When Planned Parenthood Attacks

Karen Handel's most harrowing assignment came shortly after she started her job as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation's senior vice president for public policy. Asked to discontinue the breast cancer fighter's longstanding funding partnership with Planned Parenthood, Handel found herself squarely within the abortion provider's crosshairs. As a steadfast pro-lifer and a former deputy chief of staff to a pro-life Republican governor, she provided Planned Parenthood a convenient symbolic target. When her employer bowed before the onslaught and agreed to restore the funding, Handel resigned in protest.

In her new book, Planned Bullyhood (Howard Books), Handel recounts the events that precipitated her departure from the Komen foundation. CT editorial resident Melissa Steffan spoke with Handel about the reasoning behind Komen's breakup with Planned Parenthood, the urgency of reckoning with the abortion giant's full range of political activities, and the faith that empowered her to stand resolutely by her moral convictions.

When you arrived, Komen was being criticized by pro-life groups and voices on the Right for being pro-abortion and supporting Planned Parenthood. Do you think pro-life groups acted well in this controversy, before Komen changed its funding?

The Left is trying to make it out that the bullies against Komen are on the other side, but there's a major difference in tactics. Here's the difference that I see with the pro-life organizations and even the Catholic Church. They never made an orchestrated media campaign, an orchestrated effort to really destroy Komen. That's what Planned Parenthood was out to do. From the pro-life side, people were being informed about what Komen's branding model looked like and who they were giving money to, and then individuals were making their decisions. It wasn't an orchestrated effort to destroy the organization. Planned Parenthood and the Left really did just unleash an unprecedentedly vicious attack on Komen, all over $680,000 that is nothing in the grand scheme of Planned Parenthood's $1 billion budget.

My second child was born with Down Syndrome, and I am soooo thankful that no one ever mentioned aborting him when I was pregnant–I pray that I would never have been FOOLISH enough to make such a decision. Of course he is "extra work" to care for, but from the day he was born, he has been a continual blessing to us. My first child was equally a blessing.
      
      Please remember that two wrongs don't make a right! Sex outside marriage, then the murder of a resulting unborn child does not make a right (as in something corrected), and it certainly doesn't constitute a "right" (as in an entitlement).

      What terrible experience in your lifetime caused such bitterness. My mom always told me if you can't say anything nice about someone just don't say anything at all about them. I still try to follow this sensible teaching. I remember her saying that what you say reflects on your own reputation. She said name calling was a childish uneducated sign of a persons character and that someone who calls you names, remember that is a very unhappy person.

  There is absolutely no evidence that any gynecological procedure other than removing the uterus and vagina will cause any problems. That procedure is done routinely during hysterectomy either vaginally or abdominal. None of these procedures make any type of can more prevalent. The opposite is true. It removes the possibility of many female cancers.

What else could one expect from a Godless, corrupt organization such as Planned Parenthood who daily kills thousands of God's children in the womb. They preach women's rights but totally ignore the baby's LIFE!! My wife and I and those we know will never support an organization who helps Planned Parenthood become even richer. Donation to Komen was for Breast Cancer Research not to help fund murder of the innocent!!

We had a friend who worked for an affiliate of Planned Parenthood for a while until she saw what the agenda was. Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger to eliminate the "unwanted blacks." although whe used the "N" word instead. Read a little history before making foolish statements!

    You are 100% correct. Well trained nurses both men and women go to local schools and share with the students not only information on the use of contraceptive devices but the application thereof.
    These students sign up each time a presentation is made for contraceptives because they are too embarrassed to ask their parents. How can this be in a day of enlightenment?

    Two female students and 3 male students who had received care during this month turned out to have early cancer which was detected. They were referred to a physician to care for them and their problems have been resolved. Wonder how the parents would deal with this had their child died from the disease. We received two wonderful letters from very grateful parents and very large donations for finding a problem and solving it.
    You want to shut down PP? What will you do when your beloved child turns up dead with a disease that could have been cured but you would not send them to a physician.
    We received another letter that excoriated us for curing his daughter…why? Because it was gods will she die. How about that for modern thought. He has been turned over to the justice system for abuse of a minor.

    Since you chose to use science as a foundation for the murder of millions of unborn children, let's examine your statement, from a scientific viewpoint.
    The term 'embryo', as you chose to use it, is a descriptor for a stage of HUMAN gestational development. This stage is preceded by initial conception, and the zygote phase, and followed by the fetal stage. From initial conception, to birth, the full development of a human being takes approximately 40 weeks. At birth, a human child is often referred to as a newborn, or infant. Since human conception has never resulted in the birth of any other species, primate or otherwise, that can be documented, and absolutely proven, the only logical conclusion through the scientific method, that can be reached, is that at conception, a human life has been created, hence the term procreation.
    Having arrived at this arrived at the aforementioned conclusion through simple observation and deductive reasoning, all within the confines of true scientific methodology, a reasonable and logical individual can only arrive at the conclusion that Planned Murderhood, and its surrogates, such as Lurl, wish to push the voodoo mythology of false gods, to keep the child sacrifices going.

Use to donate to Komen, and always thought they really needed the money to survive for the good things they were doing for women with breast cancer etc., but after finding out those Relays and Fund raising money was going to abortion clinics. I stopped donating, so did many of my friends.

The one second old child is a unique individual human being. If you check the DNA you would not be able to differentiate it from any person walking on the face of the planet. The woman made her choice to have sex. If she did not, murdering the human being inside of her will not make things better. Human life should not be held hostage to the irresponsibility of the person who makes the choice. The location of a person, how old the person is, the economic circumstance and the stage of development makes no difference as to the humanness of a person.
