US Evangelicals Accused Of Promoting Homophobia In Africa

Christian evangelical groups in the US are attempting a "cultural colonisation" of Africa, opening offices in numerous countries to promote attacks on homosexuality and abortion, according to an investigation by a liberal thinktank.

American religious organisations are expanding their operations across the continent, lobbying for conservative policies and laws and fanning homophobia, argues the Boston-based Political Research Associates (PRA).

The groups include the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), founded by the televangelist Pat Robertson, which has established bases in Kenya and Zimbabwe.

"The religious right [in effect] claims that human rights activists are neocolonialists out to destroy Africa," the report states. Groups named in it vehemently rejected the claims.

Evangelicals have a perfect right to warn Africans about the evils of homosexuality. Just as this liberal think tank has the right to try and paint evangelicals as trying to spread hatred against people who classify themselves as homosexuals. It is up to the public to determine who is is being disingenuous and who is following their conscience.

Get your unsupportable views out of peoples lives. There are no gods.

No God? Chris P. Well then, does it count that people think so, and are willing to base their minute-by-minute choices in life according to that belief? You are surrounded in this forum by people who do just that. They are not willing to accept your premise. Now, in terms you have defined, now, who is the intolerant one?

        • Evermyrtle

I think it could be like this with Chris, teach, discuss, encourage something only if Chris approves. He seems to believe that he will get to make the choices. He does not seem able to discern that we go to GOD for advice and direction and won't consider Chris' opinions.

        • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

When one is surrounded by a multiple of people, ALL who claim to know their god is real, on what basis should one assume one group is following an actual god? They all assert the same beliefs. They all assert the same logic. They all assert the same threats about not believing in their god.

          • UF Gator

I knew you would show up : )
I am just trying to get this guy to respond and he is so rude, Jeff!

          • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

Chris is very direct with his comments. That is common when one is not trying to debate, but to attack.

I attempt to point out where people make factual or logical mistakes. I hope to show their views are not as grounded in logic or facts as they want to believe they are.

Chris and I also are on opposing viewpoints about government. His is very liberal. I am a fiscal conservative and social libertarian.

          • UF Gator

            Should I apologize

            There is no reason to.

            then I won't :)

          • UF Gator

Jeff, they are not all asserting threats against Chris, I never did! Aren't there others not threatening him?

            Still a Christian.

          • UF Gator

Your summary then is the Christians are threatenig?

          • Jeffrey Dixon

Some are. Christianity has tempered itself quite a bit over the past 300 years.

          • UF Gator

I think that is an influence of our free thinkers, our Republic and its constitution; it's amazing what even a little bit of rational thinking can do for a country.

      • Evermyrtle

We could say the same thing to you, We have perfect proof, you have nothing to go on but the lies of Satan. It is so sad he if fooling so many people.

        • http://www.facebook.com/jeffrey.dixon.509 Jeffrey Dixon

Perfectly absurd proof's you must have meant to post. What is this perfect proof? Inquiring minds want to know.

          • Myrtle

We have GOD'S WORD, the only perfect writings in assistance, at this time or ever was, for that matter! I am sorry it took me so long to let you know.

      • Myrtle

When you leave with your uneducated views some of us might think about getting out, but our Christian knowledge and love for America and her people, is needed right now. The world is so anti-GOD we cannot leave until we are no longer needed,

    • Evermyrtle

If you tell them about GOD, you are forcing your opinion,, if you agree and explain Muslim beliefs you are a good person!!!

  • Evemyrtle

In the following scriptures is where Christina are aiming, at teaching GOD'S word. We are not afraid of any kind of sin, we are afraid of the wages of our sin. GOD'S WORD tells us to teach the truth. and the truth today, is not what the world wants to hear. We are ridiculed, we are lied about, any thing to harm our teaching of GOD'S WORD is acceptable to the anti-GOD people.

    Matt 25: 32-34
    32. And before HIM shall be gathered all nations: and HE shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats;
    33. And HE shall set the sheep on HIS right hand, but the goats on the left.
    34. Then shall the KING say unto them on HIS right hand, Come< you blessed of my FATHER, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

Read the remainder of the chapter to get the rest of the message as I cannot post the rest of it.

God Bless the efforts of those who would stand against sin. Since when is standing for God and his righteousness been charged with only to conservative when most all back churches vote democratic? God is not conservative, a political football HE is God and will never be put in a box. Did God say in His word that Homosexuality is an abomination? Then it is!

    • Evermyrtle

There is an old hymn, "We'll Understand It All By and By", That is so very true. When we meet our SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, it will be too late to change out minds so we best get our hearts right before that day.

  • mesaman

Well, I'm amazed that Evangelicals could do such a thing. Imagine, the birthplace of HIV/AIDS, the spawning ground for disease yet identified and not treated successfully, and the womb of tribal customs that have compromised our traditional ways, over several hundred years. Who are the members of PRA, and in what context could people in a fraud-ravaged city like Boston be offering comments towards groups which tend to improve the conditions of those bound to third-world administrations. I salute the works of Evangelicals, anywhere, anytime.

Don't forget the propensity to incorporate Voo doo, Hoo Doo, and other African religions into American Christian religions …

You are absolutely correct in that. While I respect many musical influences attributed to them, I find Rap to be antisocial, insidious, criminal-gang related garbage. But that is just one man's opinion. Thank you for the additional information.

        • Bighoss

Rap is, in fact NOT music. I have personally written what is probably the world's shortest and most correct rap "song." It goes like this:

I got no use for none o' that rap,
I think it's all just a lotta crap!

          • mesaman

Agreed. The repetitive rhythm and monotonous chording is identical to the aboriginal sounds from the black continent.

      • Bighoss

The Catholic Church has a long history of incorporating pagan concepts into their doctrines and practices. South American Catholicism in many areas incorporates elements derived from indigenous pagan customs.

        • UF Gator

          True, also

I spent almost 2 years in East Africa, and it never seemed that either homosexuality or abortion were a big sell over there. If there's any "cultural colonialism" going on, it's among liberal think tanks trying to project their values (or lack thereof) onto people that have no use for them.

    • Chris P

Rubbish – liberals are not over there deliberately creating hate. People are dying because of these crazy evangelicals.

    • Taquoshi

Interesting. The four projects that I know about that are working in Africa have very little to do with cultural colonialism. One is helping families by teaching them to raise certain farm animals appropriate to their location, another is a doctor's group without borders, and the last two are educational groups who provide literacy classes to orphans.

The doctors group is the one that has the broadest contact with the general population and I can truthfully say that their reports back to the U.S. clearly indicate that AIDS is a major health threat. The sheer number of children orphaned by this disease is astounding, and many of those children are already HIV positive at the tender ages of 3 and 4. People can call it cultural colonialism all they want, but it actually is a public health issue.

Our main objective as missionaries is to spread the gospel to other countries, train the new believers in the Word of God and they will recognize sin on their own. That is also the way believers should be taught in our churches. Ministers should not have to tell their congregation not to do certain things (or to do certain things – works) if they are teaching what the Bible says for living the Christian way of life. When I left the denomination I grew up in and started going to a consistently taught non-denomination Bible teaching church I learned about mental attitude sins I never realized I was committing. It was straight from the Word of God and what to do about them from the Bible. (1 John 1:9)
The more we grow spiritually through the teaching of His Word the less we sin; however, we will always sin until we die but we have an advocate, Jesus Christ (1 John 2:1 + the whole chapter) and the Holy Spirit. (Rom 8:26)
God has provided everything we need to live the Christian way of life.

  • KnowTheTruthToday

It is great that we can influence the hetero – phobes – they have some serious issues.

  • Randy131

What a bunch of nonsense, what is this PRA all about, and what is their mission and goal, to stop the spread of Christianity and the Gospel? What does their membership consist of, all Gays and Lesbians? It sure seems like it.

  • The Watchman

Well yes, of course their against homosexuality, for one thing the practice of "it", is a sin, and secondly, abortion is murder, period!!! What doesn't the left understand about Christians anyway? Are they not aware that Christians have been preaching from God's Word all this time. What is it, all of a sudden because Barack Obama decided that he'd like to have the homosexual vote, so he came out for same sex marriage, now only his opinion counts and everyone else is suddenly wrong? Perhaps no one remembers that it was only a few months ago when Obama was against same sex marriage. The Left is dumber than I ever thought.

  • Evermyrtle

What we as sinners need to be afraid of is meeting JESUS face to face because that time is coming and then it will be too late to change.

  • Evermyrtle

The liberals expect us to be tolerant of their intolerance. They think it is their right to call all of the shots.

  • http://www.facebook.com/craig.mayberry.1 Craig Mayberry

Homophobia? Does that mean that we're afraid of homosexuals? Homosexuality is a perversion of God's order. We promote God's order. We're not afraid of homosexuals.
