Scientology storm: Bride auditions for Tom Cruise

The Church of Scientology and Tom Cruise are certainly laboring this holiday weekend.

An explosive new report contends the organization auditioned potential brides for Cruise following his 2001 split from Nicole Kidman—one that’s been backed up by a famous detractor of the religion.

On Saturday Vanity Fair magazine released a cover story titled “What Katie Didn’t Know,” an exposé claiming an effort on the part of the church to find and vet partners for Cruise, a title that eventually went to his now ex-wife Katie Holmes.

Reportedly executed by Scientology leader David Miscavige’s wife, Shelly, the search for a new bride began in 2004 (presumably after Cruise’s split from his Vanilla Sky co-star Penélope Cruz), with an objective to find an eligible actress in the congregation.

Those who met the criteria were told the church was filming a new training video for members, and were reportedly called in to audition for the nonexistent roles. They were asked, among other questions, “What do you think of Tom Cruise?”

Sounds about right. Scientology, half godless religion, half business that teaches it's clients how to ruthlessly wield power over others, has no moral bounds to restrict it. Welcome to a world without God.

  • aceituna

    Some sick oraganization!

  • fliteking

Bet Tom marries a guy next time.

    • Charlie

Yep, because CA has now banned the counseling of those who are attracted to the same sex. He can come out in the open now.

  • Babylonandon

They've got to keep those "Gay" rumors under control.

  • John Adams

Is there anyone who doesn't think this is SICK!!

    • Evermyrtle

I don't really think this and I am not 'SICK'. The reason why I do not think this, is because I know absolutely nothing anything about it and I would be sick if I believed what is being said because I read it here. I will try to find out a little something about it and then decide what is true and what is not true, hopefully,

      • mesaman

        Want a second opinion?

        • Evermyrtle

Not really! Do you mean the you would say these things, not knowing anything about them? All I can say about them is that I have heard the name. I am responsible for what I say and what I do, so I try to be careful about putting people down. Plus the fact, I Ieave the judging to GOD.

          • mesaman

You do live a sheltered life and it suggests you should comment on very little. Could you have one of those high maintenance egos?

          • Evermyrtle

Not too sheltered!! I do know the world is enmeshed in evil from almost every point that you can look. I am a Christian in every way try to please HIM. I do realize I am a disappointment to HIM because I am a sinner, though a repentant sinner.

            Matt 20:16; 25-28
            16. So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen

            25. JUSUS called them unto HIM, and said, " You know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
            26. But is shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
            27. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
            28. Even as the SON OF MAN came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give HIS life a ransom for many.

HE also tell us to minister unto the lost and if they do not want hear to go our way and leave them alone. . Maybe I am wrong but I tend to minister not to rip apart. If I should have an opportunity I would point our the error of their beliefs and ways, when they reject and if they reject what I have to say,I will leave them alone.

Matt. 22:14 For many are called but few are chosen.

I guess you are a bit slow…. doesn't take that much time to look at this cult and make a judgement about its direction…. how much more time do you need???

        • Evermyrtle

I guess I am, because I forgot to study my book on Scientology last night and the night before.

      • Wordman

I know something about it. I've been to Scientology meetings and known people who "took the training." Also read about the founder's secret teachings on theology. They're sick alright. Powerful, but sick.

      • Bighoss

Once you find out absolutely something about Scientology, you will come to see just what kind of a mind-controlling, brainwashing, despicable cult it is. It is typical of the control-freakiness of Scientology that it would submit a potential spouse for its best-known disciple, the terminally-deluded Mr. Cruise, to the kind of probing and screening described in the article. Such intrusions into the personal lives of members is one of the principal characteristics of a CULT, which Scientology, without question, is. Happy hunting with your research, Evermyrtle. I expect that it will be very revealing, even to your naive mind.

'Scientology' is a pyramid scheme based on a book 'Dianetics' written by sci fi author L Ron Hubbard (Battlefield Earth) as a joke, a barroom bet that he couldn't write a fictitious ponzi scheme as a religion. Instead of a god, they've got bad versions of Freud and a rudimentary polygraph machine. Best term for them is 'Psychlos', the enemy aliens from 'Battlefield Earth'.

    • mesaman

Well stated. Someday (hopefully very soon) we will begin to see Cruise as the awkward little gnome from the underworld.

      • jimbo999

Do you remember the time Tom was on one of the Late night shows, jumping on the furniture like a monkey. That was not an act, he was really serious.

        • mesaman

Not strange you should use this example. This is the very image that prompted my post.

That's pretty close. I actuall checked into it once and took a few classes – then I ran like hell.

    • /.murphy

It's totally fiction, and quite nutty. But this is America; we enjoy freedom of conscience here.

Tom is yet another pathetic slob actor and any ding-dong woman that would throw herself at him would only be chasing his fame, which is without doubt his best feature! Otherwise you can toss Tommy-boy in the nearest dustbin!

C'mon you Yanks ! Laugh a little. You’re sounding like SNL’s “Church Lady.” This is so preposterous that all you can do is shake your head, laugh and be grateful that your children are not involved in it..
There's nothing any of us can do about Msr Cruise or prospective brides, other than laugh. Condemning them will do no good. Maybe laughing at them will. I'm sure in their saner moments they probably laugh at themselves too.
    Ok.
Probably not. But we should not let the restrain us. :)

    • /.murphy

      I'm with you, Esteban.

  • jimbo999

You had better be careful dealing with those Scientology kooks. They are not just harmless cultists. They have extorted millions of dollars from gullible people, mostly celebrities. They have almost unlimited funds and use them to sue anyone who crosses them. They can keep you tied up in court for years, until you're broke. If you decide to settle out of court, they will take everything you own. Their minions will harass you till the day you die. Then they will put a poisonous snake in your mailbox.

Hubbard's book was a flop which nobody bought, so he convinced some people that it wasn't a novel, it's scripture, about volcanoes, aliens, and enough weird stuff to make it "interesting". In order to progress in the religion, you have to take increasingly more expensive courses, sometimes on cruise ships where you are isolated from civilization, so they are better able to brainwash you. The machine they use is like a lie detector which measures your level of attainment. (according to them). What it really measures in how much you sweat.

These wackos in Hollywood have nothing of substance in their plastic lives. They live a make-believe lifestyle, practice a make-believe religion, and fund a make-believe president. Their entire world is make-believe.

  • Richard

    Lauritz Heinz,

You are so right about Tom. One can see from his expression in the photo that he's more interested in looking good for the camera than showing any kind of loving feeling for the lady in the pic. A classic example of the waste of good oxygen that Hollywood stars are.

  • Charlie

To answer the question posed, "What do you think of Tom Cruise?": I believe that Tom Cruise is a closet homosexual who, because of his career as a "leading man" in movies, he arranges marriages to deflect questions concerning his real maleness and attraction to other men whom he keeps on the side in the shadows.

  • WVF

Tom Cruise and Scientology are well suited for each other, because they are both phony! Cruise is an incredibly overpaid "actor" who doesn't have a clue about how the real world works. L. Ron Hubbard of Scientology fame created a cult following of people who held a great deal of wealth. It's a sad state of affairs when a man can't find a woman for himself.
