Growing disbelief

America is not an easy place for atheists. Religion pervades the public sphere, and studies show that non-believers are more distrusted than other minorities.

Several states still ban atheists from holding public office. These rules, which are unconstitutional, are never enforced, but that hardly matters. Over 40% of Americans say they would never vote for an atheist presidential candidate.

Yet the past seven years have seen a fivefold increase in people who call themselves atheists, to 5% of the population, according to WIN-Gallup International, a network of pollsters. Meanwhile, the proportion of Americans who say they are religious has fallen from 73% in 2005 to 60% in 2011.

70% to 60% more and more people are turning their backs to God and then they wonder why this great country is in the shape it is..

It is self explanatory, isn't it??

    • daves

Just because you don't describe yourself as religious does not mean you have turned your back on God.

      Religion bad, Jesus good.

Growing disbelief is because more and more people are no longer taught the Word of God in their homes or even their churches. It is amazing how little even believers know what the Bible says. The only way a person can love God is to know Him through His Word. One can say they are Christians and have no idea why or how to become a Christian. Then people have wonder why God doesn't bless this country; why should He when we don't honor Him.

People are turning away from religion because they are becoming educated about the reality of the world.

Romans 1:25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and
worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed
        forever.

this is a result of individual feel-good Christianity over corporate Christianity. how does the church serve me instead of how do i serve the church attitude. part of the problem is that Christians instead of being the salt and light of the culture is more of a mirror of the culture. the church has the answer to all of life's problems but keeps it to itself. that answer is that Jesus Christ wants to heal their sin-sick, broken image of God, soul. he paid the price required to break the curse of sin's chains. if a Christian truly believed what it says about the Triune God in the creeds of the faith they will be able to read the Bible for all its worth it will change their life like it did to the apostles in the first century who even after hearing that Jesus rose from the dead were scared to leave the upper room for long to the evangelist that the threat of death could not be stopped. for if a Christian had right theology he would be free for God to use him like he used the apostles of the first century.

One would think, with the state of this country, that Christianity would be surging.

Why would anyone want some one who has no morals no ethics cares about no one but # 1
Could you imagine a soldier going into battle believing in nothing?
If Jesus the Christ is no#1 in your life you have nothing to fear!
