Christian missionaries will be international observers in Sudan’s referendum, slated to start this Sunday and end on Jan. 15.

Christianity Today reported that a World Evangelical Alliance team will work with other Christian groups and the Sudan Council of Churches to monitor proceedings and help promote peaceful, honest polls.

Geoff Tunnicliffe, WEA secretary general told Christianity Today that a team of evangelicals is being formed to be present in several polling locations during the referendum. Anglican bishop Joseph Garang Atem Zorial of Renk welcomed this saying, “We want the global church standing with us.”
