Teacher program focuses on ‘white privilege,’ creating separate standards for minority students

On the surface “CREATE Wisconsin” seems noble enough in its intent.

The program, established in 2009 by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, was supposedly developed to help school teachers and administrators better understand the challenges facing minority students – particularly black kids – in the state’s K-12 schools.

It argues that minority students sometimes struggle because public education is geared toward white students, and lessons are often delivered in a manner that minority students can’t understand.

It argues that too many minority students are placed in special education because school officials fail to understand their strengths, challenges and cultural norms.

In short, the achievement gap that exists between white and minority students has less to do with ability than culture, and the lack of a level playing field in schools.

Minority students struggle because schools are geared to whites? Besides
being racist, if I were black, I would find it offensive…they don't need
special handling anymore than anyone else. Blacks, whites, Indian, Spanish all
live here in America, in the American culture…if you don't like it, you can
move (to another country). ADAPT! If you are an immigrant, you are supposed to
integrate into the great melting pot. If you are Islamic, there is a problem
because of the ideology which is incompatible with our culture and government
(again don't come here or move).

Kids are not learning because of the lesson plans have gotten away from the
basics, rules being forced down by the Feds (schooling is a state obligation),
bad teachers and other union issues (like using kids during a strike or
protest), teaching morality has been stripped out of the school rooms, and
trying to treat kids with "zero tolerance" rules because we do not have people
in management who can make intelligent decisions based on an individual
    situation.

Things will only get worse until we acknowledge and fix these issues. Our kids get to pay the price in more ways than one.

All our children need to be educated on how to live within our economic environment. To educate in this manner necessitates that one learns the ways that work best with our economy. The so called "geared for white students" type education is misnamed. It should be called education geared to teach how to survive within our economic system. It is a must learn system. If the teacher teaches down with a system designed because of the claim that certain groups would not be able to understand the "geared for white students" curriculum that teacher is in reality discriminating against the group. Take for example, the black race. Think about the black people who have made it and are doing well. Why are they doing well? They have embraced the subject matter taught in the "geared for white students" system and used it to build their life. Many of these successful blacks are exhorting their fellow blacks to learn and use this system. For that they get accused of being "oreos" or "living on the white man's plantation." They have shown the way to be successful and are being vilified for it. Their lives have proven the lies of those who claim that they wouldn't be able to understand the system. Not everyone is able to comprehend all the facts in the "geared for white students" system, but this problem is not restricted to one race or one group. God has given each of us unique gifts which when put together can produce a living economy. Sinful mankind probably will never succeed to really put together a viable economic system though at times they will be partially successful. The USA in the past has been fairly successful, but the selfishness of man has often been detrimental to the system. Heaven is the only place that man will successfully live together in the manner that God desires.

There's not enough racism in America to keep anyone from being who they want to be. If the blacks are struggling, it is because of their culture. A black person told me that "one doesn't rise above another" in the black community and that if you had two dollars, you were expected to give one away. If this is how it is in the black community then perhaps things should change so that black people stop oppressing their own.

    Just so much PC garbage!!

Funny, but when growing up as the only Asian kid in an L.A. area public school, there was no "debate" like this going on. "We" just put our noses to our books and thrived.

I guess my question is, "Are you a hyphenated-American?"

Any teacher that believes that schools are geared to whites isn't much of a teacher. Both of my parents were teachers long ago and there was not any noticible difference between the blacks and whites in school regarding learning. Either a child uses their brain or they don't. While some may have a learning disorder that can happen in any race. This is more garbage of teachers wanting to have contro of our kids and turn them into little robots.

In Kenya ALL the students are Black
In Japan ALL the students are Asian
ONLY in White countries is it deemed 'oppression' if an ALL White anything exists
The simple solution is to have Black students going to Black schools and White students going to White schools, then each race can have lessons presented in the way that is best suited to them, but the issue isn't what works best for education, the issue is fighting 'evilracistnaziswhowanttokill6millionjews'….
The attempt to destroy, in whole or in part, EVERY White country through 3rd World immigration and 'assimilation' is GENOCIDE
    'Anti-racist' is a codeword for Anti-White

"Teacher program focuses on ‘white privilege,’ creating separate standards for minority students"

Racist dogma, very similar to tactics the Nazi's used.

  • Miko

If all this is true then evolution is true and blacks are on a lower rung of the ladder!!!

  • Wayne

That is about as racist as anything I have heard. You have to produce a program that is dumb enough for the blacks to understand because they cannot work at the same level as Whites, Asians, and others? Sounds like a good way to keep em down on the plantation to me.

Let's face it, this article is both racially inspired and doomed to only cause distrust. If we ever want to really end the bickering that causes so much anger, we must learn to abandon the racist language — using terms such as "black" and "white" in judgement of our fellow human beings. The fact is, in Wisconsin there are many native American people whose culture certainly is different. Federal standards have nothing to do with Chippewa culture, for example, so the study is indeed legitimate. The kind of race-baiting that this article promotes may reveal the racism harbored by this blog's editorial board.

Horse manure. Too many minorities are lazy and get no help or encouragement romtheir equally lazy parent (s). Equality of opportunity does not guarantee equality of outcome.
