Police uncover plot to bomb 48 churches

A 23-year-old Illinois man has been arrested after the discovery of bomb-making materials and notes about destroying 48 churches in Oklahoma, NewsOK.com reported, citing an arrest affidavit. But family members say Gregory Arthur Weiler II suffers from mental illness.

The NewsOK.com report said Weiler, 23, was arrested in Miami, Okla., and charged Friday with possession of an explosive or incendiary devise and violation of the Oklahoma anti-terrorism act, put in place after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. He was being held without bail.

NewsOK.com reported that Miami Police Chief George Haralson said the targets were churches in Ottawa County in the far northeast corner of Oklahoma. Miami is the county seat.

According to the affidavit, police found detailed maps and torn-up notes with a recipe for Molotov cocktails and a list of 48 churches, along with details about "how many nights the congregations meet and how many people attend," NewsOK.com reported. Police also found a duffel bag containing 50 brown glass bottles, a  funnel and lighter fluid in a motel trash bin.

This is wierd… looks like some churches are going to need security guards!

    • mallen11

Right, in this day and time God doesn't expect us to be stupid and not be armed. Too many people today have no respect for our churches or the people who attend them.

  • obhfwb

I bet he works for obama he has people like that in his administration.

    • cyndlou

the both of them work for Satan himself. which is why Christians are supposed to pray for them – to give God victory and not satan.

    • "Sky Soldier"

Yep, just another Acorn community activist.

  • steve

Just do what we use to do in Montana. Everyone come to church armed with open cary. No problems ever errupted. An armed society is a polite society.

    • Esther Mae Egan

Amen. The church I attend is the same. I feel safe knowing there are those in attendance that will be there to help. Sick and tired of so-called churchy people who do not like guns. That is their right but it is also my right to have one and it does no good locked up in a closet. I was a member of the NRA long before I had a gun. Never thought I would want one and things changed. If we do not respect others rights for this or that they wont respect mine. I have come to reason if it is not spelled out in the Bible then you can smoke, dance, or go to movies. I do not do those things but I respect your right to do them because I wish to keep my gun.

Sure is — in the Old West, where every cowboy carried a six-shooter on his hip and a long gun on his saddle, and every shop owner and bar keeper had a shotgun under the counter, there was neither crime nor rudeness. Why, a virgin could ride naked and alone on a wagon filled with gold bullion from Chicago through Dodge City and Tombstone and on to San Francisco and arrive intact and unharmed. All those stories about outlaws, drunken cowboys, and shoot-outs on Main Street are just liberal lies.

Yeah but you don't bring a knife to a gun fight and I wouldn't want to bring a Glock anticipating someone strapped with 20 sticks of TNT. The best thing is to get down on your knees and fight like a real man. (Daniel for instance!)

  • mwood13

    was he moslem?

Nothing from main stream or drudge!

    According to the Chicago Tribune,
family members said Weiler had been hospitalized with mental illness
several times and had suffered with addictions to heroin and alcohol.
They said his mother and father committed suicide before he was 16. Family members said Weiler had joined a religious group in Missouri about three years ago.

    ********************************************************

While my heart goes out to him suffering the devastation of losing his parents at such a young age, he was planning to kill people – lots of people. Regardless of his mental state, those victims would still be dead by his hand.

It is interesting that he had joined some unnamed "religious group" three years ago. Wonder what group it was.

    • mallen11

You gave the "key" to the way Weiler thinks when he is associated with a "religious" group and not a Christ-centered spiritual group who teaches from the Word of God so application can be made to our daily lives.

So, What if this nutter just disappeared – no fuss, no muss.

Of course, this will just encourage the islamic nutters to do a copy catter.

Let's see them try to claim this is a "right wing extremist".
My guess…….Mooslim or just a deranged liberal……..Oops…..deranged and liberal are the same thing.

  • Mys77

Of course he suffers from mental illness… no excuse and the family members needed to be a bit more proactive in making sure this person was helped and should of at least monitored and watched.

  • sue mathews

Oh,my GO, When will all the hatred toward your people end.

  • John J Flanagan

An example of how one individual can hate God and Christians so much that plans are made for the killing of others in a cold and calculating way. Thank God this man's plans did not materialize.

I'll bet that "mental illness" the family says he suffers from is called islam.

      Or liberalism.

        Or both.

I live in a subdivision of 86 homes with a neighborhood association and rotating watch team. Over 80% of the households are armed. You can tell who we are by reading our bumper stickers especially the Don't Tread On Me ones. No crime, zero problems as we are a neighborhood by simple discription because we know our neighbors.

  • Mr Lucky

You Christen cowards aren't going to defend yourselves! You're expecting someone else to do it for you!

  • Shavager

Michael Savage says Liberalism is a brain disease, the Gabby Gifford shooter, Jared Loughner–the Colorada theater shooter, the 3 Occupy members plotting in Cleveland to blow up a bridge in Ohio–on and on–I think Savage might be right and this guy Weiler is just another in the list! BaROKE OWEbumbler said in his book, "Audacity of Hope" on page 261: "I WILL STAND WITH THE MUSLIMS SHOULD THE POLITICAL WINDS SHIFT IN AN UGLY DIRECTION." It's obvious the administration is BREEDING anti-Americanism, anti-success, and radical HATE among leftwing radicals already at war in their own minds with the American people and American way of life.

Spawn of a liberal or progressive.

I don't feel comfortable carrying a gun in public; but I'll gladly defend anyone else's right to possess one. I wouldn't mind eventually getting one for my place when I'm able to live on my own. Guess I'm more the type that likes knives. If I at least carry a dagger and someone wants to mess with me while I'm wielding it, they'd be a fool to get close enough for me to reach.
