Christians march in Jerusalem in support of Israel

Waving blue and white Israeli flags, thousands of evangelical Christians from around the world filled streets of downtown Jerusalem on Thursday in a show of support for the Jewish state.

The annual march during the week-long Jewish Sukkot holiday brings together Christians from dozens of countries.

Evangelical Christians are known as strong supporters of Israel, providing financial help and political backing, especially in the U.S. Even so, their hard-line views toward Palestinians and suspect religious motivations make some moderate Israelis and Jews abroad uncomfortable.

"This is the real United Nations," said Sheila Hakes, 41, from Alabama. "Israelis are our brothers and sisters, so we must protect them from Iran and evil," a reference to Iran's suspicious nuclear program, adding, "Jesus will come here again."

Every where we turn we see the question who does Israel belong to? Who are HIS heirs?

We know that there are descendants of Abraham, from Isaac or Ishmael.

i do not blame the Jews who question the motives of evangelicals for many evangelicals are essentially helping Abinnajad fulfill prophecy to hasten the "rapture" that cannot be found in the scriptures without first reading it into the scriptures. these evangelicals are not following Jesus teaching about loving your enemies or blessed are the peacemakers for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. they are stoking the fires of war that Abinnajad wants to bring forth the Maudie. i really liked how Pope Benedict XVI encouraged the believers in Lebanon to be peacemakers. Benedict's name mean peace, which our world needs more now than ever.

  Certainly not a pre-trib rapture, though at some point believers will get caught up to meet him in the air. As far as being peace makers, how that's done differs from situation to situation. If you're dealing with a basically decent group that's not living entirely up to their stated standards then nonviolent means will work (India; the southern US during the Civil Rights era.) OTOH, if you're dealing with violent criminals or a bloodthirsty gang or nation you handle things quite differently.

    of course on the last day when Jesus Christ returns and resurrects the dead to either life or destruction. that does not make for a rapture for heaven and earth will become one. we are now living in the millennium. the church is called to promote justice and righteousness in order to bring heaven to earth.

  i support Israel's right to exist and live in peace. i do not support the ethnic cleansing promoted by Israel or Christian Zionists. all that does is feed the hostilities between Palestinians and Israelis. it would not surprise me that not one person who marched went to visit any Palestinian home meet them.

    Kindly tell me why a Palestinian state has to be carved out of tiny Israel? The majority population (some 70%!) on the east side of the Jordan River is this same ethnic group, which is actually southern Syrian, not descendants of the Philistines whence the term Palestinian is derived. If the so-called Palestinians would put down their arms, there'd be no more conflict. If the Jews put down their arms there'd be no more Israel. Might the Jews have some overreaction in this ongoing battle? Sure, but that doesn't make it ethnic cleansing.

@daves: Jewish people today are the descendants of those who listened to The Christ when He prophecied the end of Jerusalem in AD70. Most Jews today are basically MESSIANIC Jews, and the rest follow the Messianic principles, IE: they no longer sacrifice the most pure lambs in a temple every year to pay for their sins. This is what The Prophets saw and taught, and what The Christ came to Earth for… Jesus changed NOTHING in The Law of Moses and Adam, that He handed over to him as The "I AM" that Y'shua reminded those ancient Jews of. So, even if some of the modern Jews don't BELIEVE in Yehoshua (Jesus full orig. name) – that is merely an individual opinion. ERROR, but only an opinion. That is why so many – Christians OR Jews may miss the boat of salvation from the worse horrors on Earth to come. Respect and Obedience And Honouring God are the most prime rules included in the Bible. Refuse to accept His Laws, and you cannot be heard by God. Indeed, He ignores the prayers of the unfaithful and rebellious.

  modern Jews are from two groups. the first group is the hellenistic Jews who lived abroad and only returned to Jerusalem for the appointed feasts. the second group are descendents of those Jews who were taken to be slaves that Jesus prophesied in the Olivet Discourse. the descendents of those who listened to Jesus as far as they know are gentiles maybe some of those Palestinian Christians being persecuted by Jews, Palestinian Muslims, and Christian Zionists.
