Is Christianity Anti-Gay?

Bill Donohue comments on the way the media have covered the story on  the decision by Pastor Louie Giglio to back out of giving the benediction at the inaugural ceremonies:

A left-wing website, Think Progress, attacked Pastor Giglio for remarks he made in the 1990s affirming Christian teachings on homosexuality. It cited as proof of Giglio’s bigotry passages from the Bible that brand  homosexuality as sinful. Now anyone is free to disagree with the Bible, but it is unprofessional of the media to simply adopt the Think Progress agenda. More than that, it shows an egregious bias.

To be specific, media outlets that tagged Giglio’s orthodox Christian remarks as anti-gay include: ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, MSNBC, the Washington PostInvestor’s Business Daily, the Associated Press, and UPI. Those that reported the story professionally by offering a descriptive account include CNN, Fox News, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times.

To Louie, Rejoice. Now you have evidence that all those media channels are on one side, and you and the Lord are on the other. Not one of them has any inkling about God and His kingdom. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools……Be happy in the persecution that you are encountering because you are counted worthy of sharing in the sufferings of our Lord.

Being Christian doesn't mean we hate gay people. It means the same as any other sin, from adultry or murder to to saying a bad word to or about someone. It is all sin in God's eyes and separates us from God, but praise to the Lord He has a way to bring us back into God's favor, that is the blood of Jesus Christ who died to wash us from all sins. Once one realizes his sin, repents and asks forgiveness (all through the power of the Holy Spirit) he is clean again. Because of our weakness we often fall back into sin, but God forgives us again and again. We dislike the things we see people doing that we know are sins, but our true desire should be that they come to know the truth and be forgiven so we can all reach our home in heaven. That is true for all sinners who repent and turn to God for forgiveness whether they be gay, a petty thief or whatever. But those who persist in sin and refuse to repent will reap the consequences.

  • John J Flanagan

We need not apologize for following God's teachings and His warnings. Homosexuality is sin. Period. There are many other sins as well. As Christians, we are also sinners. We also know what is right and wrong and must stand on the truth. Why do we need to allow the media or the secular world to intimidate us, accuse us, or persecute us for following Christ? Stand fast! Be unrelenting but gentle and civil. Never fear the world system. We have God on our side.

  • fliteking

    True Christians are not anti-gay.

Suggesting the same is a tool of the left for 4 reasons.
    1. To estalibiish a rallying point for the easily deceived
    2. To push for public acceptance of 'rights' not covered by the Constitution
    3. To elicit guilt and acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle by Churches
    4. To further attempts to discredit Christianity.

Gays are simply sinners, just like everyone else.

The homosexual community wants the Christians to adopt a pro-gay stance.

    • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Nonsense. The amount of anti-gay rhetoric that spews out daily from Christian pulpits is mind-numbing.

  • John Adams

Christianity is anti-sin and homosexuality is sin.

Hollyweird delusions of grandeur: JEFFREY DIXON

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Like when I recommended the movie Lincoln? You consider that Hollyweird? It would not surprise me given your Southern Confederate leaning. The Union won the war. Get over it.

          • Esther

I can pick and choose. Thankfully the guy who played Lincoln is NOT a typical Hollyweird-O. His last thing was years ago: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_of_the_Mohicans_(1992_film)
He doesn't do politics (to my knowledge.) He is a real actor. Btw, my dad taught me the difference.

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Yep, a true die hard Conservative.

Day-Lewis rarely talks publicly about his personal life. He had a relationship with French actress Isabelle Adjani, which lasted six years and eventually ended after a split and reconciliation.[10][16] Their son Gabriel Day-Lewis was born in 1995 in New York, several months after the relationship between the two actors had ended. Gabriel now lives with him in New York, attending Elisabeth Irwin High School.[16]

In 1996, while working on the film version of the stage-play The Crucible, he visited the home of playwright Arthur Miller where he was introduced to the writer's daughter, Rebecca Miller. They married later that year. The couple have two sons, Ronan Cal Day-Lewis (born 14 June 1998) and Cashel Blake Day-Lewis (born in May 2002) and divide their time between their homes in the U.S. and Ireland.[7] Day-Lewis currently holds dual British and Irish citizenship;[34][35] he became an Irish citizen in 1993.[36] He is a supporter of south-west London football club Fulham F.C..[37] On 15 July 2010, he received an honorary doctorate in letters from the University of Bristol, in part because of his attendance at theBristol Old Vic Theatre School in his youth.[38] Day-Lewis has stated that he had "no real religious education", and that he "suppose[s]" that he is a "die-hard agnostic".[39]

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Day-Lewis

          • Esther

Day-Lewis is not all over the globe churning up his fans to follow him in the politics he espouses like so many would-be pied pipers for Obama's causes. You watch TV, you know who they are.

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Here is a story about Daniel Day-Lewis at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles' Britannia Awards where he says he is glad Obama won the election. Hmm, seems as if he is expressing his political views to his fans.

"But I have to say that I'm so extremely grateful and glad that taking time out of his busy schedule, that the recently re-elected president of this country was able to make it here tonight. Thank you," Day-Lewis said, gesturing towards the chair and clapping himself while the audience cheered.

"No, please, don't get up," he joked. "I know as an Englishman that it's absolutely none of my business but I'm just so very grateful that it was you."

That story fits more into the loons of the Mormon church who take child brides all the time.

Not addressed at all since what you posted was wrong.

          • Esther

Glad to hear it, Mr. Dixon. I would hate to think it is. But it is happening in America, why are you not attacking those nefarious elements? Don't you think those young women need defending? And since you are implying the same of the LDS church why are you not querying priest-hood holders online like Vlad? Or the Bishop in your local LDS meeting house? They are available for you… no strings attached.

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

I do think that young woman need defending. Which is why I brought up the topic. I asked chatted with Vlad before. However, I have not seen him online for awhile.

          • Esther

Your allowance that criminals are in charge of young LDS women is bogus. Now why wouldn't Vladimir come to you to get advice on defending young women when his church has a perfectly great organization to teach and look after young women. The men do not look after the young women as you would like to… It is the Young Women leaders who are women themselves, looking after our young women, thanks very much. Look up Young Women on the LDS site. Gee I thought you were totally familiar with our Young Women organization. You seem to be familiar with our LDS everything from the lds.org site. You seem to want to ascribe our priesthood to be the handlers… as criminals do … of young women. You are so off base as to be entirely ludicrous. You really owe the LDS an apology. BY the way, the young thrive under the care they are given in the LDS church.

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

I did not suggest that Vlad come to me for advice. I merely pointed out that I have not seen him on-line for awhile. If he has an opinion, he can certainly express it.

          • Esther

You have evaded most of the points I made in my comment. No surprise.

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Now that is really humorous. I have responded to most every nonsensical post you have offered up.

          • Esther

You responded only to the point of Vlad not being here. Period.

          • Esther

I do not support Margaret Sanger. You do. She is racist and she did support the same platform as Hitler's Nazis when it cam e to other than the German race, Jeff:

RACIST AND EUGENICIST STATEMENTS BY MARGARET SANGER, THE FOUNDER OF PLANNED PARENTHOOD
"We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members." Margaret Sanger's December 19, 1939 letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble, 255 Adams Street, Milton, Massachusetts. Original source: Sophia Smith Collection, Smith College, North Hampton, Massachusetts. Also described in Linda Gordon's Woman's Body, Woman's Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America . New York: Grossman Publishers, 1976.

"Our failure to segregate morons who are increasing and multiplying … demonstrates our foolhardy and extravagant sentimentalism … [Philanthropists] encourage the healthier and more normal sections of the world to shoulder the burden of unthinking and indiscriminate fecundity of others; which brings with it, as I think the reader must agree, a dead weight of human waste. Instead of decreasing and aiming to eliminate the stocks that are most detrimental to the future of the race and the world, it tends to render them to a menacing degree dominant … We are paying for, and even submitting to, the dictates of an ever-increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all."
            – Margaret Sanger. The Pivot of Civilization , 1922. Chapter on "The
Cruelty of Charity," pages 116, 122, and 189. Swarthmore College Library edition.
"Today eugenics is suggested by the most diverse minds as the most adequate and thorough avenue to the solution of racial, political and social problems.

"I think you must agree … that the campaign for birth control is not merely of eugenic value, but is practically identical with the final aims of eugenics … Birth control propaganda is thus the entering wedge for the eugenic educator.

Polygamy and Mormonism are inseparably entwined. One of the most offensive aspects of Mormon-based polygamy is the rampant practice of taking underage girls as polygamous wives. This is precisely what Brian David Mitchell did when he abducted Elizabeth Smart. In the western United States, there are at least 30,000 people involved in the practice of Mormon-based polygamy. In these polygamous groups, the compulsion for underage girls to marry polygamists–usually men much older than themselves–is a part of everyday life. In these communities, girls as young as 12 or 13 are often married off to priesthood leaders. The most powerful and influential of these priesthood holders have first pick of the girls. Parents of the young girls submit their daughters willingly into these unions with the hope of being blessed by God in their afterlife.

One asks, where did this practice come from? Why do these offenders take such young girls as wives? What does Mormon doctrine have to do with this?

These are indeed puzzling questions, but the answers are simple. The founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith Jr. set the precedent for this behavior.

Polygamy is outlawed by the church.
There are people who kill in our society, that does not mean we condone killing in our society (except for abortion, of course).
            Same thing.

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

No, actually it has not outlawed it. The LDS Church discontinued the practice of polygamy in 1890, but this was only a move to relieve pressure that was placed on them by the US Government. It was also a move toward the goal of establishing statehood for Utah. The practice was discontinued, but the doctrine is still in place and can be found in the Doctrine and Covenants, Section 132. This is canonized LDS scripture. I recommend that anyone interested in this phenomenon read this piece of LDS scripture. Here is the link to Doctrine and Covenants, Section 132:
            http://scriptures.lds.org/dc/132

Which simply shows how little you know about your own religion. That is actually not surprising. You show an amazing amount of ignorance on most everything you post about.

          • Esther

You are wrong. Ask a priest-hood holder like Vladimir. Also, have a chat with the priesthood holders you have as friends on facebook. Start with Greg C., Steve, you know those guys, they would love to chat with you are the subjct and straighten you out. That is why I asked you to be their friend. No problem. Also, they are really nice people like Vlad. Nothing like the kind of criminals you dug up to "prove" your point. Why don't you get serious and talk to some people you CAN trust? It is obvious those men are family. Look those people in the eye and tell me I am wrong. I dare you. Don't make me laugh at you again, Jeff Dixon.

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

No, I am not wrong. Asking someone who stills believes the nonsense of the church is like asking a Muslim if Muhammad was a real prophet. Their answer is pointless. I have given you information from people who wised up and left the church.

          • Esther

You are wrong. You are talking rudely about Americans again.

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

I am providing facts about Mormons. That you dislike the information is irrelevant.

          • Esther

You are obviously gasping for breath to save your atheism. Your atheism will not hold up to the true tenants of contemporary Mormonism (LDS, NOT FLDS). When push comes to shove, LDS are not the antithesis of what you believe. You just absolutely hate that!!! Because we are people you cannot quite legitimately attack, little high school boy!

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Of course the Mormon religion can be attacked. There is no support for it whatsoever.

          • Esther

No, you attack it on grounds that you believe we think we know it all. No, we do not. You would certainly be alarmed that much of what we teach our kids is humanistic, as Christ taught us to be in the parables, and it is not all the madeup stuff that atheist-type men like yourself thought up to write in the scriptures to scare us silly and make us slaves to the state religions. The latter stuff is what Joseph Smith warned us about… that we were to accept the KJV "as the most correct version, but only to the extent it is properly translated."

          • Esther

You are providing facts about FLDS (NOT THE SAME AS LDS, Mr. Know-it-all Atheist)

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

I pulled the information from the LDS website, not an FLDS site.

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

Besides, I showed the information from the LDS site. If you have an issue with the doctrine, take it up with your church elders.

          • Esther

NB: I am not a FLDS! I am an LDS! Know the difference? Evidently you have not done your research. You have the issue with the doctrine, not I. There is an LDS meeting house in your town. Meet the bishop and ask him.

          • Esther

But you show no understanding of its valid, WORTHY LDS male members, just THE pathologIcal ones who align erroneously with the worthy LDS men who are legitimate priest-hood holders; you allow people like Jeffs — a criminal who you indicated several comments back was aligned with worthy LDS — and the implication that all the men are like " … criminals like the idiot who kidnapped Elizabeth Smart…"

No wonderVladimir does not respond to you. You cannot differentiate, as I told you long ago.

You never responded when I asked: Would you say that to all women in regard to all situations should "take it up with their elders," implying some really bad aspects to some good men? You act like you are the savior of some kind of the women who by just association with LDS we are associated with criminals. Once again, you are wrong.

          • Esther

I am repeating this once again:

Official Declaration 1 of 1890 (in Doctrine and Covenants), overides D & C 132 of 1843. I don't care what Joseph Smith did or said, and neither do 99.9% of the Mormons, D&C 132 of 1843 is NOT condoned in the Mormon church of today starting September 24, 1890! https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/od/1?lang=eng

Also "12th Article of Faith states: We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law." from the Thirteen Articles of Faith, https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/a-of-f/1?lang=eng

Polygamy is against the law in the United States, a country rightly instituted as a constitutional republic for "all the people," it is therefore against the 12th Article of Faith to disobey a law of this country. People who commit polygamy are doing so illegally, using the same justification which you have pointed out.

            012513

          • http://rationalresponses.blogspot.com/ Jeff Dixon

You can repeat it all you like and shout it from the rooftop as well. It does not change the facts. LDS doctrine never changed their doctrine on polygamy. It merely suspended the practice.

          • Esther

Only in your mind, not mine: "Polygamy and Mormonism are inseparably entwined." Ask a scholar.

          • Esther

Jeff: The links that appear on the exmormon.org page you sent do not work. What I did glean from the stories that did appear at your primary link, is that many people are too lazy to be mormons… It takes not only some commitment to principle, it takes work! The religion teaches public service and most people do not give a heck for public service.
