The federal government is targeting a Reno man already under fire for his handling of a Haiti home-building project, saying he violated the terms of a $500,000 grant that his former business received and must return the funds, a Reno Gazette-Journal investigation has found.

Federal officials say Mike Stickler, who was owner of Faith Based Solutions, was awarded the money in 2007-08 as part of a three-year, $1.5 million grant, but spent the money too quickly and didn’t provide proper documentation of his expenses.

During that same time, his creditors were hounding him for not paying his bills, state and federal government officials were after him for failing to pay taxes, and his employees were leaving because he wasn’t paying their salaries or was bouncing payroll checks, the RGJ investigation found.
