I would not expect anyone to know whether I was a Christian or not because they cannot see my heart nor the work of God upon it. However, if they were well enough acquainted with me, and knew how I lived my life now compared to how I lived it before I was saved, and what my current beliefs about the Bible are, they would see evidence that would indicate it was likely I was a Christian.

However, if they examined my life, and found that I regularly viewed pornography online, frequently took God's name in vain, thought abortion and homosexuality was acceptable, cheated on my wife, was a habitual shoplifter, thought that the Bible was only partly true, etc., for example, then they would have serious reason to doubt that I really was a Christian despite my claims to be one.

Now, don't get me wrong. Someone who has just become saved and did any or all of the things mentioned above, would not necessarily eliminate those actions immediately upon becoming saved. There is a process of sanctification that occurs over time once someone becomes saved, and some sinful habits are difficult to get rid of if the person has been accustomed to do them.

So we have to also look at how long ago their conversion experience was for someone who claims to be born again before we can draw any conclusions as to whether they are saved or not, and even then we cannot ever know for certain. That is between themselves and God. I might be surprised by who does or does not show up in heaven based on incomplete knowledge of their life and the same inability to see the work of God in their heart. Perhaps I will even see you there in time, Jeff.
