Hotel replaces Bibles with Porn

Bibles in nightstands are a familiar amenity for hotel guests, but travelers seeking to read their favorite verse at one establishment will be in for a big surprise.

The Damson Dene Hotel, which touts itself as the perfect destination for a “peaceful break away from it all” in England’s picturesque Lake District, is making quite a noise for replacing the Bible with “Fifty Shades of Grey” in its 40 guest rooms.

The steamy novel — part of a trilogy by author E.L. James — has become a worldwide blockbuster thanks in large part to the graphic sex scenes that have its main characters engaging in bondage, sadomasochism and other exploits.

Damson Dene owner Jonathan Denby, who bought the hotel from a Methodist group 10 years ago, said he had been pondering for a long time what to do with the Gideons Bibles that had been placed in the rooms by the previous proprietors.

He decided that in a modern secular society it was “wholly inappropriate” to keep a religious book in people’s private bedrooms, so the search was on for a replacement.
“I was thinking originally of putting in a book by Ayn Rand — ‘Atlas Shrugged’ was my first thought,” Denby told NBC News.

On my next visit to England I will be sure I am not booked at their hotel.

    • Chris P

You probably don't even know where England is on the map. They don't need snotty Americans with a puritan attitude to life.

      • Evermyrtle

Everybody is not the same as are you Chris, He probably knows the Bible and England very well!!!

        • Paul Brown

It sounds like this idiot Chris P has no idea what the Bible is or what its about. I think he needs to pick one up and look through it a little and maybe learn something.

The bible is a book of fables as all religious texts are.

One does not have to answer to myths.

Every person will see clearly and can tell what is myth and what is not myth in Matt 25;32-34
            32. And before HIM shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats:

            Jeff,
If you do happen to check out both the Bible and Archeology you will find that it is also a pretty accurate text of Israeli history!

      • Tig

Looks like exactly no one agrees with you Chris.

      • LouiseCA

Since America prospered and became the greatest nation in the world due to being founded on Biblical principles and England has descended pretty much into a socialist darkness during the same period, looks like the puritan attitude may not be so bad. Right now, England is in the process of being over-taken by radical muslims because they have lost their moorings and don't know who they are, so I wouldn't brag too much, Mr. P.

What are these unique Christian values? They, of course, would not be found in any other religious or political system known in the world. I would be fascinated to know what these unique principals are.

          • WealthyNot

Jeffrey, The Christian faith is unique and different from all the world religions. It worships Jesus Christ, Emmanuel (God with us). He was virgin born of Mary and without sin. He preached his message for three years and was crucified as the atonement for men's sin. On the third day, He was resurrected, seen by hundreds of witnesses, ascended into heaven back to His (and our) heavenly Father. These witnesses told the world of Him and His message, most losing their lives proclaiming His message. Jesus Himself said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one can come to the Father but by Me." C.S.Lewis I think was who famously said that Jesus was either a liar, a deceiver, or the Son of God. Jesus cross stands as the hinge of all of history. The B.C. and A.D. calendar is universal in the world. I urge you to find a study Bible to investigate its claims from a real scholar. My favorite is by John MacArthur, and it is available in any Christian book store. There are others. May our Lord and His Holy Spirit help you in your search.

            The basic teachings and lives
of the Buddha and the Christ are remarkably similar. However, Buddha was born
            600 years before Jesus.

            Buddha was born of
the virgin Mahamaya, who was considered the "Queen of Heaven." Dean
Milman, in his "History of Christianity," stated that "Buddha,
according to a tradition known in the West, was born of a virgin" (Vol.
I, p. 99, note). Mary and Mahamaya all gave birth to their children among
strangers. He was visited by wise men who recognized the divinity of the
child. He was of royal descent and his birth was announced by a star.

            Werner's
Encyclopedia, in its article on Buddha speaks of "the marvelous stories
which gathered round the belief in his voluntary incarnation, the miracles at
his birth, the prophecies of the aged saint at his formal presentation to his
father, and how nature altered her course to keep a shadow over his cradle,
whilst the sages from afar came and worshiped him."

            Both Jesus and
Buddha were presented in the temple as infants for baptism. The hymns uttered
at both annunciations resemble each other.

            Both in childhood
            discoursed before teachers.

            Jesus and Buddha
were considered to be divine beings. Buddha is regarded by the Hindus as the
ninth incarnation of the deity Vishnu, following Krishna. But Buddha started
a new religion which did not emphasize "gods," but rather how
people can become "awakened" or "enlightened" to liberate
themselves from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth."

            The mission of both
Buddha and Jesus was proclaimed by a voice from heaven.

            Both fasted in the
wilderness and were tempted. Supernatural beings ministered to each of them.

            Both called their
disciples with the command, "Follow me." Both sent out disciples to
spread their teachings. Both performed miracles and wonders, healed the sick,
fed five hundred men from a "small basket of cakes," and walked on
            the water.

            Buddha was
"about 30 years old" when he began his ministry. He fasted
"seven times seven nights and days." He had a "band of
disciples" who accompanied him. He traveled from place to place and
"preached to large multitudes." Bishop Bigandet calls his first
sermon the "Sermon on the Mount." At his Renunciation "he
forsook father and mother, wife and child." His mission was "to
establish the kingdom of righteousness." "Buddha," says Max
Mueller, "promised salvation to all; and he commanded his disciples to
preach his doctrine in all places and to all men." "Self-conquest
and universal charity" are the fundamental principles of his religion.
He enjoined humanity, and commanded his followers to conceal their charities.
            "Return good for evil"; "overcome anger with love";
"love your enemies," were some of his precepts.

            A converted
courtesan, Mary Magdalene, followed Jesus. A converted courtesan, Ambapali,
            followed Buddha.

            It is said that he
crushed a serpent's head. This is also a Messianic prophecy described in
Genesis in the Garden of Eden.

            He abolished
idolatry, was a "sower of the word," and preached "the
establishment of a kingdom of righteousness."

            He taught chastity,
temperance, tolerance, compassion, love, and the equality of all.

            The story of the
ruler, Nicodemus, who came to Jesus by night, has its parallel in the story
of the rich man who came to Buddha by night.

            Both proclaimed
kingdoms not of this world. The eternal life promised by Christ corresponds
to the eternal peace, Nirvana, promised by Buddha.

            Both were
            transfigured on a mount.

            Both made triumphal
entries, Christ into Jerusalem, and Buddha into Rajagriba.

            Buddha was
considered the "good shepherd, the "carpenter, the "infinite
and everlasting." Buddha was called the "savior of the world,
"light of the world," Supreme Being, and the eternal one.

            There is a legend
of a traitor connected with each.

            Buddha is to
return to Earth again to restore the world to order and happiness

As usual you are full of BS Jeff and Sedartha (Buddah) is NOTHING like Christianity. Buddah can't compare to Jesus Christ or Christianity. • KentPerry

Jeff where do you hallucinate I am upset about ANYTHING? As for your wishful thinking that I'm gay, sorry Hoss, we have gone over that too and just because I am against Gay marriage doesn't mean I'm gay. I'm against pedophilia too, that doesn't mean I'm a pedophile moron but this was about Buddha and I not about gay stuff. Must you always change the subject when you are wrong Jeff.

The way you attempt to lash out with your inane comments shows you are an extremely angry person. Often one finds that the basis for this anger is a realization that the person exhibits the very tendency they are upset with. It would not surprise me in the least to find out you are gay.

I love to go to their lectures because they do not claim to know the meaning of ANY scripture and what they do on a very sophisticated level, just the thing you like to do..That IS the way their religion is actually practiced on a day to day basis. I know, my closest colleague was Calvinest. I am really surprised that all this time Despe has not l "taught" you what he does in a serious manner. Though he may be one of the less "fully educated" ones… It is definitely an ongoing process for life. It is the only Christian church to require a Ph. D. that is how austere it is. Despe may not have gotten that far and therefore, lacks confidence. I could be wrong about him, but I am not wrong about Calvinists. The link on your rational response site on Calvinism could be a start for you, if you want to see what I am taking about… Another: see Westminister Reformed Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania.
            ## [and I know a lot about churches from personal encounters. He does not see that Christians actually follow any sort of real morality.

          • http://www.answersingenesis.org/ keyboardshark

Then he is looking at the wrong "Christians". Anyone can call themselves a "Christian" and then behave badly, in which case it does appear that many "Christians" are not really practicing what they preach. But anyone who is truly born again will be, not perfect, but far more likely to have high moral standards than average, and those moral standards will be based on the Bible. Otherwise, the person is simply fooling themselves that they really are a Christian.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

It is based on the bible, which shows no actual morality whatsoever.

          • http://www.answersingenesis.org/ keyboardshark

It does if you read it.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

If God sets the standards for morality, he has done a lousy job of it. He commands people not to kill, but then orders people to kill in his name. He wipes out all of humanity in a flood, with the exception of 8 people. I know Christians believe that God can do anything he wants to mankind since he created us, however, that argument does not hold up. We expect authority to be better than the rest of us. God should not only be better, he should be infinitely better. He should not be petty or frustrated or angry. These are human characteristics and God is supposed to be better than humanity.

          • http://www.answersingenesis.org/ keyboardshark

You are confusing murder with killings that occur during war or as punishment for breaking the Law. The judgement of the Flood was a result of mankind's utter corruption in sin. The only reason Noah and his family was saved was because of God's mercy and grace.

"5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord."
            Genesis 6

God is not petty and never gets frustrated, but He does get angry at sin. It is a righteous anger that is justified because of mankind's willful disobedience to his Creator's commands.

"God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. "
            Psalm 7:11

This differs from the anger most commonly expressed by humans, which is usually a result of frustration, selfishness, or pride, none of which God is troubled with, because He is perfect. He is also omniscient and omnipotent, so there is nothing that would surprise Him or that is outside His control, hence He would have no reason to be frustrated.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

Nonsense. as 2 Kings 2:23-24 shows:

"And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them"

This was not war or breaking any laws.

          • http://www.answersingenesis.org/ keyboardshark

Then you are assuming that Elisha could talk to bears. Or that God could talk to them. I thought you didn't believe in miracles :)

It is clear that they insulted the prophet in this incident. Plus, we do not know what they had done in the past, either. This may have been the culmination of a long line of personal attacks or other sins, and finally the Lord had had enough of them. There is simply too little information to know exactly what was going on and what may have occurred in the past leading up to this incident.

Or the bears attacking could have simply been a coincidence. It does not say that there was a direct link between Elisha's curse and the bears attacking. It simply says he cursed them, and then "there came forth two she bears out of the wood".
It doesn't say, "And then the bears hearkened unto the voice of Elisha, and came forth…" Nor does it say, "And then the Lord sent two she bears…". The connection between the two is only assumed, not a clear cause-effect relationship.

Puritan is a keyword, true, also see Calvin, Geneva Bible. To understand the seeds of freedom the Puritans planted, a very good read fast forward 200+ years is 1776 by David McCullough… keyword: George III. Also pick up McCullough's John Adams, because once you read 1776 you will want more details .. it is the reality of what you are dealing with when you deal with Americans.
George III thought of us as his children and he was our savior, God's representative on Earth, Head of the Anglican Church, right Chris? He couldn't fathom why "the colonies" did not to want his protection, besides he had discovered how vast the natural resources were and he wanted to tax us into slavery. (boo hoo) We are told he actually cried about it. Find out what type people came here to start SLAVERY, which we are paying for now and will for many years.
WE don't have a monarchy in this country. The basis of our lives is not supposed to be a monarchy, like England. We like our U. S. Constitution.
"power to the people" ~Laura Ingraham

        • Ithamar

We are paying for the arrogance of you benighted yankees who first labored to destroy the more righteous nation states of the South, and then, have compassed the world around seeking to make more disciples into people like yourselves and "set them free" from their non-yankee ignorance, and when you have found them, you have made them twice the children of hell than when you found them. Not that I am prejudiced, mind you.

          • UF Gator

I had no thought that you're prejudice. You said that. It was in your mind. Am I hearing you right, that you argue for a reestablishment of the monarchy? That is my premise for the comment which you have criticized: to abolish any dreams of a monarchy in the office of the president of the United States.

No, my first thought was as I read your comment: I am no "Yankee" if you are referring to "Yankee" in the context of the civil war! Nor am I a member of THE Southern monarchical classes who instituted and perpetuate slavery.
And as to the "more" righteous South, I would argue that point, for I believe the righteousness can only be defined by individual accountability and the propensity to live your individual life as though it matters that your community makes some progress, not "THE SOUTH" as a region. And progress to me is the opposite of passing on government dependence as though it is in your DNA.
THE South has to get over any attitude of preeminence in terms of many things: and if you don't believe me look around. What you see is NOT a region of preeminence but a region that is leading in the numbers of poverty stricken families: food stampers, of abortions for all colors and classes by younger and younger females, of the consequent massive ingrained education issues, I could go on…, more like YOUR "twice the children of hell" than I have engendered… the current presidential administration is working hard to level that playing field and put the entire country in that category of dependence… ergo, a family legacy of dependence on government, and thus upon overburdened hard-working Americans.
You don't want to compare your work ethic to mine. I have not a doubt in my mind, I would win in the comparison. The government coffers are not a bottomless pit of money, but my children, their children, generations down the road etc etc, i.e. the "working" people with strong work ethics are carrying the load of such decadence. You won't find me blaming the working people, if that makes me a "Yankee" in the sense of a Protestant work ethic, which begins with the Puritans of the New World, where there was no slavery, then so be it.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

            No, not prejudiced. Just absurd.

Thank you for your truthful nature, Mr. Dixon

      • Ithamar

Chris, should you know where England is on the map, your ignorant statement reveals that you have never been there. The one thing that England does need, which brought it to its once status as the worlds must influential and powerful nation, was the Evangelical Protestant Christian faith founded solely upon the Bible.

        • UF Gator

founded solely on the Geneva bible (there's a difference)

Just remember that Christ allegedly taught ethics. And Chris is looking for answers, his main objection being hypocrisy of Americans.

        Chris,
What's snotty about wanting to read a book that teaches morality instead of sadomasochism and aberranrt sexual pracitces? Remember, it's the latter that brought the human race syphillis, gonorrhea, AIDS, genital herpes, cervical cancer and some other diseases too dreadful to mention. Yoe evidently leave your brain unengaged when you spew some of your hatred!

    • Evermyrtle

If I ever make it to England I will ask at the desk, "Do you have a Bible in the room that I can have one to read, I'm afraid I forgot mine?"

  • http://www.facebook.com/jimjih Jim Holbrook

If I ever visit England this is one motel I would avoid. My wife and I spent three nights in a Holiday Inn Express in Greensboro, NC last weekend, and the first thing I noticed was that there was a Gideon Bible in the room.

    • Jeff Dixon

Really, you noticed the bible before seeing that the room had a tv, a bathroom or a bed right in the middle of the room???????

      • UF Gator

It's one of the first things I notice, Mr. Dixon!

        • Jeff Dixon

Since they are normally kept in a drawer, that is pretty amazing.

I use my x-ray vision to see the Gideon's Bible in the drawer even before I enter the hotel room :-)

          • Annie

I don't know what motels, hotels you use but the ones I have used leave them on the little table between the beds. But again, I can't help to wonder what your problem with the availability of the Bible or where to find the Bible bothers you.

          • http://www.answersingenesis.org/ keyboardshark

I'm 100% in favor of having the Bible available in hotels. I was simply making a joke in reply to Jeff's comment. You would have had to read his comment to 'get' it. Guess I'll stick to my day job since there is apparently no future for me as a comedian.

I travel quite a bit for business Jim. I too look for the Bible as one of the first things I do. It comforts me to see it and know that the Gideons are still allowed in the motel. If there is not a Gideon Bible, I will look for a different motel next time I stay in the area.

Chris P: According to your definition, broad-minded, intelligent, tolerant people are those who enjoy smut. That is essentially what you are saying, if we reverse engineer the language of your personal attack against those who have high moral standards. Why are YOU so intolerant of others who don't hold your low standards of morality?

      • UF Gator

Chris you love us so much.

      • UF Gator

You are beyond the pale with that remark Chris P. And you know very well, these good people you have addressed again and again with your bad manners don't deserve your treatment … tell me a little about yourself, I already know you are insufferable and inconsolable, perhaps you are representative of your country?

Also, why do you want people to tolerate you. We are Americans, actually we don't have to tolerate you. We just have to obey the laws of the U, S. Constitution. You have the same freedoms we all have to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So what's your problem… I can only guess at this point. If you are talking about tolerate in the sense we have to listen to all your private life…. you know what I mean… well in America whatever you do, do it without our knowledge, don't disobey any laws, and we will never hear about all the stuff y'all seem to want to share with us. Am I oversimplifying this. Please let me know. Think about it Chris P.

I agree, this is a sign of our society, and what is happening to the morals, in our world, something must be done, and hopefully people will wake up, and see the light. We are headed back in time, to the days of the Roman Empire.

Make sure to stay out of bookstores, libraries and museums. All
sorts of naughty pictures and books can be found there as well. For matter, why
are you on the internet? It is chock full of naughty pictures and books.

Jeff says: "Make sure to stay out of bookstores, libraries and museums."

I don't stay overnight in bookstores, libraries and museums with my family. The internet only gives you what you tell it to give you.

            Hi Jeff

Nothing requires people staying at the hotel to read the book either.

          • Ithamar

Well Jeff, please be assured that the hyperbolic musings of an obnoxious, arrogant atheist are not amusing.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

Well, if one shows up, let them know of your concerns.

          • UF Gator

obnoxious, arrogant Ithamar? You don't know to what category Mr. Dixon truly belongs. You really have to be more careful with your derogatory terms.

          • http://www.answersingenesis.org/ keyboardshark

True, but if I am at the hotel with my family, one of my children might find it. Or I might find the porn book myself and be tempted to look at it. Even though I consider myself a born-again Christian, I know that I am still not beyond temptation, because my sinful nature is still at least partially present, so why set myself up for possible sin by staying in a hotel where there is a source of powerful temptation? Better that the temptation is not present at all.

" Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body."
            1 Corinthians 6:18

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

Key, it is one hotel, in England. The odds of you or your children finding this book there are so small as to be non-existent. However, it is entirely possible that you or your children might find yourselves in a
bookstore, library or museum. Since you are so concerned about porn, these locals are much more of a concern. Yet you focus on a place you will probably never frequent, and dismiss places that you or your kids will most likely actually visit.

          • http://www.answersingenesis.org/ keyboardshark

It may only be one hotel now, and you are correct that neither I nor my family will probably ever go there in my lifetime. But that's how these things get started. First it's one, then another, then dozens, and then it makes its way across the pond to the USA, and starts to snowball here. That is my concern, not simply that one hotel is doing it. If that was all the further it went, i.e. one individual hotel, I wouldn't consider it that big an issue. Disappointing, yes, but not something to get bent out of shape over.

Bookstores and libraries are usually organized by topic, so I could just avoid the aisles where porn is kept, and steer my children away from them as well. I'm not sure where I'd find porn in the typical museum, unless you are referring to nude statues, in which case I would not find it too terribly objectionable unless they were depicted in sexual positions. I could also visit a museum myself ahead of time to determine if there was anything I didn't want my children to see, and then either not take them there at all or steer them away from the objectionable displays.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

Given that it is not a chain of hotels, you can be pretty sure his idea will not spread. But let us assume it does. Across England and America and other countries that allow free expression of ideas, hotels all place this book in their rooms.

Are you really going to state that your views are so limited that this book could overwhelm them? Or that what you taught your children could be overwhelmed by this book?

I have taught my children how to understand the world. I do not care what point of view is thrown at them, I am comfortable they can work it out. If they read any book, I know it would not change who they are.

Isn't that the job of a parent?

    • Devasahayam

You had a good opportunity to visit England last week, for the Shropshire Retreat (too late now, it ended Sunday).

Call (020) 7738-3302 before you plan your visit (the number is to a bookstore in Brixton — the proprietor will probably have some good suggestions).

As against rape and child abuse in the Roman Catholic church. Hate for gays by the evangelicals.

      • LouiseCA

Not true. If anyone calls themself a Christian and the love of Christ is not in him, he is not walking with God. The hatred is coming from unbelievers and is being blamed on Christians.

      • American Gram

I believe most Christians "hate the sin and love the sinner".

        • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

They like to parrot that comment. Yet, when asked to remark on sinners, most call them disgusting and prefer to not interact with them.

          • UF Gator

I feel that way about Joe, Despe, Dion and little pony

The calvinists admit to being sinners.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

They state they are sinners, yet they also believe they know more than anyone else. In reality, they do not believe they are making any mistakes except in principle.

          • UF Gator

I tried to explain imputation. It is the basis of the very truth you have spoken. What do you mean "except"? If they had principle, that would imply caring, and they don't care about people. There are no exceptions to their belief that they are totally not accountable, they believe whatever there is to have is theirs, they believe they are right in all cases, etc. I have tried to justify this position for the sake of a friend who thought he was doing me a favor explaining it… but it is impossible. It is monarchal to the max and the Lutherans would have nothing to do with them. The term "Reformation" belongs to Martin Luther and not to them. And in New England when it was Joseph Smith's turn at it, he and his family saw through the fraud and left the Calvin Presbyterian tradition in which he had been tutored as a child. They hate Mormons because Mormons denied their existence as the church of Jesus Christ and rightly so. Why do you think Despe treats Vladimer and Mesaman the way he does?

The only defense is to tell them to stop working so hard to condemn everyone else because they think work is satan in action and they avoid work like the plague.

      • UF Gator

Chis P: You won't succeed in forcing people to do anything except disdain your attempt at whatever your complaint-of-the-day happens to be. As an American I am accountable for my own actions. I find you want to hold me accountable for the actions of others. How do you justify doing so?

  • Chris P

You people are nuts. One tiny hotel in England chooses a popular novel and you are all over them yet the State of Utah is the largest consumer of porn. Marriotts used to have continuous porn on tap. You accept violence and death on your own TV's and do NOTHING about.

You love people getting shot and dying on TV – you support the Socialist military and George Bush in the killing of tens of thousands of Iraqi's and you are worried about a hotel's choice of a book.

    Mad as a hatter.

    • jas

Wow, Chris. I'm not sure where your anger comes from, but you obviously have not met Christians who do live the example of Jesus Christ. If you did, you would know it is possible for Christians to hate sin and love the sinner. We don't claim to be perfect, and we also know we are under scrutiny from a skeptical world.
What is troubling is the hypocrisy the world sees in us, especially when it is accurate, but any true born again believer will never condemn another specifically because we aren't perfect. Yes we can hate sins the bible says is sin, such as homosexuality, yet we are to love those we believe are in sin as Jesus would.
What I would ask you, do you think the world is heading in a better direction in light of the daily news? Do you think removing God from every aspect of life is creating a more loving and peaceful society?
If you want to find failure in Christians, I absolutely guarantee you will, if you want to find hope, peace and forgiveness, look to Jesus.
      God Bless.

It would have been fine if they decided to add the book. What they did was replace the Bible with the book. That's the problem here.

The "Secular" society is really playing with their lives. Every knee will bow, and confess that Jesus is Lord one way or another. America is not far behind with blatant disregard of the word of God. Our lord has a temper, and he is about to let it be known. This world seems to think that because God has been patient with regards to putting forth His wrath, that He is weak, or maybe doesn't exist, are in for a big surprise. God is soon going to get pissed. Too bad it has to be this way, but he knew that the Secular society would mock Him. Get ready world………you are pissing God off.

    • LouiseCA

No, I wouldn't say that the Lord has a temper. He loves mercy, but His perfect righteousness demands justice and His Spirit will not always strive with man. So, yes, judgment is coming.

      • Evermyrtle

Well, HE did run the sellers out of the temple, with HIS whip!!!

      • millergroup2

        You must be Mormon?

        • UF Gator

      • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

You would not say your lord has a temper? Really???

The LORD is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and wrath. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and furiously destroys his enemies! The LORD is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet. At his command the oceans and rivers dry up, the lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wilt. In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence. The LORD is good. When trouble comes, he is a strong refuge. And he knows everyone who trusts in him. But he sweeps away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He pursues his foes into the darkness of night. (Nahum 1:2-8 NLT)

"The LORD is a jealous God" means the following …(Please suspend disbelief for a moment Mr. Dixon and just pretend you are the Lord, and Satan is the drug dealer down the street) The Lord wants all his chidren to choose Him rather than Satan!!! If we choose Satan, then He will deliver vengenance and wrath upon those who chose Satan. does that make sense?
"jealous" in the sentence means He will not like it at all if we choose Satan, He is very much wanting us to choose Him… now this is an argument for "free agency", "free will", freedom of choice. etc etc

At the base of all these ideas lies the concept of being all knowing. Supposedly the biblical god is all knowing. He therefore knew that the angel Lucifer would become Satan before he created Lucifer, yet he creates him anyway. Then he get angry when Satan performs evil deeds. If he is truly all knowing and all powerful, he is the most inept being in the universe.

          • UF Gator

Mr. Dixon, What I wanted to do is to imagine a hypothetical — I know it is the antithesis of your deeply held belief — I am extremely clear on that if nothing else — but Jeffery can we agree on this: We cannot prove WE know the all-knowing, all-powerful God's plans for His children?

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

In order for humans to grasp any concept, it MUST be in terms we can know. Otherwise, nothing makes any sense.

          • UF Gator

You have once again spoken a truth that I cannot deny. You are an idealist and I know you would be a perfect priest, once you realize your spiritual side, which I know you do not. : (

          • UF Gator

Mr. Dixon: Why can't we use my hypothetical to discuss this?

          • UF Gator

Jeff: Just because he is all knowing does not mean he is all controlling of his children. Don't you see that in your life? You are made in his image. Mary

Yet, you will find this mythical god of yours does nothing.

      • millergroup2

Tell him that, not us. After all you have learned all these months Jeff, you still use weak words here like "mythical"? Infinite regression 'member?

        • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

I cannot converse with a myth.

        • UF Gator

Jeff is searching for reason and trust. Christianity is based on faith and trust. He has no faith based in anything intangible like faith. He is at his best when deciding what action to take where our laws are concerned, where the laws are for everyone, where Evangelicals and Diests, for example, have protection and freedoms. Everyone of these forums is a type of problem which needs the kind of knowledge he enjoys exploring. These forum provide the perfect excercise of his reason and trust, that is Jeff.
A wise man once said: It is the greatest compliment to be trusted
I think exploring his reason at the same time he is exploring your Christianity is not too much to ask. I see it like this: the reason which he examines from which he finds his answers are all in the Father's handiwork. : ) I don't think it is diametrically opposed to my faith at all. I think the excercise builds trust and that, we all can appreciate.

I'm not conservitive like most christains are, I think for myself. Having a Bible and that Book both in each room sounds like good idea. Let the guest choose. And of course the TV. Most well watch TV, some well read that Book, a few maybe, might read the Bible. Myself, it's the TV. I wont even touch the Bible.

    • Barb

Yes, let the guests choose whether they want to end up in heaven or hell. Too bad you choose not to read God's love letter to you but then it is your choice.

      • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

Meanwhile, Sisera ran to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, because Heber's family was on friendly terms with King Jabin of Hazor. Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, "Come into my tent, sir. Come in. Don't be afraid." So he went into her tent, and she covered him with a blanket. "Please give me some water," he said. "I'm thirsty." So she gave him some milk to drink and covered him again. "Stand at the door of the tent," he told her. "If anybody comes and asks you if there is anyone here, say no." But when Sisera fell asleep from exhaustion, Jael quietly crept up to him with a hammer and tent peg. Then she drove the tent peg through his temple and into the ground, and so he died. When Barak came looking for Sisera, Jael went out to meet him. She said, "Come, and I will show you the man you are looking for." So he followed her into the tent and found Sisera lying there dead, with the tent peg through his temple. So on that day Israel saw God subdue Jabin, the Canaanite king. And from that time on Israel became stronger and stronger against King Jabin, until they finally destroyed him. (Judges 4:17-24 NLT)

What you call a love letter, many would call the police for a restraining order if they received it.

    • Xman3

The article above said "replacing the Bible with Fifty Shades of Grey”, so I would conclude that there is 'not a choice' between the Bible or this novel. If a hotel wants to include in a room, or in the common area of the hotel a small library that if fine, but leave the Bible in the nightstand. Hopefully the decision of the owner of this 40 room hotel will not catch on.

  • an american

HOPEFULLY THAT PEOPLE VISITING THE AREA WILL CHOOSE ANOTHER HOTEL AND FINANCIALLY BURDEN THEM TO CLOSE THEM DOWN!!!!!

The hotel manager is pretty presumptious in his assertion that "everyone is reading" those books, since some of us don't comsume garbage in any of its forms.
He'll be sorry. If not in this life, then in the next. I say ignore him.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

It is presumptuous to assume "everyone" would like to read the bible.

      • UF Gator

True, so many are attuned to the meme, more so than the pleasures and rewards from the Father as we exercise our rational thought, is that right Mr. Dixon?

        • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

I would simply say that out of a world population of over 7 billion, the 2 billion Christians are the minority. (Actually, since Protestants do not consider Catholics to be real Christians, their number drop below 1 billion. And when you start taking out the Protestant groups they claim are also wrong, it is hard to come up with a number of any significance) Therefore, it is silly to assert that everyone accepts the bible as the word of god.

If you stay at one of the hotels or motels in the Marriott system, you will find a Book of Mormon in the bedside table. That is because the hotel tycoon, J. Willard Marriott, is a Mormon. But perhaps his Mormonism is only checkbook deep, since he finds no problem with serving alcoholic beverages at his establishments.

Kinda funny……never before have I thought that British is the equivalent of Brutish…..but given some of the comments prior….I'm not longer surprised. Thinking it's quite a great thing we Rebelled against the Intolerance of the English Tyrant & Royalists when we did. Otherwise Spain, France & Russia would have continued to expand their Colonial Quests across the rest of what is now North America & the Colonies would have merely become back-water areas of little consequence in the grand scheme of things. A Bible is a Bible, while a novel is a different animal altogether. One must marvel at the attitude of those that choose to think for us, yet defend themselves for the right to think for themselves when questioned.

    The Free American Thinker

  • Harald

    Why!

Even if a person is not a Christian, the Bible is a wonderful book of wisdom, short meaningful stories, poetry, ancient history relevant for study by anyone for improvement of character and understanding of human nature. Today Mr. Denby thinks a book of porn is more relevant to current society than a book of wisdom. If he is right, then that is quite a statement of how much mankind has devolved to a state of base animal desires from a state of desire for righteousness and truth.

"But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?" (II Kings 18:27)

"And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee: For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall they camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee." (Deuteronomy 23:13-14)

"If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it." (Malachi 2:2-3)

The wisdom just overflows with these passages.

the text states execution will not occur if emotional committment to focus is not present, no matter the good intentions… that would be the reason for the eventual lack of success
