Religious Freedom Amendment on the Ballot in FL

Florida voters will be asked this November to consider a religious-freedom amendment that seeks to protect faith-based social services while also tackling anti-religious bias. Launched on April 4, the Religious Freedom Act is being supported by the SayYesOn8 initiative and a broad range of organizations to protect social services offered by faith-based groups. Amendment 8 is one of two ballot initiatives being actively supported by the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Amendment 8 is intended to do three things: It would preserve partnerships between government and social-service organizations; it would ensure continued delivery of social services by faith-based organizations; and it would eliminate discrimination against churches and religious institutions that provide social services.

“The citizens of Florida have an opportunity to correct an historic injustice,” said Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami, president of the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops. “If voters approve the Religious Freedom Act, our Florida Constitution will be more aligned with the U.S. Constitution and, at the same time, will allow religious entities to continue to participate in public programs.”

Mitt Romney led Bain Capital to invest in a company that disposes of aborted fetuses. The report also indicates that Bain Capital misled reporters earlier this year when they said that Romney had left Bain prior to Bain’s $75 million investment in Stericycle.

This sounds like something you would support brad, with the involvement of aborted fetuses and all.

Coming from you there is a 95% chance important details have been twisted and left out anyhow.

Your posts seem desperate and disheveled recently.

What is the source of these claims, Brad? You did not provide a link. If true, I would say that it is a black mark against Romney, but compared to the thousands of black marks against Obama, I see no reason to switch my vote from Romney to Obama.

Stericycle is a company that contracts with hospitals, clinics, and medical offices to receive and dispose of medical wastes ("biohazard" wastes). The law requires that such wastes must be handled and disposed of properly in order to prevent human exposure to pathogens potentially or actually present in such wastes. Aborted fetuses are among the numerous kinds of biohazard wastes that are legally required to be properly disposed of by companies licensed to dispose of such wastes. Stericycle is one among a number of companies that provide these necessary services.

I am no fan of Romney and I consider many of the actions of Bain Capital to have been driven by the lust for profit at the expense of human values, but to criticize either Bain or Romney on the basis of a financial holding in a firm that legally collects, transports, and treats biohazard wastes is an extreme of zeal on the part of the pro-life advocates.

If the Catholics are for it – everybody should be against it.

FAITH based SOCIAL SERVICES – have been a tremendous help to the HOMELESS and JOBLESS in FLA. They serve these people without discrimination. Every year there is a campaign for CATHOLIC CHARITIES, the SALVATION ARMY and other CHURCHES to help fund this SERVICES.
Obama and his minions wanting to get rid of our RELIGIOUS FREEDOM is DESPICABLE..

Many faith based services have been closed in the past because of laws that went against their conscience. This has been happening since mid 1900's so it is not new. That is one reason we have the problems that we do today.
