Clemson football player baptized at practice

Like all ACC football teams, the Clemson Tigers went through several weeks of sweaty, bone-crunching practices leading up to the regular season. Said offensive coordinator Chad Morris: "There were some times in fall camp, it was pretty intense."

How intense? Amid the full-contact drills and triple-digit South Carolina heat, one player underwent a religious transformation – and his teammates were all witnesses.

Clemson wide receivers coach Jeff Scott tweeted this photo of junior wideout DeAndre Hopkins getting baptized on Thursday – apparently in a Rubbermaid ice tub.

In his tweet, Scott called the baptism the "highlight of my week."

    Very cool. Big step.

  • John Adams

    This is a disgrace.
Baptism is a sacred ordinance, not a "half-time" event.

Did you ever read in GOD'S WORD how Phillip met the man out in the wilderness and ran across the man who wanted to be baptized? Phillip baptized in a small pond of water out there. We do not have any way to know how serious, how dedicated, how faithful these people were or were not. Judging in such instances is so easy, getting the truth is not so easy, WE SIMPLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT WENT ON THERE. WE NEED TO LEAVE THE JUDGING TO GOD.

They were in football jersies; the coach in shorts. The photo is enough proof to KNOW this was a disgrace!!
This did NOT happen in a desert. There were church buildings nearby that baptismal pools.

GOD never asked us to be the judge of anybody to say nothing about something that we know nothing about. As for me I have too much trouble keeping myself within the bounds that GOD laid out for me, to try to keep others in line. The clothes that people were wearing was unimportant, what was important was what was in the hearts of those involved and there is no way we can know that. It is just a miracle that they were even thinking of GOD, in the first place. We can look, imagine and judge, and GOD will judge us with the judgment that we hand out. It is possible that there were things out of line with GOD, BUT that is for HIM to handle not us, He is the only one who is pefect, makes no mistakes..

A DISGRACE with respect to Christian baptism is when some ordained clergyman wearing vestments nowhere prescribed in scripture, sprinkles minute amounts of water on the head of a tiny baby and calls that travesty a "baptism."

Question for those who subscribe to such a heretical notion of baptism: Of what sins did that infant "repent" before his/her "baptism"? (See Acts 2:38)

What BELIEF did that infant entertain before his/her "baptism"? See Acts 8:37)

If it be heretical to baptize babies, why was there no condemnation in the early days, despite there being condemnation of every heresy and liturgical abuse under the sun. It is as legitimate, nay, essential, for Christians to baptize their babies as it was for Jews to circumcise their baby boys under the Old Covenant.

John Adams, what is really important here? The fact that he was baptized and all the importance of the open and public display of him becoming a Christian in front of so many witnesses who are also his teammates far overshadows "it has to be done in a Church building or it isn't valid." A Rubbermaid stock tank works just as well as a baptizemal font. Personally, my Church uses a 12' horse trough from TSC. (That's Tractor Supply Company. a farm supply store for those who don't know.) Every one of those 2000+ people are just as baptized as those who are baptized in one of the largest Churches in the area, who, by the way, uses a portable swimming pool or one of the other large Churches who use a retention pond on their property. It's not how or where it was done, it's what is on the inside that is important.

Wonder how long it will take for the ACLU to show up and file a lawsuit?

  • lainky

This is WONDERFUL considering the way the media is ripping Tim Tebow apart because of his faith. The media has attacked him as being a FAKE and having NO TALENT but he will prove that he is as good a player as he is a CHRISTIAN and he has opened the door for a lot of other athletes to proclaim thier Christinanity without believing they will be PUNISHED for it. God Bless Them and God Bless America.

    • Bighoss

The article has NOTHING to say about Tim Tebow. Kindly supply references to support your claim that "
The media has attacked him as being a FAKE and having NO TALENT." Until you are able to do that, I am inclined to view your comments as yet one more example of baseless blithering by a disordered ultra-rightest paranoid.

  • lainky

First of all Bighoss, learn how to read and then maybe you can subscribe to the New York Times and read what the Media wrote about Tebow joining the Jets, and then maybe you can give an opinion about something YOU DO KNOW. And by the way about your birther comment, if Obama dosen't show COMPLETE documentation of his citizenship and he can't, he cannot be the democratic party's nomonee. See the story from Columbia College on why he has spent millions to have his college records sealed because he attented as a foreign exchange student while being a CITIZEN of Indonisia. Thereby the American tax paying CITIZEN paid for his college education which he didn't get much of since he spent much of his time by his OWN admittion out partying and smoking pot! Now put that in your pipe and blow smoke rings around your STUPID head. IN CHECK!

    • Bighoss

Got news for you, lainky. Obama IS the Democratic Party nominee (not your illiterate "nomonee") , just as he was in 2008. Your ASSertion that he can not be the nominee is as flawed as the rest of your posted silliness, especially your ranting "birther" contention.

I read several New York Times articles about Tebow and none of them support your contention that the media consider Tebow a fake or having "no talent." The Times archive lists over 200 entries for "Tim Tebow," so you need to be more specific about documenting your claim about what they allegedly printed. All in all, you need to do a much better mob of documentation, since your generalized references to media accounts thus far have provided not one single link to any media story, leaving us to trust your representations. That ain't enough, lainky.
