Are Blacks Still Enslaved?

How does a former NAACP chapter president, a self-proclaimed liberal who championed the likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, end up in the hyper-conservative Tea Party?

C.L. Bryant will tell you how, because that's his story—one he shares in Runaway Slave, a new documentary now playing in limited theaters. In the film, Bryant, former pastor of a Texas Baptist church, depicts the conservative roots of the African American community and argues that a new Underground Railroad movement is necessary for liberation from entitlements.

Bryant believes that many blacks don't appreciate the freedoms and opportunities in place since the civil rights movement, instead living as if they're still under oppression and injustice. He also calls on conservatives to tell their side of African American history.

He analyzes the views and conceptions of the black community, and interviews conservative African American leaders such as Herman Cain, Dr. Alveda King (niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.), economist Thomas Sowell, and more.

Bryant spoke with CT's Jasmine Young about his intentions and purpose behind the film.

You were once an NAACP leader, and now you're a conservative Tea Party patriot who openly criticizes the NAACP. How did that happen?

Twenty-three years ago when I was president of the NAACP in Garland, Texas, I was asked by the national office to speak at a prochoice rally. As a minister and person of faith, I could not reconcile that, so I turned it down. In doing so, my star that was rising in the organization began to take a decline. They not only wanted to control me, they wanted to use me to control a block of people. So I started on a conservative path with them turning on me.

‎11Chronicles 7:14 "Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land." Dear God, Please hear from Heaven! We are humbled, We have repented and We are praying… We seek Your face only and are turning from our wicked way! Help us please please! Show us your arm of mercy! Your mighty arm of Justice! Your mighty hand of healing! Please bring revival to America! Pour out your Spirit, Lord, God and Bless America Again! In Jesus Name I pray! AMEN

    • Vladimir

Unfortunately, the ones that need to be praying that, aren't and won't.

  • john

The answer to your question. The majority of them are still slaves to their own (Sharpton, Jackson, NAACP, etc). The ones that wear the gold rings and fashionable hairstyles, lieing to their own people. Such a shame that they would do such a despicable to their own people.

    • mesaman

You have spoken for me, as well. I have great, honorable black friends and enjoy their company, professionally and socially. But I do believe there is a significant percentage of blacks who are uneducated and prefer it that way. They have been raised with the "victim" mentality and gravitate toward black leaders who are more interested in exploiting them and placing them in harm's way than improving their social acceptance and helping them contribute to a healthier society.

      • Evermyrtle

What about the wealthy and the educated blacks, there are many Christians here who want what is good for America and for their people and are wonderful Christians.
But we have those with a giant chip on their shoulders and are daring us to "knock" it off, who are liberals who are fighting everything Christian and everything American in the country .

    • kiltyone

Have you ever listened to Bohner and the other bunch of repubs who are lying hypocrites.
They have stood in the way of President Obama at every turn. Not once did they try to work with him. They just stood back and took part in lying accusations that are totally unfounded.
Get used to it folks, our President Obama will be around another four years and stop the plans of people like Ryan who hopes to rip Social Security and Medicare out of the hands of our elderly. Moromney wants to conquer America for his wealthy LDS church and he can't win.
Signing Ryan on as his VP is his version of, "I give up."

      • Vladimir

Kiltyone, standing "in the way of President Obama at every turn" is a good thing. Most of us want to preserve our liberty and not become slaves to the government. BO is a marxist/socialist and is against everything that has made this country great over the centuries. Three cheers for anyone who stands in his way.

      • Evermyrtle

To know evil and still do it, is worse than doing evil not recognizing it as evil, and Bohner knows better.

    "Are Blacks Still Enslaved?"
    Yes.
Mostly by choice, well, except for the lazy ones, there is no hope for them that's why the jails hold so many black people.
By that I mean there is a very large segment of the black community that find it easier to run the streets and shoot hoops than get an education and as they grow older realise that without an education they cannot find good jobs then they realise that the government will give them support and coupled with some criminal activity and with the help of their & their girlfriends children's welfare checks and subsidized housing, they get by. But, "getting by" ain't good enough, they want more and expect those who have jobs and work will support them better through the government welfare system. There is more involved but it would take a book to detail it.
Bottom line, they are on the Washington, D.C. Plantation: The same plantation blacks lived on/in during slavery….and obama has done nothing to change that. So much for "The First Black President", he's no better than the shuck & jiver in the 'hood. Have a nice day.

    • Evermyrtle

The blacks are exactly like whites in one way, each and every one of them is responsible for his or her own beliefs and decisions. I often why the pot calls the kettle "black!" Is there some secret that he pot knows about the kettle that we don't know?

      • kiltyone

what the hell are you talking about Myrtle. You sound like the old white slave owners who want another mammy to do your bidding. Now you are just too old and want someone to wait upon you white wrinkled body.
Look someplace else lady. Step 'n' Fetchit are long gone.

        • Evermyrtle

"The pot calling the kettle black" is an old saying that I have heard all my life which is used when some people or person,is putting other people down while he or she, is just like them, doing the same sort of things. Is that more understandable??

The whites accuse the blacks of all kinds of things and the blacks call us all kinds of things, mostly lies on both sides made me remember the "old saying"

    • kiltyone

You are the most disgusting piece of dreck around. Blacks and Brown folk are no more lazy than anyone else. The problem is they can't get a decent job. We have friends who are doctors, pharmacists, professors and all types of ultra educated people. Do the jobs go to them as first choice…NO! They are lucky to in hired in a third level position. Take a look at who heads up UCLA's Neurology department. Check out who it was that devised the process for transfusing human blood yet who was left to die on the highway due to the fact he just happened to be black in the south and no ambulance service would come and take him to the hospital. If this sort of thing happens to the top ladder of the educated people of colour just think what happens to those who are lucky enough to graduate from high school. There are plenty of opportunities for the poor and middle class white folk but not much for those of color.
When we have a level playing field perhaps then we will learn the value of some of our truly great citizens who just happen to be black.
Not too long ago women found themselves in much the same position and were kept at lower level positions and seldom made into the upper echelons. Times are changing and there will be a bright new world
Are all of you aware that the United States no longer has a white majority? In many states the good ole white boy is on his way out and miscegenation is the word and act of the day.

      • http://www.answersingenesis.org/ keyboardshark

        kittyone;
No one is saying that racial discrimination does not occur, but at some point a person, any person, regardless of color, has to step out of their comfort zone and take full responsibility for their own life by making responsible choices and working their butts off to achieve their goals. Yes, I know it's a hard job market out their, but envy of others who have a job is not going to get anyone a single step closer to finding their own job, or even creating their own job, They have to decide that where you want to be in life will only be achieved by taking positive, decisive action and working harder than the competition. Otherwise, they will continue to go through life in their miserable estate blaming everyone but themselves for their lot in life.

      • Chris N

You posted "In many states the good ole white boy is on his way out and miscegenation is the word and act of the day."
That's true, but is it a good thing ?
The USA is a Republic founded for 'ourselves and our poterity', however today, the USA, like EVERY White country, and ONLY White countries, is flooded with people from the 3rd World who we're expected to 'assimilate' (inter-marry).
The attempt to destroy, in whole or in part, EVERY White country through 3rd World immigration and 'assimilation' is Genocide, under International Law.
Anybody who objects to this is called the r-word and labeled as a 'naziwhowantstokill6millionjews'.
        'Anti-racist' is a codeword for Anti-White

We are all enslaved to a point, by the things we believe. We live by these things, at most of us do. Sometimes we kick over the traces and live differently because of how people around us influence us to change.

    • Mary Wood

You are the perfect pilot project for John MacArthur, Myrtle. Dare I give you the link? Oh, go ahead … Here it is Myrtle,
http://www.christianpost.com/news/interview-john-macarthur-on-being-a-slave-for-christ-middle-east-unrest-49087/ Please give us your comments about being a slave like MacArthur wants us to become.

      • Evermyrtle

Thank you, very much, but I have it, already!

        • Mary Wood

          You have MacArthur's book?

          • Evermyrtle

I don't have any written material only the source of where it is available.

      • Evermyrtle

Thank you very much, but I have it already!

      • Evermyrtle

By the way, I am so happy to be a slave of JESUS CHRIST but that is not something HE wants nor asks of us, HE wants people who are fellow workers for GOD, instead of slaves. I checked out John MacArthur briefly, and found that his work is not, even close to being interesting as the WORD OF GOD, therefore I bypassed most of it. So, that is the only comments I have on his works.

The black community's enslavement to the left-wing liberal welfare state is not a result of any inferiority based on skin color. They have been hoodwinked by the Democratic party and so-called 'black leaders' who have led them astray down the primrose path of socialism/statism. They have little incentive to better their lives because they have been conditioned by the left to believe they are inferior and must depend on the state to supply them with money that someone else earned.

They have also been taught by the left that they must depend on big government to pass reverse-discrimination laws (a.k.a. Affirmative Action) to give them any chance of landing a job. In other words, the very groups that claim to be looking out for their best interests are the ones who are enslaving and disrespecting them. Then they pile on the holocaust of abortion that disproportionately affects black babies and policies that contribute to the fracturing of the black families, and the enslavement is complete.

    • Mary Wood

Agreed that they have been hoodwinked by "leaders," the first time, but after that it is their choice to remain so. The claim they are still enslaved is bogus. It is the self-enslavement, if anything. The problem is, however, dependency is endemic, becomes a family legacy, after the first generation, it's in the DNA to depend on the government. We have a new extra 47 million on food stamps since this admin took office and we need to stop those before they pass it onto their next generation. Same with Affirmative Action and many others; in the state where I live the abortion rate is near 70% for black unmarried and 50% for white unmarried women! This is a state in the midst of the Christian bible belt!!! The Republican Congress with Bill Clinton famously addressed this in the mid 1990s, I recall. Obviously, it did not "take;" we may need to revive those efforts and take a hard look at why. Don't tell me it's because they don't know about birth control. I think they just know they can get free health care if they want it any time they want it. They don't care who is paying for it.

The Christians had better start to consider what works. What doesn't work is to tell everyone to say they are sinners… I couldn't believe people actually say this all the time. Key. It makes no sense to me. It tells me this: Oh well, I am a sinner, so it's not my fault if sin, and anyway I will be forgiven by the atonement.. that is the attitude that I see in these Christian communities. Here is where the Mormon's shine. The youngsters are told about the Strength of Youth.

      https://www.lds.org/youth/for-the-strength-of-youth?lang=eng

Take note we do not display the cross on our churches because it is too sacred a symbol. It is a sacred thing and we hold it close.

      • http://www.answersingenesis.org/ keyboardshark

Yes, I did not mean to imply that black persons, or any persons, for that matter, are absolved of personal responsibility for their actions because of a certain kind of indoctrination. We can all be fooled by the siren song of some idea that sounds good on a superficial level, but then we must perform our due diligence to avoid falling into a pattern of destructive behavior. I know It's hard to break from the "everyone's doin' it" groupthink mantra, but personal responsibility must take over at some key point and break the shackles that tie us to the enslaving behavior.

        • Mary Wood

          My first response:
          give me a minute…

      • kiltyone

Mormons are a bunch of cultic clowns. They believe they will live on other planets after death and have hundreds of wives and kids. Mormons are just another cult based on sex like Scientology.
They wouldn't know Christ if they walked into him whilst shopping.
        Mormons are a false religion.

        • Mary Wood

          your opinion

          • Evermyrtle

I get most of my opinions from GOD'S WORD. but sometime I slip and pick up some from the liberals, when I do this I repent and change course, again back to GOD'S WORD, which I hate to admit but lying will not cover any mistake so I just go ahead and admit them. This is the only way GOD will forgive me.

This particular one spoken of, is from GOD, it is something HE hates.

        • RAL

Are you really this stupid? I am not Mormon.I was brought up in a denominational church, but switch to non-denominational. I have plenty of those I know, that are Mormons. In fact I have spoken to them, met their families, and not one has more than one wife. In fact, most Mormons don't, but a small sect does. But if I was using that excuse, you would think the denominational I belonged to, all believed in handling snakes. That is ignorance in listening to what others say, and not finding out the truth.
As far as Scientology, I don't know any, except a bunch of nutty celebrities you see on television. From what I understand, you buy your way into heaven, but I have not done any research.
Making false accusations is called 'baring false witness', just one of those small 'requests' God made…no biggie.

I was listening to a sermon, the other day, and he combined true stories of Jesus healing the blind. One healing that took place healed the blind man with mud on Jesus hands and placed on the blind mans eyes, the other was a blind man healed with a touch of Jesus and the third was healed Just with Jesus words. Which were healed correctly? The point he was making is denomination's can pervert what Jesus was doing, and I remember the arguments I got into as a child, in those that were not in my denomination. God did not make religion. In fact religion was made by man, because of mans sinful nature. Jesus even pointed out the Pharisee's, the religious rulers of the Jews, as hypocrites and liars, spouting half truths and making rules for personal gain. Ignorance is only a problem, when those saying the truth, don't do their homework to find the truth. The Pharisee's were not after the truth. They were after power, pride and personal profit.

          • Evermyrtle

Name calling and slurs like some of these, are cheap and non-productive, unless you call return names and slurs productive.

      • Evermyrtle

        Excellent point!!

Have you read John MacArthur SLAVE? It's what being promoted by him in his Christian ministry in Southern California. Here is an interview, indicates the controversy:

Just the mere fact that you people are explaining yourself to these people shows you're a bunch of cowards and morons! Those people don't like you whites and you're tooooo stupid to know it!

  • John Munro

Many vote for someone who intends to enslave us all. The sad truth is they vote not for what he has done but for his color. This may one day be a wake up call for all of us. He has not honestly done anything for just because of your color.

  • RonMar

Anyone on the public dole is enslaved.
