When he was down and out, evangelicals gave Raymond Brockett a hand up.
Brockett wants his ministry to do the same for Vallejo, starting with the women’s recovery home he’s opening.
“We need to start our ministry right here in Vallejo,” Brockett said. “It’s not a killing field like Oakland. It’s not as bad as Richmond. But if a ton of help doesn’t come in right away it can get that way.”
Brockett and his wife Jeannie, both of Windsor, recently founded the Encouraging Lives Outreach Recovery Home at 468 La Jolla Ave. Their three-bedroom rental home soon will provide a Christian faith-based, temporary shelter for women who want to get into recovery for drug and alcohol abuse.
As they spread the word, Brockett said he could use a hand from local residents making the home feel like home. Donations of bunk beds, dressers, lamps, kitchen utensils and other household items are being sought, he said.Continue Reading on www.contracostatimes.com
