Einstein's 'God Letter' to Be Sold On Ebay

A letter written by famed physicist Albert Einstein, which contains in it his views on God and the Bible, is expected to fetch millions of dollars in an online auction later this month.

"The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this," the letter states, according to an English translation by Joan Stambaugh as found on the auctioneer's Ebay page.

The original, handwritten letter is composed in German and is accompanied by the original envelope it was sent in. Einstein sent the letter, which is written on Princeton University letterhead, to Eric B. Gutkind on January 3, 1954 concerning Gutkind's book, Choose Life: The Biblical Call to Revolt.

In the letter, Einstein not only explains his views of God and the Bible but also his views on the spiritual position of the Jewish people.

Seems that Einstein really was not that smart after all. Think he may know the truth now?

1 Corinthians 1:18-31King James Version (KJV)

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For
after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it
pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But
    God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;
and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things
    which are mighty; 28 And
base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God
chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that
are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

God gives brains, some people think they are too smart for God. The passage that you quoted describes them. So sad! That is why God made the truth so simple! dont have to work hard too believe it, just accept as truth!

      • Evermyrtle

you are right, the truth about GOD and HIS SON is so obvious, I can't understand the problem people have in believing.

        • LeeRaque

Very simple. People have brains, they read and they can expand their philosophies. They don't need an outdated bible to tell them how to function in any way.

    • Schawminator

I believe the Bible Einstein speaks of was surely not the Kings James version or another version.

      • LeeRaque

What bible do you think is referenced?

        • Schawminator

Good grief! I sure hope you know that answer or you shouldn't even be on this site.

Darwin explained why same species lizards and birds on different islands of the Galápagos Islands have different coloured parts to them or other minor variations; he expressed the observations in the form of a theory that attempts to explain the development of both microenvironmental differences among similar organisms and macroenvironmental progression of species into better versions of themselves. It remains a theory because it can neither be conclusively proven nor disproven. By the same token, we don't have a way to bend our observations back to see whether the world was made in five billion years or six to seven thousand, only the indirect observation of radioactive decay traces in obsidian suggesting its initial formation over 4 billion years ago. If the secular schools teach Darwinism and insure that it is called theory, they still instill an appreciation of scientific method in the students. Supplementary religious training (Saturday synagogue and Sunday school) should still present the idea of creationism and teach the presentation as an alternate theory, thus letting students learn enough to make up their own minds which – or which mixture of creation and Darwinism – they wish to believe. Learn both as a cultural legacy, and end the arguments!

        • mallen11

If any teaching differs from what the Bible says; it is wrong and the Bible is right, science or no science. We can learn a great deal about our earth and universe from science and it is wonderful but if science disagrees with what the Bible teaches, including creation, then the science is wrong.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is alive and powerful sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is God breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

  • LouiseCA

So sad. A brilliant mind, wasted now for eternity. The preaching of the Gospel is foolishness to them that perish (die eternally). God made it so simple that a child could understand it, yet so powerful that it will confound the (so-called) wise.

I heard that there's a very thing line between genius and idiot. I guess Einstein crossed the line.

This letter is how he felt at that moment in time. He has said many other things about God that seem to contradict this. And the Bible he would be talking about is most likely the Jewish Bible, not the Christian Bible.

Still even if he has completely rejected God and he is in a terrible place now, the last thing that anybody on these pages should do is gloat. To nonbelievers, that is one of the most disgusting things that anybody could ever do, and such hateful (yes, hateful) actions will be turning other people away from God.

    • Evermyrtle

I don't believe anybody is gloating, It is too sad a occasion to gloat , only makes Christian want to weep, at the injustices to GOD.

      • LeeRaque

What a weak, puny god you have. Are you really so afraid of this creature that devours you evil human followers of it that you shake in your boots? Then you turn around and state there are injustices to this made up god. You must really live in a world of circular reasoning.

        • mallen11

What a weak puny person you are. How sad that you think you are greater than the God of the universe who gave you life and died on the cross so you could have eternal life in heaven. If you don't want to believe in Him, fine, because you won't like it one tiny bit with you reach eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire forever. Is it worth your few years here on earth to be tortured for all eternity just because you don't want to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ?

          • LeeRaque

There is NO god that died for me or anyone else. Are you really so insecure you have to believe in some fake god, a crutch to make your life bearable. How sad.
You should try living by your own abilities and full belief in yourself.
Fairy tales, myths and fables just don't cut it. Religious nonsense such as a lake of fire and other Dante like references are myths…you know unreal, things believed by persons who have severe mental problems. Mental institutions are filled with those such a yourself who believe in pure junk. Some think they are old J.C. and some think they are Napoleon. There is scientific evidence of those who believe in this stuff have a genetic malfunction.

        • LeeRaque

The mirror proves nothing other than if one does not see their reflection perhaps they may be of the Vampire Sect!

      • mallen11

Prove there isn't a God. We know there is a God because we know what He says in His Word the Bible is true because it works in our daily lives. We see Jesus Christ "face to face" when we study His Word.

1 Corinthians 2:14….But the natural man (unbeliever) receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

2 Peter 1:20-21 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

I believe that our all powerful and mighty God lightly touched Obama's communication center in his tiny little brain and scrambled his processors during the First Presidential Debate. Keep praying America and watch our awsome God at work. Seriously, pray for America.

    • mallen11

I prayed for Romney throughout the debate and will continue to pray that people will see the truth about -0.

      • LeeRaque

We should all find out the truth of Moromney. He is a liar, a tax cheat, a seller of American jobs to foreign industries, a flip/flopper and one who can not tell the truth about his programs from one day to another.
Besides he is a cultist who wears MagiKal Underwear. Saw a picture of the outfits all mormons have to wear and they are really just as bad as many fundamental Muslims in their more special garments.

        • mallen11

Thanks for a good laugh from your comment. Who cares what he wears. I know the mormon church is not Biblical but it does teach moral living but I am voting for Romney because he is not out to run this country into the ground and turn us over to the communist. He has just about done so with borrowing from China and all they have to do is call in the debt and we belong to them. I would appreciate your giving proof about his being a tax cheat, seller of American jobs to foreign industries (-0 does that + gives our money to foreign countries that should be given to help Americans), being a flip flopper (-0 does that) and not telling the truth (-0 does that every time he opens his month).

        • Evermyrtle

We will all meet together before JESUS CHRIST as explained in these verses of Scripture,

          Matt 25;31-34

          31. When the SON OF MAN shall come in HIS glory, and all the HOLY ANGELS with HIM, then shall He shall sit upon the throne of HIS GLORY.
          32. And before HIM shall be gathered all nations: and HE shall separate them one form another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
          33. And HE shall set the sheep on HIS right hand, but the goats on the left.
          34. Then shall the KING say unto them on HIS right hand, Come, you blessed of my FATHER.inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

You need to read the restof the chapter to get the rest of the story.

    1) Science, being based on repeatable precision experiments, detailed recording of observation, and logical extrapolation of theories followed by efforts to both prove and disprove them, is usually close to being right, though not always.

    2) While science tends to include its own supporting evidence and development, there are also many characteristics of our universe that strongly suggest the presence of outside intelligent tampering, such as the big step changes and gaps in the fossil record of evolution, certain characteristic 'constants' pertaining to chemistry and nuclear physics, and the effective influence of religion itself. Whether 'gods' are pre-existing metaspirits from a previous incarnation of the universe, 'forever agents' independent of time and space, or just the expression of massive human gestalt and will to believe, they do 'exist' in some form.

    3) Theology, while a legacy of human civilisation, should never be placed opposite science. There are too many things the 'true core' of our long lived religions have in agreement with science. While I believe in a 5 billion year old earth, I also believe that the sun lit off while the planet and moon coalesced, then came the great rains until the oceans formed, then came the plants and animals first in the oceans, and finally on land – just like Genesis explains, only I assume that 'the gods' days' average some 800 million earth years long. Quit persecuting each other and form up sports teams so we stop losing people to stupid wars of 'god versus science'!

God’s own complete and coherent message to man was recorded in perfect accuracy in the original languages of scripture: Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. The very words carrying Divine Authorship.

1 Corinthians 2:14….But the natural man (unbeliever) receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

2 Peter 1:20-21 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men

Just because a man may be a giant in a scientific topic, such as physics, doesn't necessatily make him a giant in the spiritual realm.

  • LeeRaque

Dr. Einstein did not need a crutch to be a successful scientist. He did not need to read a bible that contains nothing but myths, fables and fairy tales written by a bunch of old semitic males.
He was a man of our times and did not need religious nonsense to find out about the truths of the earth. Men and women such as Dr. Einstein and Dr. Sagan and so many more don't rely upon structured religions that stop the process of learning the truths of the universe.
I know a number of planetary scientists as well as medically focused scientists and they would laugh at your statements. Your constant repetition of the threats of your evil god that condemns all those who do not follow in his so-called ways. The guy you follow is nothing more than a continuation of the myths of ancient Greece and Rome. He (and there were many of them) the jesus' was no more than a mere mortal and an instigator and provocateur of his time..basically a rabble rouser.
Those of you who support such nonsense with your time and money have nothing else to do.
Get a life! Read a book! Take some classes in Cosmology and while you are at it you might want to try some in Political Science. Reading something that is non-fiction will do you far more good than reading the fictional trash called the bible…66 books of lies and myth.

    • mallen11

      Explanation
of why the Bible is hated throughout the world by unbelievers:

      1. The Bible is not just one single book

      2. The Bile is a collection of 66 books – the Canon of Scripture

      3. These 66 books contain a variety of history, wisdom, poetry, prophecy, letters,

      4. These 66 books were written by 40 different authors

      5. These authors came from a variety of backgrounds – kings, prophets, shepherds,
      fishermen, doctors, etc.

      6. Most of these authors did not know each other; some did

      7. These 66 books were written over a period of 1500 years

      8. The 66 books were written inthree different languages; Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic

      9. These languages are a reflection of the historical, cultural and circumstances in which each of these books were written

      10. These 66 books were written on three different continents; Africa, Asia and Europe

      11. 66 books, 44 different people on three different continents these collections of books that share a common story line; the creation, the Fall, and the redemption of mankind.

      12. It makes it clear that all people have the opportunity to believe in Jesus Christ

      13. In addition to share these commonality the 66 books have no errors or contradictions

      14. There are 5,000 variants and not one contradicts the meaning of the Bible. They can be explained as scribal errors.

      15. The doctrine found within them is never contradictory but intimately connected.

      16. The entire Bible bears the mark of inspired by God.

What does all this mean? Go to library and find one book that matches the Bible.
