Proposed law bars parents from 'curing' gay children

A first-of-its-kind state law that would restrict parents from trying to "cure" their minor children's same-sex attractions seems headed to the governor's desk.

If both state houses can agree on the final language, the legislation, which would ban all sexual orientation change effort (SOCE) treatment for minors, will be sent to Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown for his signature sometime in September. But, so far, there has been no indication from his office on whether he will sign the bill into law.

Whatever the governor does, he's sure to face criticism. Backers see it as a civil rights issue, while critics say lawmakers are infringing on not only parents' rights but also on the mission of mental health professionals.

"[The law] unconstitutionally prohibits speech…violates privacy and personal autonomy rights, intermeddles in theological disputes, clashes with other laws and creates significant unintended consequences," Matt McReynolds,, a staff attorney with Sacramento-based Pacific Justice Institute, said.

    Homosexuality WAS a mental illness until the 1980's at which time mental health experts (?) determined it was a thoughtful, considerate choice, therefore not an aberrant act. Later it would be advanced by LBGT and A (for animal) that it was a genetic determination. However, no gene has yet been identified as "causing" queerness or homosexuality. It remains, in those who would disagree with mental health experts (?), that homosexuality is an antisocial act of selfishness and as such constitutes a mental illness.

What else can one expect from a state that has gone as far as California? I lived there once and have friends there. Wonder what the breakdown is as to what percentage of the population supports this legislation. Is it enough to turn the state around? How bad does it have to get before God takes action. Remember God promised Abraham that He would not destroy Sodom and Gommorah is He found 10 people there that had not done this particular sin.

They are talking about passing a law that takes the raising of children out of the hands of parents. Are you willing to live in a state that does that? A subject that cannot even be raised in the secular marketplace of ideas is that of demon oppression or even possession, which is a real factor in iniquities such as homosexuality (male or female). Jesus said that "some come not out except by prayer and by fasting", so how could a parent even try to assist a troubled young teen who is confused and needing counseling and intervention where such an onerous/misguided law is in place?
