The myth of Romney's evangelical problem

Mitt Romney has an evangelical problem. Or so we’ve been told by everyone from The New Yorker to The Huffington Post to The Daily Beast. The national media have perpetuated this narrative throughout the election season, and political pundits aplenty have assumed its reliability in their columns and commentary.

But there’s one glaring problem with the storyline: It’s not true.

“Evangelicals say they want a presidential candidate who shares their religious beliefs and they still hold that Romney’s religion is different from their own,” says Robert Jones, CEO of the Washington-based Public Religion Research Institute. “And yet as early as May 2012, shortly after it became clear that Romney was the presumptive nominee, Romney held a 45-point lead over Obama" among evangelicals.

We’ve been told that evangelicals were so skeptical of Romney’s Mormon faith they might not be able to pull the lever for him in the voting booth. But according to Jones’ research, as more white evangelical voters have realized that he is Mormon, his favorability among them has actually risen.

There are two things that bother me, neither one that he is a Mormon but that he follow them in there anti-JESUS teachings.

    1. He will not say or admit that "JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD from where hangs the whole Christian faith.

    2. The fact that they omit parts of the Bible as "out of date", not "applicable today" One such Scripture is "The Sermon On The Mount" Matthew 6:9-13.

    • Tammie

I'm confused. On what grounds do you say Mitt will not say that "Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God"? And what parts exactly are you referring to when you say 'they omit parts of tbe Bible as "out of date", not "applicable today"? How in the world do you come to the conclusion that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is anti-Jesus?

      • Evermyrtle

Both of these things are Mormon things Check with Esther!!!

Mit Romney does not have an evangelical problem. America has an evangelical problem. I say we wouldn't bring Peter into any inner circle, while Jesus brought him into His own intimate board of three. We squandered the opportunity to have a real Christian and a governor tested on his third term as the candidate to beat Obama. We had no confidence in our own. We didn't trust God and elected the Mormon to save us. In the primaries I vote my faith. In the general election, I vote my conscience. Most republicans voted their lack of confidence. Now we're asking if it's ok to vote fr the guy. What would God think of me if I vote for the Mormon. Well, you have no choice. It's either the deceived "Christian" or the servant of Satan, the champion of abortion.

Those are NOT the only choices.
Check out Virgil Goode running for the Constitution Party candidate.

Thanks, but if I have to Google the guy to know about him, well what do you think his chances are?

        • Bighoss

Zero as far as being elected President, but he has a good chance at collecting enough votes in Virginia to significantly help Obama by draining votes from Romney. You GO, Virgillll!

      • Bighoss

Yep, check out ole Virgil and if you live in Virginia, vote for him and help swing the state to OBAMA!!!

    • mallen11

I truly understand your thoughts for I have had the same. However, if we want 4 more years of -0 then don't vote for Romney — in my opinion, he will be the better one to work with to keep our country from spiraling into communism. I don't believe in the cult of mormonism but they do follow divine establishment principles of good morals — that of course does not make one a Christian but I don't believe he will lead us the way of communism. After this election, I believe there are enough Americans who are awake from their years of sleep of letting the government do whatever they pleased including the encroachment of progressives who want our country to become a socialist/communist society. We the People need to work together to form a new conservative Constitutional Party or get the GOP straightened out by sticking with their original platform instead of moving too far to the left and compromising. The other main issue is making sure the Senate and Congress increases with conservatives. In the meantime…

II Peter 3:8… but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity.

Jer 17:5 Thus says the LORD,"Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the LORD

Col 2:10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over ALL rule and
      authority;

It looks like the Christians have been shut out of the elections this year. If you believe that Jesus is the son of God then it would be wrong to vote for either candidate. Guess I will sit this one out this year. God help us!

Check out Virgil Goode running on the Constitution Party ballot.

      • Bighoss

Yes, and if you live in Virginia, vote for him and help give that state's electoral votes to the Democrats. You go, Virgil!

    • mallen11

If you do sit this one out you are allowing -0 to rule this country under Soros and if you don't think your vote counts you are badly mistaken. America needs your vote against -0.

    The American Messenger
Obama's Security Breach In Libya Is Ignored By American Media – As the liberal American press and ultra-liberal bloggers inundate the Internet and newsprints with criticisms of what Mitt Romney, the GOP presidential challenger to President Barack Obama, said about Obama during the Libyan attacks and murders, throngs of foreign press and few American outlets tell the real story involved with the White House’s role in the incidents that we now know could have been prevented. After the American media grabbed and held the pro-Obama headlines against Romney’s comments and took Obama’s “Romney shoots first and aims second” quote to iconic proportions, the rest of the world is reporting that the Obama administration knew about the planned-attack on the Benghazi, Libya Embassy where four Americans, including United States Ambassador Christopher Steven was murdered. That strong allegation needs to be “the story”, not the political-trouncing of Mitt Romney, a man who has nothing to do with the White House, the U.S. Embassy, or the deadly and non-deadly attacks on our United States Embassy’s around the world. “The story” obviously involves the White House and the president within – Barack Obama – not the Massachusetts challenger. The reporters and bloggers who have made Mitt Romney the story – instead of the attacked-United States Embassy, the innocent Americans who were attacked, and the White House with its president in abstention as he continually treks the campaign trail regardless of the duties left behind in Washington, D.C. – are guilty of letting another American tragedy remain buried.

Vote for the person whose take on the issues at this time mostly parallel yours. Romney's take are much closer to mine that Obama's, even if he is a Morman. Not voting is in reality a vote for Obama.

    • Evermyrtle

I would do that but my first priority is what GOD thinks about that. He is the only one who can save this country and I am looking for HIM to make the decision about paying for what we have bought or sending JESUS CHRIST to the rescue. .
