Are Pastors Finally Getting the Message about Politics?

In 2000, John MacArthur wrote a book with the title Why Government Can’t Save You. When this book first appeared, I wrote that I didn’t know any Christians who believed government can or should save us. The subtitle led the reader to believe that getting involved politically was not an option for Christians. The book proposed to offer An Alternative to Political Activism.

While MacArthur did not “believe we should remove ourselves from the political process,” he did object to “the prevailing mindset that makes political and social activism the primary business of Christianity and reduces faith in Christ to just another political force.” If that’s the nature of today’s Christian political activism, then I will join MacArthur in opposing it, but that’s not why Christians are involved in politics.

The government cannot save us, unless they recognize and accept HIM and and HIS commandments and strive to live and rule accordingly. There is no doubting that fact!!

For those who are truly seeking to follow Christ, He seems to be making it easier and easier to trust only Him.

All government is, is a group people in a geographical area who try to agree on the laws and how to defend and promote the area and keep commerce fair.

Many millions of people have had their lives saved thanks to Social Security and Medicare.

The government is power mad and does not care one iota what is good for the country. It is working for power to control, our every aspect of life and if we don't stand up and be counted it will have power to do to us whatever they want to do. Just think how much you like jumping the rope, while the enemy is turning it!!

a country's leaders reflect its people. a church that does not care to get involve in politics leaves only the immoral to persuade its leaders. we got these leaders as a result of looking for a rapture that cannot be found in scripture even with going to extremes to make it say there is. this the world will get worse and worse and worse is nothing more than a self fulfilling prophecy.

Remember the Muslim dictate — convert to Muslim or die. That is what we need to avoid.
We have always had problems when the govt. endorsed one religion (note–Roman gvt 3rd century ad) That is why our leaders in the 1780's set up the constitution to be religion neutral. As Christians we obey the govt. as long as its dictates do not contradict what we believe because the Bible says for us to do. We live according to what God's word tells us. The main business of the govt. is to defend us and certain (not all) infrastructure that bennifits the whole country. It has the power to lay taxes to pay for these things, but today our govt. is into too many things that should be left to the people or local communities. People need to be doing charity, and local infrastructure etc. on their own in the community. As far as Salvation is concerned that is the property of the church only. Govt. has no say in what we believe on that level.

in first century Rome Romans 13 would make today's political activism to shame. for Paul is declaring that there is a higher power to obey than the self-made god caesars. caesar was declared a god until Emperor Constantine who declared there was no other the God than the Lord Jesus Christ. given that our government sees the united nations as the highest power, our government is in violation of Romans 13. all we have to do is read early church history to see how the church by changing the hearts and minds of people were able in just three hundred years to change the Roman Empire. the church in not to be a political force but a political movement where we do not tolerate sin and change the way citizen sees their world. the gospel of Jesus Christ as it changes hearts will force change in society by these changed hearts.

But when Constantine decreed that Christianity was the state religion, he also decreed that everyone will believe, but many can say they believe to save their neck, but not really believe. The problem is that he said you Must be Christian. Christianity cannot be forced upon a people. As time progressed after Constantine the govt. gradually became more demanding and more power was given to the church leaders which resulted in the Papacy. The popes were given the power of infalibility which led to much false doctrine. The writers of our Constitution recognized this danger thus made our constitution religion neutral. The problem there was that at that time most American citizens were Christian. Now we are facing different problems with the immigration of people of many different religions who also want their Freedom of Worship. How far are we going to be able to allow these people that freedom especially those with doctrines such as the Muslims have? We need to be well grounded in faith and the history and doctrine of Christianity to combat these. Our country must never take away the right for true debate about our beliefs. That is what I fear.

Constantine stopped the persecution of Christians. it was not until Theodosius that the state religion became Christianity. he was confronted by St. Ambrose bishop of Milan over policies. i agree that the state needs to be neutral when it comes to religion for at the time of the founding most states had their own established religion and some states were more tolerant than others like the Catholic colony of Maryland, Quaker colony of Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island leading the way.

Wherever we are in this world we are subjects of GOD, makes no difference whether we like it or not. HE give us a choice to accept HIM or deny HIM. To accept HIM means eternal life, To reject HIM means this no eternal life with HIM for you. Ministers are not to answer to government, GOD is above the government, whatever it may think, and HIS laws come ahead of the laws of the government. If we as a nation had recognized this fact we would not be in the mess that we are in today..Why are we afraid to stand for GOD who is far more powerful than anything that the government can throw at you. We are cowards and are afraid of the government, of the beast, and have let it over ride any common sense that GOD gave us. We must stand up and fight for what we believe in.
