Nativity Scene Quickly Removed at Shaw Air Force Base After Atheists Complain

Controversy has erupted at Shaw Air Force base located in Sumter, SC over the removal of a nativity scene. A group called the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, called the base stating that this scene was in direct violation of the “Department of Defense Directives, Instructions, and Regulations, the United States Constitution, and Air Force Instruction 1-1, specifically, section 2.11.”

American Atheists Military Director Paul Loebe writes:

“To the Air Force’s credit it agreed with MRFF’s arguments to remove the nativity scene swiftly and apparently found this scene to be as much a violation of all the pertinent regulations and the United States Constitution as MRFF did. Within 2 hours and 15 minutes of initially being contacted by MRFF, the nativity scene had been promptly removed. MRFF wants to congratulate the Air Force on acting so swiftly to reverse this egregious violation and hopes that in the future they will ensure that no such violations continue to occur.”

Fox News contributor Sarah Palin told Todd Starnes, ”What happened at Shaw Air Force base is not surprising.”

“The War on Christmas is just the top of the spear in a larger battle to marginalize expressions of faith and make true religious freedom a thing of the past,” said Palin.

Activists across the state are now planning to protest the base’s decision on December 15.

When I was a young man the atheists were considered the nuts who sat in their homes and complained about everything. No one paid any attention to them and our nation was a much better place to live. Now every idiot group has an outsized voice on every issue and the morons making decisions seem to want to make every fringe clown happy. To hell with them literally.

    • SniperToo

It’s going to get worse. As long as the 6.5% Negro-African, 47.5% Arab-Muslim, usurper, pathological liar, dictator, member of the Muslim Brotherhood, Kenya born illegal immigrant, sham flam in the white house; this will go on. Shame on Shaw Air Force Base and it’s cowardly Commander. Shame on you all. Put something islamic on the lawn and you will get the OK. BS

      • Doris C

A point well made. I wonder how atheists feel about Islam?

        • Gary Fix

          They wouldn’t dare say.

    • bugchaser56

That was when the leftists and liberals were considered pinko communists and the Ameerican people had no use for the same. Now that political correctness has taken over our national thinking (PC is definitely political but certainly not correct), they have a voice that makes those in power tremble. It used to be that the majority ruled, now one idiot with the ACLU on their side can overturn what the majority wants. Not right, not fair, NOT AMERICAN.

  • dan from ohio

I have forbidden my sons. To serve this country as l once did

  • mwood13

    satan never gives up

    • bugchaser56

Neither should Christians. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Remember greater is He who is in us then he who is in the world.

    • grassroot

But he knows he has been defeated at the Cross, it’s only in
deceiving where he can destroy. But, he knows his time is short.

  • Doris C

Why didnt the people on the base who believe get a say in this? Atheists are no more important than anyone else.Since when has it become a bad thing to believe in God?Every single person aboard that base who has a belief in God and country should protest this. Homosexuals, athiests and every group that undermines the America I grew up in should be met with the same they are putting out. There is a rule of majority rules and there are more believers than non believers and they should get out there and protest.

    • bugchaser56

Doris, you are thinking of how it used to be in this country. Christians are looked down as intolerant, homophobic, bigots, while the “tolerant” PC people will welcome everyone, except Christians and those who don’t believe like they do, with open arms. Believing in God is not tolerated, but it’s okay to worship allah, buddha, krishna, etc. This is the devil’s playground and the public schools are becoming the secular humanist’s churches and no Christians are allowed.

      • aceituna

Again this shows that the atheists fear the power of God to bring about conversion. Of course they will deny this, in fact they probably really believe that this is not true, but there is a remnant of conscience within each one of us that subconsciensly tells us this is true. .

  • WealthyNot

Surely they know that all the world recognizes Dec. 25 is Anno Domino (in the year of our Lord) 2013 ! There is indeed Christian association, but it is also remembering an actual historical event recognized even by religions which do not recognized Jesus as Christ and Lord. So why is it that “atheist” groups fight so against something or Someone in which they do not believe?

    • bugchaser56

You bring up a really interesting point. Do atheists use the dating system that the rest of us? I mean if they don’t acknowledge the birth of the Lord, then what does the 2013 mean? 2013 from what? If they don’t acknowlege the Lord, then they should have their own dating system, like the Jews and muslims do. Do they celebrate Christmas or Easter secularly? How dare they? If they aren’t willling to accept Christ as Lord, then they should not celebrate Christian holidays, even if it is only being a major spending spree or having an Easter basket and rabbits, etc.

      • Taquoshi

There is an alternate system called the Common Era, often abbreviated by the initials C.E. The roots trace back to as early as 1708 in English, but earlier use can be found in Latin as “vulgaris aerae”, which always makes me laugh. Anyway, it supposedly is neutral and therefore appeals to the atheistic crowd. You can check out more about it on Wikipedia.

  • stags43

I would like to know why the Christians on this base did not protest this action. They are allowing the atheists to win this battle and it is a battle!! We have to stand up for what we believe in and it is not unconstitutional to display a nativity scene, all faiths have this right. They all can put up their display, why didn’t the jewish faith put up a minorah? The other religions could put theirs up also. Atheists put one up somewhere. It is their right, just don’t take ours down. Let them put one up. It wouldn’t bother me because I believe in my faith and the others can have theirs. Wake up people.

    • James in Texas

Simple answer, If the USAF was any more Politically Correct it would need it’s own permission to ask for permission to ask! Highest levels of leadership are nothing more than political officers, much like the USSR military once was. Failure to defend Faith is failure to defend Liberty, and none of these officers have enough courage to stand-up for their oath or Liberty!

    • bugchaser56

Usually, because Christians sit on their hands or allow these hostile groups to intimidate them. After, there is precedence on this considering O’hare and prayer, Roe vs Wade, etc. You know why is the nativity so offensive. Who told the atheists that they had to look at it. I bet you if there was some display that the muslims wanted to have displayed, no atheists would dare protest it. And the muslims worship a demon! Our God is an Awesome God, and one day these people will have to stand before Him and give an account of their actions. ‘Fraid it won’t be a happy homecoming.

      • aceituna

I repeat — they are afraid that if the Christian message is allowed to get out, some of their atheist people might see the light, repent, and become Christians. God’s message is very powerful and they feat it.

  • earlwatters

the atheists can have there seen with there mother being bang by a group of muslim men after banging a goat

    • WealthyNot

Did you intend “the atheists can have their scene with their mother…”?
)Bad spelling and/or grammar yields usually low credibility)

  • jenersea

I would hope that not one shred of any other religion is allowed to be put up on the Base there. That would be total discrimination if it were. Its just about opposing anything that is Christian based.

    • aceituna

No, only Christians are discriminated against, others may display whatever they want to. They are afraid that if we Christians are allowed to air our message that many would turn and leave the atheist camp.

  • grassroot

And the spirit on Anti-Christ is gaining ground.

  • aceituna

Hummmmm–Wonder if we should adopt England’s stance and consider atheism a religion. If so they would enjoy the same freedom of speech we do, and would not be able to deny us our freedom of speech. Then we could have a contest about which religion can put the best display up at our military bases, and let the enlisted people decide which display they wish to support.

    • woodsmanhg

I agree, adopt atheism as a religion, Congress and the high courts should do this, early 2014. I will bet, most of congress don’t have the balls to even address the issue. Maybe, if enough people got on their case, we could force them to act. I guess we must remember, they can’t get anything done, even if the people gets on their case. They only think of themselves. If they don’t adopt this, they should not get a Christmas break.

    • WealthyNot

Then the nation could celebrate their major holiday, April 1st.

      • aceituna

  • Michael Skok

In December, we celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ. We even have a Federal holiday to celebrate Christmas. But in the military, in December, it’s a violation to celebrate Christmas

  • evelyncm

Somehow I feel if they had put some sort of a muslim display it would have been left up.

  • The Watchman

Will it be possible to have a 4 inch wide yellow stripe permanently attached to the Commanding General of Shaw Air Farce Base uniforms. Of course the Air Force or was I right the first time Air Farce isn’t really military is it. Perhaps the General and his other officers are Wiccans, I understand that at Lackland Air Base in Texas they have erected an open air worship center for Wiccans, and other cultists.

  • sammy13

A lack of respect and display for the true meaning of the celebration of CHRISTmas offends me.

    Put the Nativity Scene back.

  • coconuisse

And now you know why Obama purged all those military officers and refused to allow military ministers to minister during the “sequestration”. Heaven forbid there should be someone in authority with honor, integrity and morals when Obama declares marital law and forces the citizentry to obey his whims using the military as his palace guard. That wouldn’t do, now would it?

  • cmjay

These BIGOTS must travel from place to place looking for any kind of CHRISTIAN SYMBOL They must be so thrilled for there are lots of this around this CHRISTMAS – and the one who finds the most probably gets an award. They are the most PATHETIC and low life members of the SUBHUMAN SPECIES .

  • cmjay

ATHEISTS should be MANDATED to work on CHRISTMAS DAY with regular pay or have a day off without pay. They should not have the BENEFITS of the HOLIDAY that they abhor.
