Public broadcaster DR has committed itself to fostering “Christian cultural heritage” in a new public service contract the broadcaster signed with the Culture Ministry and other partners last week, reports Information newspaper.

In the previous contract from 2007, the broadcaster promised to foster “Danish cultural heritage,” in its programming. The focus on Christian heritage is a new addition.

The new commitment has met with sharp criticism from a range of opinion leaders, who voiced concern over the appropriateness of the publicly funded broadcaster affiliating itself with a specific religion.
