And to make it abundantly clear, Peter tells them that no one made them sell the property, so it would have been no sin if they hadn't. He then adds that no one made them pledge the proceeds of the sale, so it would have been no sin if they hadn't. Their sin was pledging the proceeds and then going back on their word, and beyond this, lying to God and to the Church by claiming they had given the full proceeds despite withholding it.
The move to Socialism, is in full swing in many churches. You hear the feelings used, to forget the facts, like those who talk about Jesus sitting down with sinners, yet His last words were always, "Go and sin no more." Not a request, but a command.
It is easy to pick and choose verses, to accomplish agenda's, when you take them out of content and context, and Jesus even warns that within the church, many are not His, though in many pulpits and pews, they will sit side by side.
During the days of Jesus, the biggest hypocrites, that used these tactics, were the Pharisee's, and Jesus called them out on it. The religious 'leaders' that were the governing force behind Jewish Law, would manipulate to their advantage.
I came across this short video, and it explains the energy behind Socialism pretty well.

I think the biggest problem we come across, is when we can easily quote or paste scripture, to define what we are trying to say, but the Bible warns us words, without action in our lives and hearts, are just words, and are, in so many ways, in my opinion like 'lukewarm water' or sitting up on a picket fence, so we don't have to pick sides.
In our mindset, that is being neutral, like a politician voting 'present' instead of yes or no...but to God, that has no value, no standing, no action and serves no purpose.
I know I will make many mistakes, have many sins I have committed, and my heart is the true value that God wants and knows us by, as His or as Satan's. There is no picket fence. There are only two choices in the end, and many will be misled, by slick words, slick politicians and the values this lying world goes by.
Getting into an argument over this, however, is not what we are led to do. To waste 'Pearls to swine' is not what Jesus tells us to do. In fact He warns we will get caught up, beat up and ripped up, by this worlds values, if we do. God Bless

I read something very interesting this morning about Obama's statement, "If you have a business, you did not build it". That the meaning is whatever you own, government education gave you that ability, and government built roads gave the means for customers to get to you, therefore it isn't yours, it is the governments; does that sound like communism to anyone but me? Just think of what happened to Russia under these same ideas and the fact that Obama told Putin that he had to be restrained until he won the next election; then he would be free to do what he wanted. God help us if he gets re-elected.

Also, please, look closely at the difference between voluntary giving as practiced by those first Christians in Jetrusalem and the taxation practiced by socialist governments. They are not the same. Also see Acts 5;4. Peter's statements clearly show that the money and the possession which had been sold, belonged to Ananias and Sapphira. There was NO obligation for them to give all or any of it to the apostles. God struck them for their LIES; not for any REQUIREMENT to give.

We should examine the portions of the book of Acts which some persons claim support socialism. A careful examination will show that, while early christians DID have an attitude of sharing that closely resembles a commune, there is a distinct difference between Christians holding property "in common" and GOVERNMENTAL socialism. Voluntary donations by Christians and coercied takings by tax collectors are two different things. Note in Acts 2: 44 & 45 the Christians were making VOLUNTARY donations to support the church. Also, in Acts 4; 32-37 the material posessions were given VOLUNTARILLY. No tax collecter taking things from his fellow Christians. In Acts 5; 1- 15 we are told of Ananias and his wife Sapphira. Some have assumed that God struck them down for not giving the entire amount from the sale of their possession to Peter. A careful examination of this passage will show that this is NOT so. Verses 3 and 4 clearly state, " But Peter said, 'Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land ? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own ? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power ? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart ? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God." Notice that the land and the money were both private property and that Ananias could have kept it all or given as much or as little as he pleased to the church. Ananias was punished for his LIE, not because of any requirement to give all the money. Peter's statements in verse 4 make this clear.
