Israeli Scholar Completes Mission to 'Fix' Bible

For the past 30 years, Israeli Judaic scholar Menachem Cohen has been on a mission of biblical proportions: Correcting all known textual errors in Jewish scripture to produce a truly definitive edition of the Old Testament.

His edits, focusing primarily on grammatical blemishes and an intricate set of biblical symbols, mark the first major overhaul of the Hebrew Bible in nearly 500 years.

Poring over thousands of medieval manuscripts, the 84-year-old Cohen identified 1,500 inaccuracies in the Hebrew language texts that have been corrected in his completed 21-volume set. The final chapter is set to be published next year.

The massive project highlights how Judaism venerates each tiny biblical calligraphic notation as a way of ensuring that communities around the world use precisely the same version of the holy book.

      When Paul said the Bereans were more honorable than (some of) the Thessalonians he said it because they received what he was saying and "searched the Scripture to see if it was so". What Scripture did they search? Why the OLD TESTAMENT of course! That was Scripture at the time – as the New Testament had not yet been written, being "in production" during that time.
      When Paul told Timothy "from a child you have know the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" what "holy scriptures" do you think he was talking about? RIGHT! The OLD TESTAMENT.
      
      When Matthew used prophecy to show that Jesus was the Messiah King, where did he get those prophecies from? RIGHT! The OLD TESTAMENT.
      
      When the New Testament says "all Scripture is given by inspiration of God (is God-breathed) and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness" what Scripture is that? The entire Bible.
      
      You can't believe the New without believing the Old.
      
      So you think the Old Testament is full of anger, death, worshipping false idols? Yes it is. That's the problem of sin. That's the whole point. Anyone who thinks they are righteous or that by keeping a set of rules (which they can't keep anyway) is how they obtain perfection or holiness, discovers in the pages of the Old Testament that it didn't happen and that it can't happen. What they, and you, find is: the effects of original sin; the continuing effects of current sin; the problem (our sin nature); God's mercy and forgiveness; God's plan to pay the price of the law of sin and death by using the law of substitutionary atonement wherein his appointed sacrifice is slain so that we will be saved – it ALL points to our sin problem and God's merciful solution to it in Christ.
