourselves the right to alter them we are in danger. That is why we are in such a mess in this country, now, we have outlawed most of HIS laws, which HE has written in HIS BIBLE.

    • ymejb

You have a said that very well. The world is in a state of confusion because they have failed to recognize who God is. Blaming the bible and God as a threat to National Security is something that the coming Antichrist wants to see endorsed as the main problem in society: it will only get worse in the coming days. Stay strong in Him who is in control of ALL things.

    • Robert De Leon

      I couldn't say it better.
      Thanks Evermyrtle.
      Robert.

    • marie

evermyrtle, you're right in what you said. And the entire universe [ right on to infinity ] is Gods. His bible is His word. And His laws are for us…to make us happier. When we break those laws and do our own thing, its not only to our shame, but Gods. Obama was allowed to be where he is because those laws [ 10 commandments ] were pushed right out the window and morals went down the drain. We are under a certain amount of dictatorship and it can and will get worse if we don't get back to God and obey him. There are many that still don't see this and they need to. They really believe if Obama is re-elected, everything is going to turn out okay….free this and free that, etc.
a lot of these people don't seem to realize that through Abraham, we got this country…Gods promises. And we can lose it too…by pushing out the very one that gave his promises because of our own disobedience.

      • tbone

It doesn't matter who gets elected president this year, we still must turn to God and repent as a nation. The election results don't change God's plans. And for that reason, I care not who gets elected and who doesn't, but I will still vote because its my right as an American

    • daves

The question being asked here is which bible since there are so many differences between them.

      • Jack

Good point, but I think the better question is; Old Testament, New Testament, or Both? Then, which version/translation, or maybe even the original in the original language it was written in, which is really the only way to ever know what they were actually saying,?
But, does a person give up their identity, all that which makes them who they are, if they have a job that serves the people, to protect the rights of the individual? Or are they supposed to be who they are because that's why they got the job in the first place? And is not the right to chose for ones self, to own and be free to use their own mind to think and make their own decisions the greatest of ALL we are endowed with? I ponder this a lot when such things arrive; Thomas Jefferson once wrote The legitimate powers of government are limited to such acts which are injurious to others, it makes no difference if my neighbor prays to one God or Twenty, it neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. I've pondered on hose words many times and there is a great depth to them, to their wisdom. But sometimes I just have to ask; How many people out there are getting their legs broke, or suffering any injury? And no I don't believe hurt feelings, or I don't like it, those don't count.

      • A. Reginald

Rather foolidh statement. Either you don't know the Bible, or else you are blind. The differrences are largely in the cover, the message is the same! There are some differences in language style, depending on whether you have a somewhat archaic translation, such as the Geneva or King James, or one of the newer like the New International Version. But cut to the message and you find no difference, unless you cannot understand archaic English. Even those translationxs in languages foreign to you still have the same message – the forgiveness of our sins through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary and his subsequent resurrection and ascension!

        • tbone

The King James (Authorized Version) is not archaic. That is man's opinion, not God's. It's simply written in old english which has no bearing on its accuracy or authenticity. Stating this, I am not a KJV only believer either. There are many good translations but one must be careful because there are newer so-called translations that are "gender-neutral" and leave out the gender references to God. There are others that use different words that confuse the translation of particular verses too.

    • Carole

Bravo! Very well said, my thoughts entirely!

    • crashaxe

      Amen!

  • http://www.divinenewsnetwork.com Min. Thomas Allen

This article makes no sense. Where are the official sources you usually put to articles showing they are saying this?

    • Gordon

December 2006 Cybercast News Service: "Pentagon Evangelism Called 'National Security Threat.' Christian military officers who share their faith at work in the Pentagon pose a threat to national security, according to a group that advocates for religious neutrality in the military."

      • Evermyrtle

Blaming the bible is a little like like blaming a beautiful woman, that you can't take your eyes of, of and ran into the river, while riding in your car. Just because it is there it is blamed

  • Ken

I still have the pocket New Testament that my dad received — complete with a message to the troops from FDR — during World War II.

I suppose that if Weinstein had been around back then, he would have objected to its distribution on the grounds that it offended the Emperor-worship sensibilities of the Japanese troops our guys encountered in the Pacific, making them fight even more fanatically than they actually did.

    • keyboardshark

Yes Ken, I have one of those WW II New Testament/Psalms with that same message from FDR to the troops, in which he commended the reading of the Bible to the armed forces:

      "The White House, Washington

      January 25, 1941.

      To the Armed Forces:

As Commander-in-Chief I take pleasure in commending the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States.Throughout the centuries men of many faiths and diverse origins have found in the Sacred Book words of wisdom, counsel, and inspiration. It is a fountain of strength and now, as always, an aid in attaining the highest aspirations of the human soul.

      Very sincerely yours,

      Franklin D. Roosevelt"

Can you imagine the current Commander-in-Chief writing something like that in the front of a Bible and sending it to our troops today? Neither can I. The liberals would have a hissy fit if any modern President distributed Bibles to the troops with a message like that.

My Father (who passed away in 2009) also served in the military during WW II in the Philippines. Had they not dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, his unit was scheduled to be in the first-wave assault on the Japanese mainland, and I might not be here today to tell the tale had that happened.

He also narrowly escaped death on the transport ship over to the Philippines. There were two transport ships divided alphabetically, A-K and L-Z. He was aboard the L-Z ship, and the A-K transport was torpedoed with nearly complete loss of life. Just thankful his name wasn't Aaron Aardvark or Zeke Kzynski or something in between, LOL.

Every aspect of our lives, as Christians, are being threatened by the secular world we live in, or more to the point, God points out the immorality that will be celebrated in this secular world.
Right now we have the secularists saying they will allow 6 of the Ten Commandments, given to us by God…yet, if we take a close look at any of them, we fail at every day, just in our elected officials, federal and state, alone.
The lies, liars, fraud, corruption, double talk, double standards, immorality and picket fence sitting, can be seen in every area of society today. From education, law, politicians, military, businesses, entertainment, family, celebrity status and churches and clergy.
In every aspect of getting to know God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, followers of Jesus, our failing human nature and struggles, we are given action words by Jesus to abide by. SEEK, KNOCK, ASK. Yet, most Christians can't even do that these days, in the small instruction of knowing what is sin and isn't by reading, not listening what others say is, God Word.
I know I fail in that simple task, and my eyes were opened when I got the simple task of 'judge not lest ye be' wrong. I listened that if I called out sin in others, I was a hypocrite, which was partially true, but taking Jesus words short, in not reading to remove the 'plank' from my eye (my sinful past), before I can remove the 'speck' from others eyes. Jesus didn't say to not call out sin, in love that He had, to sit with sinners, but as a friend, father and someone that wanted to help others, point out where others were falling. I find that much clearer when I see my little nephew doing something wrong, and remembering I did the same thing as a child. I try to make it so he doesn't go through the pain I did, to warn, instruct and command him to listen to me, much as the Bible does. Not in hate, but in love.
All immorality will do everything it can, to stop that from happening. God Bless.

    • daves

What do you mean by aspects of your life are being threatened? Are people physically threatening you? Are you being threatened with jail time?

      • RAL

Yes, I have been physically threatened. I had a knife at my throat one time. I also have friends in China now, that after coming back from China, has warned me they see America turning into secular belief, which is a choice anyone has the right to have. Since they have been in jail in China, and yes arrested here to for speaking out about Christ, I would say that is happening.
I have protected one of my homosexual cousins, many years ago, from so called 'Christians' attacking him, and I have seen the same from a group of homosexuals attacking a friend of mine sharing the Gospel. Hate is a powerful tool the devil uses, and Christians can use it as well as anyone else. I know I have, one time when I had a Bible study in my neighborhood, and the neighborhood bully showed up. His younger brother wanted to know about Christ, but it ended up with my chasing the bully with the rock he hit me with, when I was reading the Bible to his brother. I ended up chasing him to his house, threatening to throw it, but never doing it, till I ended up with his dad chasing me down, picking me up by the collar of my shirt, and me wrestling free to run home. At that early age, I learned my response was wrong. I did it, but I could not change the facts. All I could do was try to learn from my mistakes. God Bless Daves.

      • Evermyrtle

Of course you can't se that your are being threatened as well as the rest of us. When we lose out bit of freedom where do you think you will be. Ar you under the illusions that because you are siding with them that will ive you some advantage??

There are people in the USA in jail because they proclaimed JESUS CHRIST AS THE SON OF GOD AND SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.

        • daves

Can you name one of these people who are in jail? If it is true then we should all protest 24/7 to get them out.

          • RAL

Thank you Daves for your words. I appreciate it. They were in jail (if you re-read my words), and a couple have been in jail in China, as well as here. I have not heard from them for a while, and from their missionary trips to other nations, they have risked their lives many times to spread Gods Word. I no longer go to the same church, so I have lost some connections, but I will pass onto others if they do end up in jail, that even those, who may not have the same belief, are willing to stand up in protest. God Bless Daves.

This falls under seperation of church and state argument. A gov. insignia can't be placde on a religious item. Pesky athiest win again. By 2050 there will be more musims than christians. There are over 9million muslims in America 2 of those are US senators. And 1 is a our president. prepare yourself to recieve the martyrs crown.

    • spiritofthe20s

The muslim population is half that of the figure you give.. And, God willing and the creek don't rise, they'll all go back to their sand pits and their goats.

    • bighoss

NO! The President is NOT a Muslim, notwithstanding the many lies told to that effect by deluded or bigoted bozos such as you.

      • Vladimir

There are more than a few that disagree with you, bighoss, and I certainly would not characterize them as "deluded or bigoted bozos". Don't let your love for this Marxist radical in the WH cloud your opinion of those that disagree with you.

      • Linda F.

I have heard that according to the Muslims, Obama is a Muslim because his father was a Muslim. And even if he doesn't practice Islam, it's obvious that he's a Muslim sympathizer.

There is NOTHING about 'Separation" of church and state. Read the constitution for yourself. When people hear the same lie enough times they begin to believe it.

The 1st amendment says that the government can not ESTABLISH a religion NOR ~Prohibit The Free Exercise Thereof.~

They can not Establish a religion, that is why it is called the "Establishment Clause." This stems from England and the Anglican Church being the Official church. The founders wanted people to be free to worship God as any religion they chose.

No "Separation of church and state"

      • daves

So what is the difference between establishing a religion and supporting a religion?

  • Sharon

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it Psalm:127-1 National Security is made of man they are covering up to impelment their new world order in the end they are in for a very rude awaking!! God have Mercy on their souls their going to need it.

And they dared not speak His name, for fear of the Jews.(St. John) Nothing has changed in 2000 years.

    • Robert De Leon

And nowadays fear to Muslims, believe it or not.
      Robert.

      • spiritofthe20s

        Yep.

    • prodigal48

This has nothing to do with Jews. Weinstein is Jewish only by an accident of birth. He's an atheist.

  • Linda F.

The Bible is a threat to security, all right: the security of Michael Weinstein and every other person who refuses to believe in the existence of God and to put their trust in Him. What I mean is: If they weren't insecure in their atheistic POV, then they wouldn't devote so much time to violating the First Amendment rights of people who disagree with them. They're bullies, plain and simple. And bullies are, at the end of the day, insecure people who intimidate and step on others in lame attempts to make themselves feel better and to appear stronger than they really are.

  • Cravczec

The church of Yeshua is in no danger what so ever. I never has been and never will be. The "gates of hell" will not prevail against it. No selective editing of the bible will change anything about the church of believers. The world, however, is in grave danger. The US in particular is under the judgment of YAHWEH and is in grave danger of self destruction. The Marxist Socialist Democrat party and their president Barack H. Obama are a direct assault and a punishment for the sins of the nation. No one has the ability to change the direction of this country and it will enter into final judgement and destruction, gauranteed.

    • Dennis

I use to think like this but i recently heard something and began to think about it and pray.I believe in fact YHWH has turned from us.He has abandoned us for we have turned from him and that,in my opinion,is far worse than being judged.Either way this country is heading to destruction and honestly it should be.I can only hope and pray that YHWH will turn from his wrath and use us once again as we are meant to be used

      • Cravczec

The end of the book has already been written and won't be changed. The world as we know it is doomed and the United States with it. The end of God's patience is upon us.

  • Mike

We must be failing at being good Christians to have the mess in this country we find ourselves in. Are we vocal enough NOW regarding the things that are happening? We allow Muslims into this country because its politically correct, even though we know what their agenda is, to take over and institute Shari law! We have endorsed a community organizer to be the leader of this once great nation, squandering EVERYTHING that so many have given their lives to secure! We don't speech up when immoral types push their way of life on us in Hollywood and we have allowed our freedom to be infringed upon by our so helpful government. Shouldn't we say enough of this immorality that is bringing our nation down! Get back in the closet if thats your way of life but don't force it on ME! Also we need to shut down the atheist and ALL they are imposing on the majority! I'm pretty sure the Lord is'nt none too happy with this country, as we were given 911 and BHO.

    • jude456

Is it that we don't know to begin? Congress doesn't listen. Guess the Tea Party is the real source.

    • Cravczec

One thing I know about God's political economy and that is we are free to believe or not, to accept his gift or not. He has told us that there will be an end to his patience and he has also told us that believers are not going to be punished with the nonbelievers. What we are seeing is the final downward spiral, near the end where the swirl gets faster and the events come more quickly. He told us this would happen. We live in exciting times. The things that John saw in the book of the Revelation of Yehsua are happening all around us. Be happy. If you don't make it out alive it will only hurt for a minute. Might be a long minute but the other side will be glorious indeed.

  • Vladimir

This is an article from an anti-war website. Anit-war groups want the U.S. to unilaterally disarm and not defend itself. Like insects they look for cracks into which they can infest and rot our society from within. This article is directed at the military's support of its troops' spiritual needs. It is probablity supported by the Open Society Institute, the Tides Foundation or any other of George Soro's Marxist non-profits.

  • Hawk

Response to Linda F. – so, in other words, liberals? Pray for them, and all of us. God Bless

  • msjallen

The ONLY reason why people no longer accept the teaching of God's Word is that they don't know it. It is not taught in many churches and if it is those who hear it don't apply it. It is not taught in the homes where it should start. Our country will continue to suffer because we have turned our backs to God for too many years.
2 Peter 1:20-21 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy (Biblical knowledge) was ever made by an act of human will (design, purpose), but men were carried along by the Holy Spirit who spoke from God.
I Peter 1:24-25 For, “ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF, BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.” And this is the word which was preached to you.

    • Vladimir

      Amen, msjallen.

  • bighoss

Weinstein might not be a likable person, but he is correct on the issue of church and state. The U.S. military has no business officializing any version of the Bible. Weinstein kicked the Air Force's rear all over the place on the matter of their rank theocratic activities at the Air Force Academy. He knows the law and the Constitution and is a useful patriot contending for the proper application of both.

    • Max Headroom

There is NO SEPARATION BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE in the U.S. Constitution or the Bill of Rights. It is being used as a tool by the left to remove all vestiges of Christianity from our country. Try reading a bit more history there BigHoss rather than being a fool tool of the left which you appear to be. Ignorance is not an excuse to spout off stupidity!

      • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

While it is true the exact words separation of church and state do not appear in the Constitution, the concept is certainly there. And even more important than it just a concept, we have the founders who discussed this issue when the country was initially formed.

        • CAmom

THe concept is not there either. The "Establishment Clause" is that the Government can not establish a religion NOR PROHIBIT THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF! The ~concept~is there because the founders were mostly from England where everyone had to belong to the Anglican church. They wanted freedom to be any religion they chose.

A lie repeated often enough (especially by teachers) will eventually be believed

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

The second part of the amendment, the Free Exercise Clause", is what the Christians try to hang their hat on in regards to be allowed to do anything in regards to their religion. However, the courts have generally ruled that while most individual religious exercise is allowed, this does not prohibit the government from passing laws that impact certain religious practices. The first case to examine this clause was Reynolds v. United States. This was a case dealing with the prosecution of a polygamist. He tried to argue protection under the Free Exercise Clause, but the court ruled against him.

Jefferson's Danbury letter has been cited favorably by the Supreme Court many times. In its 1879 Reynolds v. U.S. decision the high court said Jefferson's observations "may be accepted almost as an authoritative declaration of the scope and effect of the [First] Amendment."

    • preacher42

He may know the law, but he doesn't know the Constitution very well, as there is nothing in the wording to say anything about "church and state." That is a SC deal in 1947, Not from our Forefathers. God Bless the USA and the military, as I recivied a NT book when I was in.

      • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Odd then that the Founders were discussing the concept long before 1947.

At age eighty-one [therefore, in 1832?], both looking back at the American experience and looking forward with vision sharpened by practical experience, James Madison summed up his views of church and state relations in a letter to a "Reverend Adams": "I must admit moreover that it may not be easy, in every possible case, to trace the line of separation between the rights of religion and the Civil authority with such distinctness as to avoid collisions and doubts on unessential points. The tendency of a usurpation on one side or the other, or to a corrupting coalition or alliance between them, will be best guarded by an entire abstinence of the Government from interference in any way whatever, beyond the necessity of preserving public order, and protecting each sect against trespass on its legal rights by others." (Robert L. Maddox, Separation of Church and State: Guarantor of Religious Freedom, New York: Crossroad, 1987, p. 39.)

    • millergroup2

Where in the Constitution of the United States, does it say to separate church and state? Not there is it? Why do you put words where they do not belong? Oh I just saw this is bighoss……you know better!

      • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Why do Christians believe in the concept of the Trinity when that word is never used in the bible? Is it because the concept is there? The same holds true for the concept of separation of church and state in the US Constitution.

        • preacher42

The concept of the Trinity is in the Bible. It talks of the Father The Son and the Holy Spirit as being one, many times.

    • Evermyrtle

Why, big… do you say that? Did not you know that GOD owns the universe and everything in it. HE made it and HE supplied it and HE still supplies it. He could cut off the sunshine, the oxygen, everything without a moments notice, if and when HE choose. You will meet HIM face to face one day and you will bow down to HIM and proclaim that HE IS GOD.

      • bighoss

The fact that God creates and sustains the universe is one that I heartily subscribe to. That in no way obliges me to cast my lot with those who unconstitutionally attempt to impose theocratic encroachments into the military or any other areas of this nation's'government.

Work on getting yourself educated on the differences between apples and oranges, Everymyrtle.

It was Jews like Weinstien that persecuted the early church leaders like Paul and Peter and were the very type that cried out "crucify Him , crucify Him!" at the "trial" of Jesus. The devil will never be satisfied with Christians as long as we stand for Jesus. He doesn't want to get rid of military Bibles, he wants them all gone and will not rest until that happens. But, Praise God, Paul "saw the light", pray weinstein does also.

  • Frank D Harrisson

One: Weinstein does not know what he is talking about. Two: There is nothing in the US Constitution or the Bill of Rights that has any words on the separation of Church and State! Any person including those of a state agency can preach any religious terms everywhere and anywhere including in the military. All military units have Chaplains and Chaplin come from all denominations. I personally still have my Saint Joseph's prayer book that was approved by Cardinal Daugherty of Philadelphia USN Chief Chaplin. Weinstein please note that there are may Rabbis who are military chaplains as well. From the very beginning and before this nation became of being a God fearing people we relied on the Almighty to guide us including George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson. The US Constitution only states that the government cannot organize an official or state church. You see Weinstein, the US Constitution cannot contradict itself! You cannot have Freedom of Speech in one place and deny it elsewhere Sir, both religion and speech have equal weight everywhere. Go back to school and learn English Comprehension.

    • jude456

That's why it's so important for the commies in office to do away with the Constitution a piece at time. No constitution, no freedom of speech. Therefore no more Bibles. The devil is running rampant in our country deceiving and devouring all he can. His time is numbered so Satan is working over time. Can't believe what I read and see happening today in these United States all because of taking God out of everything…taking good out and putting in everything bad. Whoa, to the evil ones, God is not mocked.

    • RAL

The Bibles were sold at no cost to the government, and service members voluntarily purchased them. At no point were military members coerced or encouraged by their superiors to buy the books. They were simply for sale in the military exchange stores.

Things like this will keep happening to discourage us, bewilder us and cause us to question where God is in all of this. DON"T do it! God is right in the midst of it all. He is separating the tares from the wheat. The wind will blow the chaff away and what is left will be real and true. Overcomers: Stand tall. Hide the Word in your heart by memorizing a portion of it every day and meditate on it. We may be still here when they come to collect and destroy our Bibles. But if we have it in our heart, no man can take it away. Look up. Our Redemption drawth nigh! Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

Micky Weinstein, a Jew with no faith of his own to promote, hates Christianity with such passion that he would cut off his nose to spite his face. This is the miscreant who raised the ruckus at the Air Force Academy which destroyed the wholesome, godly, patriotic influence of the finest officers in the Air Force because they openly professed their faith in Christ. He led the efforts to the expenditure of thirty thousand dollars to construct a outdoor wicca worship site on Academy grounds to pacify a hand full of atheist, perverts and humanist.

    • bighoss

The "ruckus" raised by Weinstein at the Air Force Academy was a very necessary ruckus. Those officers who were involved in constitutional activity did far more than just profess their faith in Christ. Their theocratic encroachments resulted in a formal Air Force investigation that confirmed inappropriate activity. Weinstein is to be commended as a useful catalyst for that action.

And what do you personally know about the Acadeny beat down by anti-Christian bigots? The influence of Christians at the Academy was strong, which is what the bigots hated. Evangelical Christianity, unlike atheist,Muslims and other cults have never made conversions by threats, force or violence, but the Christian haters wanted them silenced. Wild charges were made of folk being "offended", so the Sec AF sent a retired Jewish Naval chaplain to make a study of what needed to be done. That Jewish chaplain was known as a bigoted anti-Christian by fellow Naval chaplains. The investigation, which uncovered no ethical misconduct, was a total hatchet job to drive the Christians out. Now you have atheist, witches and sexual perverts running rampant with Christians serving in fear that someone might accuse them of offending some ungodly pervert.

This gentlemans name says it all.So im not shocked at what he has to say.As far as seperation of church and state? Thats not even in the constituion it was taken from an obscure comment in a latter from one of the founding fathers and has been blown out of proportion for those who have agendas. That simple

Thomas Jefferson didn't see himself as writing a minor, unimportant letter because he had it reviewed by Levi Lincoln, his attorney general, before he sent it. Jefferson even told Lincoln that he considered this letter to be a means of "sowing useful truths and principles among the people, which might germinate and become rooted among their political tenets."

Other Founders also were using the expression as well.

"The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries." -James Madison

    • bighoss

By that, you probably are referring to the fact that his name is Jewish. Be advised, you bigot, that many Jewish citizens of this nation have been responsible for defending and advancing Constitutional protections for all citizens. And your silly stale about the lack of a constitutional provision concerning separation of church and state is old, stale, and untrue, as has been amply shown by others posting on this forum, but you and your fellow theocrats blithely ignore the reality of that and the holdings of the Supreme Court and continue to blither on with your guardhouse lawyer nonsense. Shame on you both for your anti-Semitism and for your shabby polemics!

I'm a 20 year U.S Army Vet. and I'm here to tell everyone, you don't mess with a soldiers faith in Christ and God if you want them to come back and still function in society. The Bible for many are a lifeline to Home, Family, and God's Security, screw with that soldiers lifeline, and you might as well dig a hole and bury them right now.

    • simon says

listen Dom…. don't take it too personal but the Holy Scriptures are for everybody, not just U.S Army Vets ok !
many a wayward man and woman have taken a great hold of this life changing book including myself .
do not spend your time and God's time bickering about who has or hasn't a right to it. remember the Parable of the Sower….while men slept the enemy of souls (Satan) came and stole the word . just be satisfied by being a good watchman
on the walls of Zion….and give thanks to our God that we still have access to this most precious book .
and obey Christ's command to go into all the world and preach the gospel . Mark 16:15 . GB.

Hitler did, indeed, hate the Bible. To him, Christians were 'The other Jews' but many a secular Jew became a Nazi.

You morons have slept and now your country is gone! The thugs, thieves and foreigners own it now! Your children and grand kids are in the government camps now! Family means nothing! Especially family like you people! You have been sleeping and brought this on yourselves and them! The kids are stupid and lazy and don't care! You morons have taught them that!!!!

I believe that the militery erred when they permitted their insignias to be imprinted on this particular Bible. Also the Bible can stand alone without comments, lessons, and man's doctrinal interpretations etc. which have been included in these Bibles. Bibles should be made available to our service personal, probably a variety of the good translations so each can pick the one he wants. As Dom observed the service personal need their lifeline. The Holy Spirit can use God's Word to bring faith and secure that faith.

How can they discuss a concept that does not exist? The mere fact that they were discussing it shows the idea has been around since the country was formed.

  • peter1589

Yawn! Just another ploy of satan to dissolve, dilute and divide and conquer Christianity by making yet ANOTHER form of the Bible which differs from all the other Bibles yet published. Exactly as he has divided and conquered all the sola scripturists ("Bible alone," if you don't understand the Latin) into over 38,000 different individualists, unique sects. Even notice that? Nope, didn't think so.

So, take it from a nominal Catholic who was gifted by God during his conversion that satan is a REAL entity, a horrifying monster of super-inhuman terrifying, thermonuclear hot and simultaneously liquid nitrogen cold (and that's the mere human standards I can convey to you all. Believe me, it is far more than exponentially greater a terror than what my words hold forth, and words cannot convey the terror the soul meets at death) intensity.

  • peter1589

Take a long look at John 6 and tell me if a single one of you is following that Eucharistic preamble. Unless you eat my body and drink my blood, there is no life in you. The Jews (and all protest-ants) rebuffed Our Lord for that statement, saying, "This saying is hard, who can hear it?"

If you're not Catholic, there is no salvation. No matter what you hope for, the Catholic Church is the only Church with all the Sacraments (all found in the Bible) necessary for salvation. God bless ya! Let the outrage begin!

6:55. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day.

6:56. For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed.

    • peter1589

6:57. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me: and I in him.

6:58. As the living Father hath sent me and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me.

6:59. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna and are dead. He that eateth this bread shall live for ever.

6:60. These things he said, teaching in the synagogue, in Capharnaum.

6:61. Many therefore of his disciples, hearing it, said: This saying is hard; and who can hear it?

6:62. But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them: Doth this scandalize you?

      • peter1589

6:63. If then you shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

If then you shall see, etc… Christ by mentioning his ascension, by this instance of his power and divinity, would confirm the truth of what he had before asserted; and at the same time correct their gross apprehension of eating his flesh, and drinking his blood, in a vulgar and carnal manner, by letting them know he should take his whole body living with him to heaven; and consequently not suffer it to be as they supposed, divided, mangled, and consumed upon earth.

6:64. It is the spirit that quickeneth: the flesh profiteth nothing. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

        • peter1589

The flesh profiteth nothing… Dead flesh separated from the spirit, in the gross manner they supposed they were to eat his flesh, would profit nothing. Neither doth man’s flesh, that is to say, man’s natural and carnal apprehension, (which refuses to be subject to the spirit, and words of Christ,) profit any thing. But it would be the height of blasphemy, to say the living flesh of Christ (which we receive in the blessed sacarament, with his spirit, that is, with his soul and divinity) profiteth nothing. For if Christ’s flesh had profitedus nothing, he would never have taken flesh for us, nor died in us nothing, he would never have taken flesh for us, nor died in the flesh for us. Are spirit and life… By proposing to you a heavenly sacrament, in which you shall receive, in a wonderful manner, spirit, grace, and life, in its very fountain.

6:65. But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that did not believe and who he was that would betray him.

Some of you? Like all PROTESTANTS, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and most Catholics, indeed all mankind.

peter1589 — taking the sacraments is NOT the way of salvation. Jesus was not talking literally but figuratively. When we are saved we are "baptized" in Him on the cross. There is only one way of salvation: believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Eternal salvation from sin, death and hell is the free gift of God's grace, and is based solely upon man's personal faith and belief in Jesus Christ. He voluntarily died as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins and arose bodily from the dead, thus guaranteeing our own resurrection to eternal life. This salvation is not received by, nor based on, any sacrament, merit, or good work on our part. This one who receives Christ's salvation is eternally secure.
