Israeli lawmaker tears up New Testament

An Israeli lawmaker has torn up a copy of the New Testament in front of cameras in his parliament office.

An aide says Christian missionaries mailed the Christian scripture to Michael Ben-Ari of the ultranationalist National Union Party.

Itamar Ben-Gvir said Ben-Ari, an Orthodox Jew, was enraged to receive the book, in whose name he says millions of Jews were slaughtered. Ben-Ari tore it up, he said, then posed for photographs with the destroyed Bible.

          he got it from a false prophet who read about the Mayan calender ends in December this year and shoehorned it into Revelation. than add that to Rosh Hashanah which will begin at sundown on September 16 this year which is the Jewish New Year. Jesus Christ will return when he returns and i believe many will be in for the shock of their lives in disbelief for it will not happen like they thought it would happen.

      It's literally a protest against the scourge of Hitler and his propaganda machine to use the scripture the way Satan would, same way as used by the Alinskyites, and the "Progressives," ad nauseum… also, his "truths" are found in the OT, Myrtle. They still recognize Mosaic Law, even though Jesus brought about some "new commandments." Jesus is meaningless to many in the world. I find this most disheartening as well, Myrtle.         Oh yes, I am very familiar with the OLD Testament. In fact I usually read it and then I read the New Testament, except when I am making comparisons. I usually read the Bible through once a year but I believe I will start studying specific parts now

The fundamental reason why communism fails is that their perception of who (or what) man is is way off.       I think you misunderstand the gesture! Are you horrified by radical jihad of Islam? Well, if you study Christian history, you will find that the Christians of yester-year were not all skittles and beer. He tore up the book that tells us to love our enemys and pray for them, so let's do so. As an Orthodox Jew, he lives by the Old Testament, an eye for an eye, where a disrespectful child gets stoned along with adulterers, homosexuals, etc. Pray for his enlightenment and don't let us Christians follow the Muslims with their Worship of the Koran. We don't worship the New Testament, we worship the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. So let's live it in truth and pity the misguided soul. If he takes his anger (to some degree justified when you think how many Jews were killed by Christians) out on a book, it's better than on a human being.

    Israeli needs to look to the God, Jesus of the bible. We as Christian are commanded thru the Word to pray for the peace of Israeli and the faithful honor Gods command to do so may all men come to see the offering of eternal life that only Christ are King can offer Peace to Israeli amen.

      NO, it could not have very well been an LDS (= Mormon = member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) missionary, so stop with the insults. We teach by the Holy Spirit, so a real LDS missionary would not have done it. Learn something about Mormons: the Mormon church is apolitical. They would not do as you say, "mail manuals" !!!

      In case you don't now what this means, it means contention is avoided completely, and debate if necessary proceeds with respect on both sides. As I read you, you mean the same thing "start on common ground, not divisiveness!"

        I think he was simply making an analogy. In other words, a conservative Christian receiving a Book of Mormon or Jehovah's Witness text would have the same response as this man. It would be seen as offensive. He wasn't saying that such an act would ever, or ever did, occur, just what the result would be if it did.

            I Peter 3:15: "…but sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: being ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear"

            The instruction in this passage is obviously NOT satisfied by simply telling someone that it is an "internal thing" that they would not understand.

    Oh my gosh, now we are going to have Christians in the United States and around the world rioting, looting, throwing stones, and killing eachother because of this horrific offense to their God, with Christain pastors issuing fatwas against the life of this enemy of YHWH… NOT!!!!!

    And why not? Because Christians are secure in their faith and in their God. They know that God actually loves this man even though He may hate the offense. Christ, in some of his last words on the cross asked the Father to forgive those who were crucifying him. Can followers of Christ do any less? And THAT, friends, is a major distinction between Christianity and Islam.

True followers of the Torah and the Gospels are together disgusted by the actions of both parties here. Neither Moses nor Jesus would approve and we know well the God we share does not, either.

Jesus in Revelation says that these Israelites that deny Christ are of the synagogue of Satan. There is no distinction now. You either accept Jesus or you are lost–Jew or Greek.       Yes, as a Disensationalist I still say Israel is still God's chosen people. There are too many scriptures that have not been fulfilled regarding the Jews. It doesn't matter what they do to protest Christianity or Jesus Christ or what we believe it has to do with God's Word and how He will deal with them in the Tribulation and come to their rescue at the Battle of Amaggedon at the end of the Tribulation. Then He will set up His Kingdom in Jerusalem on the throne of David for 1000 years. The Church is not Israel and Israel is not the Church. The fig tree being cursed means the gospel of salvation will be given to the gentiles for a period of time while Israel suffers through the 5th Cycle of Discipline. Daniel's 70th week has not been accomplished nor has Israel received their unconditional covenants given to Abraham, Isaac & Jacob or the Davidic Covenant. Now I know this is not going to change your mind and you will not change mine either.

        Christ has been and is to this day sitting on David's throne in Heaven. those covenants were fulfill in Jesus Christ. Daniel's 70th week was also fulfilled for just like it says in the middle of that week the Messiah will cause the end of sacrifices with his sacrifice on Cavalry on that first Good Friday 14th of Nisan in our year 30AD. we have been living in the millennial kingdom since 70AD when the Jewish temple was destroyed first by the Jews to prevent desecration of it by the Romans and then the Romans had to tear it apart for all the gold, silver, bronze, and iron that went into the cracks of the wall and floor just as Jesus predicted in the Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. God judged that generation of Jews just 40 years as predicted. God is done judging the Jews as a nation and now he judges them individually for their individual rejection of their Messiah.

    I'm married to a Jew, and I have some advice for American and Canadian Jews: as Christians, we tend to be naturally sympathetic to the cause of Israel. But you have some in your ranks, undoubtedly Orthodox Jews, who make it their business to team up with the ACLU and have every Nativity scene removed from the town squares, and to have Christmas trees taken down from city streets. Instead of just asking to put up a Menorah, they want to tear down every Christian symbol they see. So, I'm going to be blunt: this is ticking off a LOT of people, and you're losing a LOT of support. So have a word with your fellow Jews and ask them if they really want to alienate the Christians in North America who have been supporting Israel. It's something they need to think about, because Israel doesn't need to lose the USA and Canada as friends!

    Israel as the "chosen" nation still has it's heart darkened. The Covenant is not valid according to the Jewish' accepting it or rejecting it, but by the trustworthyness of God. God is faithful to His Covenant with the Hebrew people as He is faithful with those who have accepted His Son Jesus Christ; not according to our faithfulness but according to His faithfulness. I am glad that Scripture says that Israel will be saved in a "day". towards the end of Jacob's Trouble or the Great Tribiulation.     When I was stationed in Iraq, I bought a Koran so when someone quoted something out of it I could go to the source and read it. I didn’t tear it up, but compare it to the Holy Bible. I have the Book of Mormon so I can research a scripture in the Bible vs. the book of Mormon so I can see the conflict. I have the Tora and compare it with the Holy Scriptures, specifically the Kings James or New King James Bible. It is a shame this member of Parliment would use the New Testament to make his point in pubic as if to get his name in the news rather than use it as a tool to see the difference or the comparrison between the Old and New Testament and maybe he would see where they are entertwined rather than conflicting. There are Apostles in the New Testament, not just one, that shows how from our heritage has gone from Adam to Jesus that Jesus is the Son of God. But we are living in the last days and the Bible says we will know not the day or hour of his return, but we would know the season and we are living in the season right now. Especially with things like this happening, our national leaders declaring something that is an abomination unto the Lord to be okay, the slaughter of millions of His children every year, weather signs, and other signs of the times. Lift up your trumpet Gabrial and get ready for His shout as He did when He said, ”Lazarus, come forth” and Lazarus came out of the grave. God keep us strong during these final days before you return.

      I suggest you also purchase the Vulgate or Latin Bible as used by the Roman Catholic Church. The original Byzantine Bible was written in Latin and from this comes the Vulgate which in turn was translated into English and reinterpreted as the King James Bible. If you are looking for passages that are closest to the originals turn first to the Vulgate.

    There are many Jews in America who have accepted Jesus as their Savior and have formed Messianic synagogues.Unfortunately, there are none in Israel, because the Israeli government passed a law that any Jew who accepts Jesus is no longer a Jew. This absurd reasoning ignores the fact that Jesus' original disciples were ALL Jews, as were most of the early Christians in the first century. The modern-day government of Israel is based on Old Testament Judaism and rejects Jesus as the Messiah. The only way for a Jew to be fulfilled is to accept Jesus as the Messiah. Any form of Judaism which rejects the Messiah is just as false a religion as Islam is.

    The Jewish people knew that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah they had been waiting for, for about 1200 years and when he came, they rejected Him before the whole word, some of them are still waiting for Him. Until they see Him they will not believe in Him. When they rejected Him the first time, they sealed their own fate.

    It is against the law in Israel to proselytize Jews. Doing so can land you in jail or prison or get you sent home, never to be allowed to return to Israel. That law is quite understandable from the perspective of Jews.
    The people sending a NT to a Jew was a foolish thing to do and ineffective witness. The effective way to witness, including in Israel, is to befriend the person/people with whom you want to share the Good News Gospel message. Establish a personal, caring relationship with them; then they are much more likely to listen to and accept your message.
    A remnant of Jews – those who accept Jesus as the Christ, Messiah, their Savior – will survive to live eternally in the grace and mercy of the Lord, God, Jesus the Christ in Heaven. All others, including Jews, will perish.

I just signed up for Disqus and created a profile there similar to my IntenseDebate profile (same username), and I see that in the dashboard it allows you to subscribe to comments plus I don't need to fill in the form on each post just like IntenseDebate.     It means nothing to him but it does mean something to others. Why is respecting the rights of another so difficult? I had jews on a pedestal as I believed them to be the chosen people. However my interactions over the last few years have eroded that.

      The Jews WERE a chosen people through whom God sent his Son for the salvation of the lost. But the concept of Jews as chosen people has now been corrupted to an an un-Biblical fantasy, contaminated with dispensational premillennialism, that looks to the "end times" restoration of Old Testament worship, including even the return to animal sacrifices. Some folks just need to read that New Testament book, Hebrews, and especially chapter 9, and get their minds right on this matter.

    Some need to remember you can not accept the New Testament without accepting the Old Testament. A few need to also remember you can not hope to begin to understand Revelations without reading Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel and not the least The Holy Spirit. Next it's only a book. I don't believe he was attacking Christianity as much as in his own mind was personally attacking Jesus. All to his own detriment. My prayer is that Jesus convict his heart.

    The Israelites, or Jews in todays venacular, are GOD's chosen people, according to the Bible and Torah. Not being recognized as a Jew, this makes me jealous and envious, and wonder why GOD would not choose me also, but then wondered what GOD chose the Jews for? Having been in Israel a few times, I asked this question of those who confirmed they were GOD's chosen, but could not explain why, until asking an old American Rabbi who had emigrated to Israel, and who had belonged to many different religions during his travail as a youth. He explained that the Jews were chosen by GOD to be a 'Light unto the World' and bring 'Salvation to Mankind', which these very things are explained in the Bible and Torah. Not wanting to embarras the good Rabbi, I refrained from asking him how the Jews have fulfilled this expectation of being chosen for, for I knew that this is exactly what Jesus and His Apostles and Deciples have fulfilled, and have created the largest religious group and belief in the world, showing the people of the world the light of truth and attempting to bring salvation to them all, and they have done all this through the 'New Testament' of the Bible, unfortunately exactly what this Jew, who is an Israeli legislature, tore-up and denounced, how ironic is that?

    One needs to know especially Christian's that you cannot approach the Jewish people and say "Here read this, and you can be saved", for it was by that same New Testament, and by so called Christians that the Jewish people were sent to the gas chambers, tortured, and killed, and their bodies piled in heaps upon each other. This is how they looked at Christianity, and they need to be approached in a gentle manner if we are to show them the who the real Messiah Yeshua is. There eyes have a veil over them, and the Lord has slowly been removing it, but in that final day the veil will be removed and they will know that Messiah Yeshua is their true Messiah. No matter what they do and say they are still God chosen people, and their nation is chosen land. In Joel 3: 1 we read, "For behold, in those days and at that time, when I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 – I WILL also gather ALL nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I WILL enter into judgment with them there on account of My PEOPLE, My heritage ISRAEL, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also DIVIDED up My Land." This includes America for our government has also been involved in agreeing to divide up their land, and the Gaza stripe was part of the deal. If America and other nations, and our families want to be blessed God has told us how that can happen for He said, "I WILL bless those who bells you (Israel), and I WILL curse him who curses you; and in YOU All the families of the earth SHALL be blessed" (Gen. 12:3). God means what He said, and just because 6,000 years has passed since Genesis doesn't mean that the God has changed His mind on anything that He said, and He what He said He would do, He will do. We are living in the times of the Gentiles, and the Jewish people will soon see who their Messiah really is, and we must remember that His word tells us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and the Messiah is their only peace for He is Peace.

      Call it "Replacement Theology" or whatever else you might wish to call it, but the New Testament is clear to the point that the "Israel" of God in our era is spiritual Israel. There will be no restoration of temple worship in the "end times." Read Hebrews chapter 9 and see where God has abolished the Levitical system. Read Romans 9 also.

        Right on Brother! They are confusing something they call "Replacement Theology" with Expansion Theology. The truth of God's word is no longer mostly limited to that little strip of land just east of the Mediterranean sometimes called "the Holy Land." The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof. People from every kindred tongue and nation have been grafted in. "If ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (Galatians 3:29). We are not measured by pedigree, but through the election of grace. The new covenant grafting in is channeled in by faith. and even then, "that is not of yourselves: the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8).

        Today the door of salvation is open to Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists and every other Christ-rejecting culture. Our job is to faithfully proclaim the whole council of God in the wake of the gospel of His kingdom to every culture. The success is in God's hands who will not fail, "For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea" (Habakkuk 2:14).

    This is a common misconception: That The Bible itself is the cause of all conflict. But it is the NON-conformist s to God's Words that are the peace-destroyers, not God and His Words! As 95% of "Christian" churches no longer follow God's Laws (or are mistaken or confused by other's ideas) then we can say that "Christianity" therefore (as practiced by the Majority) is not quite all there yet. Jews are not exactly there yet either: which is why they suffered the "holocaust" in Nazi Germany. (only a few got out of Germany having understood the prophecies and acted on them as Noah and Moses had done). Muslims went wrong somewhere after AD700, from originally following the first 3 books of the OT. The Catholic church is the result of Sun-Worshippers having cunningly hijacked the original Christian Roman Church from 231AD. Relics of the Sun-God still are visible, and have become implanted in the majority of today's churches. So, the NUP is also disobeying God, by not educating themselves about the very same SAVIOUR that saved his ancestors from the annihilation of all Jews in Jerusalem starting 70AD. That is where they go wrong. God's Laws were to be kept so simple so even a child could comprehend it's idealism.

    Okay, okay, let's don't turn this into a Jew-bashing time here. He was wrong to tear up the NT. But it was insensitive of whoever mailed it to him. It accomplished nothing. If you are trying to witness to a Jew, pray for God's timing and discernment. A wonderful book to give or send to a Jewish person would be Sid Roth's "They Thought For Themselves". But be sensitive to God's leading before even sharing that.
    I'm a conservative, Spirit-filled and committed Christian, but I can understand this deep-seated mistrust of Christians that is still found in many orthodox Jews. Someone brought and showed to me a cross…a CROSS!..with a…are you ready…swastika on it! It was a WWII artifact. It was what the Germans presented to mothers who lost their sons in the war, of all things! I was horrified. I wouldn't touch it..Even worse..it was white and blue..Israel's colors!
    I demanded that the thing be taken out of my sight. But it made me realize how the Jewish people can still maintain this mistrust of Christians, as grievous to me as it is. But nevertheless, I fully believe that Christians are instructed and expected by God to love and support Israel and to accept God's plan for them. And that, in them,all the nations of the world have been, and will continue to be, blessed.
    To those of you who think God is finished with Israel and don't believe He has a specific plan for them in these End Times..stay tuned.

    There is always a tit for a tat. If one would follow the teachings of heavenly father and Jesus, we would have respect for the differences. We are all on our own journey while in this earth life. As long as they are not harming you, respect will make you a better person. We are taught to love our enemies as well tho I've personally not been able to achieve that. Perhaps when I'm ready to pass to the other side, I will have learned the concept.
